"I'm so glad you came!! I really needed someone to come here since Aidan won't let me lay a hand on Noelle," The words felt harsher than they actually were. "Anyways, you can put your stuff over there with everyone else's. You're staying in a room with me since we are both alone," The cabin they were staying at was pretty large and pricey, expected from people who went to private school.
But Carly would've never agreed to come if it weren't for Noelle. Noelle's face still left a mark on Carly and she couldn't get her out of her head. So this weekend, Carly made it her goal to get to the bottom of what was going on between Noelle and Aidan. They weren't the PDA type couple so it was hard to tell what kind of relationship they had. If Aidan forced Noelle to lie for him, they could be so in love that they don't want their soulmates to get hurt. But if that was the case then they should be each other's soulmates. A glitch in the system maybe. Or maybe it would come crashing down. For whatever reason, something didn't feel right.
"I heard that Sadie's parents own the whole lodge, so they rented the whole thing out for the weekend," Carly pretended to care as she normally would and answered with simple nods. "She also mentioned that we get the whole lounge to ourselves tonight, you know what that means?" Breanne turned to Carly who wasn't really paying attention.
"Haha, yeah," She replied, hoping the response matched with what Breanne was talking about.
Breanne looked at her with confusion, "You do?" Carly stuttered nervously and was lost for what to say "Anyway, a party, we're having a party tonight at the lounge. There's about 12 of us so it'll be more of a hangout but I think it'll be fun. Plus, you can get to know Noelle."
Carly whipped her head around to Breanne in confusion and shock. Was she physic??
"You know, since I'm friends with both of you, you guys should get to know each other a little more so that we can all be friends!" Breanne ended off with a smile and ran up to the other group with Noelle.
Carly stood behind Breanne most of the time and stayed on her phone. Every so often she would glance at Noelle and Aidan together. They had no emotion toward each other what so ever. Aidan would talk and laugh his mouth off while Noelle stood by him, like an accessory and say nothing at all. It gave Carly the chills.
Carly planned on staying in the room during the "party", but of course, Breanne dragged her. The sudden obsession with Carly was strange. Breanne was popular, social and unproblematic. She already had friends so why give Carly the time of day when Carly didn't even go up to her? Breanne was known for being nice but this seemed like a step to far. Perhaps she knew something about Carly that Carly didn't know about herself.
They were all relaxing in respected spots of the room, most of the group sitting in chairs and couches. Some people were off in the distance of the room talking to each other and looking at each others soulmate names. One guy lifted his shirt to show his on the side of his hip. And the girl he was talking to reached out to touch it and they joked about being each other's soulmates. It was pretty obvious where they were going to end up at the end of the night.
Carly was seated next to Breanne who was sitting in the couch directly opposite of Noelle and Aidan. There were some other people gathered around but Carly only really knew the names of the three. They were chatting amongst theme selves and drinking. Aidan talked about Noelle and how she was in bed. Breanne and Carly were visibly uncomfortable. Noelle, had no emotion, once again. Almost as if she was used to it.
"She's not so quiet after a night with me. That's for sure," The others laughed and he wrapped his arm around Noelle and pulled her in aggressively.
"Ow," She said, softly. He turned to her, surprised she even said anything.
"Oh shut up," He joked off and she gave him a guilty look. He just stared at her.
"Take a joke for once god, you look like a sad puppy," He and Noelle laughed and they continued to joke and talk. Carly hadn't seen this side of them. That was clearly disrespectful and rude of him, so why did Carly just sit there and take it. It made no sense. All Carly knew was that she had enough. This was too uncomfortable to watch, especially after knowing all of it was just a lie.
"I'm pretty tired so I think I'm gonna head to bed," Carly said getting up. She looked visibly different than everyone else. She was dressed in a comfy sweater-sweatpants combo with socks and slides. She rarely wore anything else other than her school uniform. So she was basically already in the sleeping mode.
"Lame!" Aidan yelled and laughed as Carly walked away to the upstairs. Aidan always had that sort of class clown wannabe vibe to him. But now, it was really starting to get on Carly's nerves. He barely even knew Carly and was already crossing off everything that annoys the shit out of Carly. Another thing that bothered her was the way he was treating Noelle. Like an object rather than a person or soulmate. Even if they weren't soulmates, they could at least act like it to prove be more convincing. But I guess nobody else really questioned it. Who would lie about their soulmate.
Carly lazily opened the door to the room and kicked off her shoes. She was so ready to go to bed. After hanging around people for way past her limit, she was exhausted. She hopped into the shower and got ready to go to sleep.
She looked at herself in the mirror. She slipped off the shoulder of her sweater to reveal the words. Noelle Morrison. She almost forgot they were there. The reason she was on the trip. How could she forget the soul purpose of anyone's existence. She traced over every loop and curl. Grazing her finger over the vastness of all the letters together, forming as one. They were consistent and small. But the words didn't mean as much as they should've. As much as she wanted them too. It left a small hole in Carly's heart and she tried hard to ignore it.
Carly was startled by a knock on the door. She assumed it was Breanne so she went to go open it for her.
But right as she looked up from opening the door, her eyes met with the same familiar eyes and her nose met the same familiar smell of honey. Noelle grabbed a hold of Carly's shoulder and backed her into the wall next to the door. Noelle kicked the door closed and switched it to locked. Carly was confused and her heart was beating 10x faster than usual. Was Noelle about to beat her up? Why was she being so aggressive? And why was she-
Carly's thoughts were interrupted by Noelle pushing her harder into the wall and kissing her. She slid her hands from Carly's shoulder to her hair. Carly's eyes were wide open and panicking.
"Noelle what are you-" Carly was interrupted by another aggressive kiss being pushed into her lips.
"Just shut up and kiss me," They continued to kiss and Carly almost gave all the way in. She wanted to stay to her original plan, to just find out what was happening and leave it at that. Not get any attachments or loose threads along the way. But the touch of Noelle's lips brushing against hers and her hands ringing through her hair and the sense of excitement and adrenalin pumping through her blood, it was all enough to let Carly fall in deep and forget everything. But she had to stay strong, this wasn't going to solve anything.
Carly took grab of Noelle's waist and spun her around so that Noelle was on the wall. She put both her hands on both sides of Noelle's head and looked down, pushing all her weight into the wall. She was gasping for air and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.
"What... T-the... hell," She had to catch her breath again. "What the hell was that, Noelle? What on earth is going on? What about Aidan? What about you asking me to stay away? What about you sitting there and taking every insult from him and not doing anything about it? He doesn't seem like someone worth lying for if you ask me so please tell what the fuck is going on between you guys-"
Carly was interrupted with quiet, soft sobs. Noelle was crying, her face distraught and upset. Her voice as quiet as a whisper "Carly, I'm asking you because you're my soulmate and I'm yours! Please,
help me!"
Authors note <3
FINALLY, sorry if this is to fast pace for you, everything leading to their relationship isn't as important as the relationship itself.
