The rest of the trip was pretty normal. Noelle and Carly pretended that nothing had happened and Aidan was too drunk to even remember Noelle went missing. From what Breanne said, Aidan and Noelle had a tiff so she got up and left, nobody knows where she went though. And Carly told Breanne that she "accidentally" locked the room door and kept the key inside so Breanne just bunked with another girl. She didn't ask about Noelle or about her clothes that were clearly on the floor when she came in the next morning. Or how Noelle was wearing Carly's clothes that next morning when they all came down for breakfast.
Carly could still remember Noelle's warmth and radiation from that night. How they all of a sudden felt like the only people in the world who existed. Maybe that's why they were soulmates. Because of the way they felt together. Maybe Carly was the only one who could save Noelle. But that was stupid, there were so many people at school who were stronger and people who could protect Noelle to the days end.
Carly still remembered the kiss. It was such a weird first kiss. She already knew it wasn't Noelle's first. That Noelle probably kissed and did other stuff with Aidan already. It grossed her out even thinking about it. She felt pretty lame compared to Noelle, even if Noelle's first kiss was an asshole, at least she had done it. Carly wondered if her and Noelle would ever do that stuff. She didn't even know if she wanted to yet. She had barely even knew Noelle, not in a way that could get you turned on at the least. She was really hot and cute but, the only images Carly could see were her crying and faking her emotions. She never saw her genuinely smile once and it hurt her inside.
Perhaps this is how she was suppose to save her. Make her smile, real smiles.
On the way home, Carly rode with her sister who came all the way to pick her up. She said goodbye to Breanne and not to the others, she had to pretend she basically didn't even know Noelle. She didn't want to risk a single thing with Aidan, she still had no idea what their relationship is like, even after that whole weekend. All she knew was that it was anything but love, there was something truly twisted going on with the two of them and Aidan was the center of it.
"What're you thinking about?" Rowan asked Carly, who was deep in thought.
"Nothing, just soulmate stuff," Carly said, turning her head in the passenger seat. Carly thought of the next time she was going to see Noelle, is it school? Is it Carly's house... Is it, Noelle's house?
"Oh right, you still haven't showed me the tattoo, c'mon I know you have it and you can see it because other-wise you wouldn't care about soulmate stuff," Read her like a book. Carly was a little taken a back by this but her sister was her only friend and her sister also happened to like girls so it wasn't a disaster of an idea.
Carly slipped away her sweater, sliding it off her left shoulder and showing her sister. "Is that a girls name!?" her sister asked in shock and amazement.
"Yeah, but she's basically playing pretend soulmates with a jackass," Carly said, staring off in the window and putting her sweater back on fully.
"High school, it sucks but after it's all over, you can live with your soulmate and get married and spend every breathing moment together. You have to cherish the time you have with them now," Rowan said, in her mom voice. Of course she'd say that, she didn't get to spend her after high school years with her soulmate like she wanted. She barely got any time with them.
"Sounds exhausting," Carly joked. Carly also had sort of a dark sense of humor, her jokes only being funny to her or just being straight out sarcasm. Nobody except her sister really knew if she was joking or not.
Coming back to school felt abnormal for Carly. Knowing everything she did, even if it wasn't enough, it scared her a little. Watching everyone crowd around the couple like they were saints or something. But Carly felt somewhat special knowing that she of all people knew that they weren't in fact soulmates and their whole relationship was a lie.
Carly was sitting in English, with her desk being closest to the windows, she looked outside. She looked down onto the field that lay outside. She wanted to see Noelle, and she wanted to see her instantly. The sooner, the better. Carly had this weird feeling like she was supposed to protect Noelle. Like a child almost. Except Carly wanted to be alone with Noelle, have Noelle all to her self with nobody around. She hadn't understood how truly difficult it was until she got up to ask.
"Noelle, can we talk?" Carly asked once class had finally ended. Aidan didn't have English with Noelle so it was finally safe to ask.
Noelle, surprised, turned around to Carly and just stared at her with an almost sad expression. Her expression soon turned but it was weird, she wasn't sad, mad, or happy. Noelle looked around the room as people left. It was the end of the day so Carly had to wait a while to ask this. Noelle looked at the teacher and then Carly. "Hey, is it okay if I do some extra tutoring for Carly in here, she doesn't quite understand what we are doing."
The teacher who was finishing packing up her stuff looked at the two girls, especially Carly, who was failing the class. "Yeah, sure, you can whenever you want. Carly's going to need it."
Carly rolled her eyes at the teacher's awful way of saying Carly was completely flopping all her classes. Noelle nodded and the teacher left the room with all her stuff and shut the door behind her.
"Well, I do kind of need help on my English project for this class so it isn't such a bad idea I guess-" Carly was interrupted with a sloppy yet full-hearted, passionate kiss coming from Noelle. Noelle was gripping the collar of Carly's shirt. Noelle kept pressing her lips into Carly making it unable for Carly to breathe. This was so sudden, what the hell was Noelle thinking about all day?
Noelle kept kissing Carly and started to slip her hand up Carly's skirt. Carly was so close to running out of oxygen and it wasn't like she didn't want to do it. She just didn't think it was a good time for it.
Carly pushed Noelle off of her as soon as she got her chance and started gasping for air. "Noelle! You can't just-" Carly had to gasp for air before speaking again. "You can't just do things like that all of a sud- sudden," When Carly finished talking she let out a small cough.
Noelle groaned out loud and dropped her head onto Carly's shoulder. And then groaned again, louder. "This is so irritating. I'm sorry," Noelle's head didn't leave Carly's shoulder and stayed where it was. "I just... I've wanted to see you ALL day. And I couldn't help myself," Noelle was a head shorter than Carly. With the top of Noelle's head reaching just under Carly's chin. It was almost perfect. But non-the-less, when Noelle tried resting her head on Carly's shoulder, she ended up just reaching her arm and resting it their instead.
Carly wrapped her arms around Noelle and pulled her close by. Noelle's hands gripped on Carly's brown blazer on her uniform. She pulled her as close as possible and nuzzled her face into Carly's arm. Carly had so much she wanted to say to Noelle. But in that moment, she decided it was okay to wait, it was okay to put everything on hold and just stay like this.
"Do you want to go on date this weekend?" Carly whispered to Noelle, now running her hands through the short length of Noelle's hair. "We could go anywhere," She said, optimistically smiling. Noelle nodded, just the idea of being with Carly made her happy. Carly was almost positive she put a real smile on Noelle's face, but she couldn't even see it. Before Carly tried to sneak a peek at Noelle's face, she could feel drops of water fall onto her arm. Noelle was crying, and Carly didn't feel as accomplished as she wanted to anymore. No matter what, Carly was going to save Noelle from her indefinable hell that she was going through. And that was a promise to Noelle and herself.
Authors note <3
Ahhh, this chapter makes my heart all gwahh. I really love how these two are set up and fit together (: They have lots of cute moments like this coming up so keep reading.
This is a completed story of course, none of my stories are incomplete. I finish my stories and then complete them. Although, as I'm writing this, I've never finished writing a story. Hopefully this becomes my first.
Also, the uniforms in the picture above are what the girls uniforms look like since they go to a uniform school.
