As the scene unfolded before Evelyn, a surge of protectiveness washed over her. She couldn't bear to see Beatrix treating the children so harshly. Stepping forward, she firmly stated, "They need to be treated. They look hurt." Beatrix, however, remained unmoved, her anger palpable as she glared at the two scared kids, causing their fear to deepen.

The little girl began to cry, her wails piercing the chaos of the emergency room. Evelyn's heart ached at the sight, and she couldn't stand by any longer. Just as Beatrix raised her hand to strike the child, Evelyn rushed forward, grabbing Beatrix's arm and pushing her back. "You can't do this!" she exclaimed, calling for security to intervene.

As security took Beatrix aside, she struggled against their grip, shouting, "Let me go! I have the right to discipline them!" The two children, shivering with fear, felt a flicker of safety as Beatrix was removed from their sight.

Evelyn knelt down to their level, her voice soft and reassuring. "It's okay now. You're safe here," she said gently. "We need to admit you both to check if you're hurt. You'll be safe inside, away from her."

As Naomi approached to help, the little boy wrapped his arms tightly around his sister, unwilling to let go. "Wanna stay with you!" he cried in a tiny voice, his eyes wide with fear. Evelyn felt her heart shatter at his plea, the innocence in his voice tugging at her soul.

Just then, Nurse Lillian rushed in, urgency in her tone. "Evelyn, we have a patient in cardiac arrest! We need you in the ER right away!"

Caught between her duty and the children, Evelyn glanced at Naomi, who returned a questioning look. She crouched down, looking the boy in the eyes. "Naomi is my friend. You can trust her, and she will keep you safe. I promise I'll be back as soon as I can. We're all doctors here to take care of you and your sister."

With a heavy heart, Evelyn had no time to hear the boy's words as she rushed to the ER, leaving him with a half-finished sentence hanging in the air.

Once Evelyn departed, the boy turned to Naomi, his expression still anxious. As the nurses carefully lifted them both, he clung to his sister, hoping she would remain close. They were taken to a room designed for proper check-ups, the warmth of Evelyn's promise still lingering in the air, even as uncertainty filled the small space.

In the examination room, Naomi began assessing Elara and Cassian. "You both did such a great job staying brave," she said, trying to ease their anxiety. Cassian looked up at her with wide eyes, his voice trembling. "Sister... hurt?"

"Yes, sweetheart, but we're going to help her," Naomi reassured him. "You're both going to be okay. Can you tell me who hurt you?"

Cassian's gaze dropped to the floor, the weight of fear making it hard for him to respond. Elara looked up at her brother, a small whimper escaping her lips. "No... don't... don't say," she murmured, her tiny voice breaking.

Naomi's heart sank at their obvious distress. "You don't have to tell me right now. Just know that you're safe here, and we're going to make sure you're both taken care of."

As they prepared for the check-up, Naomi felt a rush of compassion for the frightened siblings. She glanced at the door, hoping Evelyn would return soon. The hospital's chaotic atmosphere felt distant compared to the tender moment shared between the three of them, as Naomi worked to ensure that Elara and Cassian felt secure in a world that had shown them too much fear.

Meanwhile, in the ER, Evelyn fought against the rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins. The sounds of machines beeping and the frantic commands of her colleagues filled the air, but her mind kept drifting back to the children. She had to get back to them. She hoped they were safe, even if it was just for a few moments without Beatrix looming over them.

As she worked tirelessly on her patient, Evelyn couldn't shake the feeling that the twins' plight was just beginning, and she was determined to protect them.
