*** Hi, this is a message from your author- This chapter is a long one, so I would get a snack if I were you. (this will be your only warning) ◑﹏◐. Also, get ready for some emotional damage***
"Get over here and help me with this, Chifuyu! Come on! We can stop Baji together, Chifuyu!" Takemichi yelled.
"It's no use. I can't do it," Chifuyu said with sorrow.
"Huh?!" Takemichi blurted out in disbelief.
"I just can't hit Baji," Chifuyu said with tears running down his cheek.
"SUCK IT UP, CHIFUYU!" I yelled so he could hear me. Even though I couldn't hear a thing they were saying, I could tell he was freezing up.
"I can't do it! I can't hit him!" Chifuyu yelled, not facing me.
So that's what it is. "I don't want you hurting him either! BUT THIS IS FOR BAJI, NOT FOR YOU OR ME! WE NEED TO BRING HIM BACK TO TOMAN! SO SUCK IT UP AND PUNCH HIM TILL HE HAS SOME COMMON SENSE, GODDAMN IT!"
"Get off me!" Baji said, elbowing Takemichi in the back of the neck, causing him to loosen his grip but then quickly regain his strength. Or so it seemed to me.
I see Takemichi let go of Baji suddenly and look around frantically. What or who was Takemichi so desperately looking for?
I look back and see Baji's eyes go wide.
"Now die, Baji!" Kazutora said.
I hear Takemichi screaming and shoving Kazutora.
And that's when I saw it—the blood. My body grows cold, seeing Baji drop to the ground and pick himself up.
"BAJI!"
"It's just a scratch," Baji said to me.
"We still need to get you to a doctor!" I said, slowly making my way toward him.
"Y/N!" Kisaki yelled.
I turned to him, "I don't care about your stupid plans or if Mikey kicks me out! BAJI IS HURT; THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME!"
"KAZUTORAAAAA! WHAT THE HELL! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING STABBING BAJI, YOU IDIOT!" Chifuyu yelled.
"It's him. It's all Baji's own fault," Kazutora said.
I could care less about Kazutora. The fact that Baji was up and moving and alive made me happy. I just want to keep him safe and take him to a hospital. I was almost close enough to Baji to touch him. I just wanted to hug him and thank the heavens he was ok, but I also wanted to slap him and tell him not to scare me like that again.
"IS HE OK?!" Chifuyu yelled. His voice crack didn't disguise his worry for Baji.
"He said he is!" I yelled back to Chifuyu.
"It's a damn good thing you're alive," Takemichi said.
"Huh? What are you talking about," Baji questioned. "I'm gonna kill Kisaki! So stay out of my way, all of you!"
"Don't be stupid! You're injured; we're going to a hospital now!" I wanted to grab him and shake the stupidity out of his body. But I didn't want to touch him. I was scared if I grabbed him, I would hurt him. A stupid thought, but that didn't make the fear go away.
"I don't need your concern or your help," Baji said, pushing me aside. I slipped on the uneven cars and fell.
What is up with him? Why is he acting like this?
"Y/N!" Takemichi said, grabbing my arm to help me up.
I swung my arm away, "I'm fine," but my tone said otherwise.
"I'm going to take Kisaki down," Takemichi said in a low whisper for only him to hear, but Baji, Chifuyu, and I heard it.
"Tsk, so you want Kisaki too, huh?" Baji said.
"Yeah, so why don't we work together to fight him," Takemichi said.
Baji gave Takemichi and Chifuyu a punch in the face.
"Stay out of my way," Baji spoke.
"Let us help you! Baji, there's no reason why you should do this alone!" Takemichi pleaded.
Baji looked at Takemichi menacingly.
"Baji don't," Chifuyu said.
Baji walked passed all three of us, climbing the car pile, and lowly said, "take care of Mikey and Y/N for me."
"What are you talking about, Baji. You're acting like you're gonna die or something," I said with an uncomfortable chuckle. But he didn't answer me; he just kept on climbing.
"Why are you in such a hurry to die, my captain," Chufuyu whispered low enough that I couldn't hear.
"50 members of the first division vs. me," Baji said, tying his hair up. "Bring it on, you bastards."
"He not serious, is he?" I asked Chifuyu. Chifuyu just avoided my gaze.
"Ha, well, sorry, but I can no longer be a part of Toman. I'M GIVING MY RESIGNATION HERE AND NOW! YOU HEARD THAT, KISAKI!" I said, yelling all the anger I had in my body.
"What are you doing, Y/N!" Chifuyu said.
"If Baji thinks he can get rid of me by dying, I'll just not let him die." I pick up a steel metal pole off the ground and rush towards Baji to help.
I don't know what the hell I'm doing. But I know where my loyalties lies, and that's with Baji. He tells me to jump, and I say how high. He's earned my respect, so I'm going to return the favor.
I rush into the fight without a second thought. Baji smashes the windshields spreading glass everywhere. When everyone what too busy worrying about the glass, Baji swung at all of them, and I followed. I managed to shield my eyes in time, but I still got some cuts from the flying glass.
"What the hell are you doing, Y/n!" Baji said to me, not breaking his concentration.
"When did you think you were alone in this? Baji, where you go, I go, and whoever you hate, I hate; that's how it's always been. So what makes today any different?"
Baji chuckled "try not to die."
"Wasn't planning on it," I replied. "Baji, you go on ahead and take care of Kisaki. I'll hold these guys back for you."
"Alright then, if you say so."
"And Baji, I have a request."
"What is it, Y/N?"
"Don't die, Ok?"
"HA, the only person that can kill me is me so that I won't be dying anytime soon."
That's good, I thought with a smile. Even if he's lying, I feel a sort of comfort in his words.
I fought the best I ever did right then and there. I had one objective and one objective alone: Get these people to say away from Baji. And I would do that even if I had no more energy left. They grouped up to try to take me down, but because they fought with only brute force and they had never fought someone with my specific fighting skill, it was a walk in the park. However, the uneven flooring made it a little difficult to reach my full potential and keep up my pace. Finally, when I was done fighting the leftover people, I looked up to see where Baji was. He'd reach Kisaki, a sharp metal pole in hand, aiming it at Kisaki's throat.
"Looks like that's checkmate. You're done," Baji said.
"Just try it, then you don't have the guts," Kisaki responded.
Just when I thought Baji was going to kill Kisaki or do something, he just... stopped.
"What's wrong, Keisuke?" I said.
That's when I saw it again - the blood spilling from Baji's mouth.
"What the hell?.... I'm, I'm done, I guess," Baji said.
"Kei... suke?" My mouth quivered.
Baji fell down to his knees, coughing up more and more blood until his body couldn't carry his weight anymore and fell.
"BAJI, NO!" Chifuyu ran towards his best friend. "KISAKI, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO BAJI!"
Why can't I move? My body just won't let me. I see Baji lying down! He needs me! WHY CAN'T I MOVE OR BREATHE! Baji is fine, so why do I feel my chest being ripped apart. It hurts. This pain is indescribable. It reminds me of that day but THIS ISN'T THE SAME! BAJI ISN'T DEAD!
"BAJI!" Chifuyu said.
My heart starts pounding. It's so loud I can't hear anything else, not even my breathing. Wait... am I breathing.
"BAJI CAN YOU HEAR ME BAJI?!" Someone said.
"BAJI!"
"BAJI!"
"BAJI!"
I could hear Chifuyu screaming, and that was when all my senses came back. I finally caught my breath. I fell to my knees and started coughing from the lack of oxygen in my lungs.
"CALL AN AMBULANCE!" Mitsuya said.
"B- Baji?" I said, slowly making my way to him, tripping over my feet from my unawareness.
"Kazutora, KAZUTORA!" Chifuyu yelled.
"Kazutora definitely has some screws loose. Oh, I get it; he must have brought Baji to Valhalla to finish him off himself. That right, commander." Kisaki said, referring to Mikey, that was standing up behind him.
"I wanted to kill you even back then as soon as you had been let out of juvie. I started thinking about killing you, and the one who always kept talking me out of it was Baji. He always said that all you wanted to do was make me happy, which is why you couldn't accept the blame. Even though you were the one who killed my brother. In order for things to make sense to you, you had to make me into the enemy. Isn't that right?" Mikey said with an emotionless face. "You know, Kenny; this fight's already over."
"Huh? Woah, Woah, Woah, hold up. What do you mean the fight's over? Where the hell do you think we are, Mikey? You're crazy if you think you get to decide shit like that now. Hahaha-" With one of Mikey's famous kicks, it shut Hanma right up.
"There then, now it's over," Mikey said.
Half of Valhalla ran away after that while Mikey stood over Kazutora.
"Betrayal is human nature, I guess. Alright, then, Mikey, let's end this. Either you're gonna die, or I'm gonna die today-"
Mikey shut Kazutora up with a punch. I turned back to Baji. I kneeled next to him.
"Baji... please tell me you're ok," I said. I grabbed his arm to confirm if he was really... dead. "Huh," when I checked his arm, he still had a pulse. I frantically put my finger horizontally below his nose to check his breathing, and he was still breathing! I try to pick him up, but DAM, HE'S HEAVIER THAN I REMEMBER!
"Y/N, what are you doing!" Chifuyu said with a shocked face.
"Chifuyu, help me get Baji to a hospital! He's still breathing," I said, pleading with him.
"O-ok," He said, helping me pick up Baji. "Shit, Mikey."
I take my eyes off Baji to look at Mikey to see what Chifuyu was talking about. Shit was right. Mikey was ruthless with Kazutora. I was torn on how to feel. He did hurt Baji, and I won't forgive him for that, but Baji isn't dead. On the other hand, he is Baji's friend, and Baji even advocated for him, so they must be close. I kind of feel bad for the guy, but right now, Baji is my first and only priority. Suddenly, I feel the weight of Baji's body gets heavier.
"Shit!" I looked at Chifuyu, and he had slipped. "Careful!"
"Sorry," Chifuyu said in embarrassment.
That was kind of mean of me. "Uh, you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," he replied.
That small conversation made me forget the reality of the situation; it made me feel normal for once.
"Mikey." A low, groaning voice said.
"BAJI!" Both me and Chifuyu yelled.
Baji was trying to push Chifuyu and me away.
"Hey, Baji, careful! You're still injured," I said
"I need to get to Mikey," Baji said.
"We'll help you. Just calm down, Baji-san," Chifuyu said.
"No," Baji replied. "MIKEY!"
Baji's sudden voice made Mikey stop beating Kazutora. Baji's scream also caused him to cough up blood which made me go stiff. Even though we couldn't see Kazutora, the blood on the ground was enough to tell us he wasn't ok.
"You got really mad all because of me," Baji said to Mikey with a smile. "Thanks for that."
I knew Baji was in pain, though.
"Hey, stop moving around so much, Baji!" Chifuyu said with concern.
"He's right. You shouldn't-" before I could finish, Baji pushed Chifuyu and me aside gently as he made his way towards Mikey, who thought Baji was dead.
"Baji..." Mikey said, not believing what he was seeing.
And he wasn't the only one; everyone in Toman was stunned to see him alive and walking.
"I won't.. die," Baji said, walking passed Mikey, "This is nowhere near enough to kill me," he shouted, standing over Kazutora's body.
"There's no way. That is definitely a mortal wound," Takemichi pointed out.
"Don't worry about it, Kazutora," Baji said with a smile.
Baji then took out a switchblade. "I swear that I won't... DIE AT YOUR HANDS!" Baji then lifted up the blade over his head and plunged it down deep into his stomach. Baji tried to hide the pain of the knife lodged in his stomach with a smile on his face.
BAJI! I yelled, but nothing came out. Not even air could come out. I ran to him as fast as I could. I thought if only I could get there, I could save him; it wasn't too late. He's fine. Everything will be fine. I caught his falling body and rested it on the floor gently. I could hear Chifuyu screaming and running behind me.
"CHIFUYU, HOLD HIM UP SO I CAN PUT A TOURNIQUET!"
Chifuyu was too shocked to do anything; he just stood there. So did everyone else—useless all of them.
"CHIFUYU!" HE'S STILL NOT DOING ANYTHING. "FINE, I'LL DO IT MYSELF!"
I lifted Baji's body and leaned it against mine so I could wrap my jacket around the wound to try and stop the bleeding. As soon as I did that, Baji let out a small scream from the pain as tears ran down his face.
Chifuyu grabbed my shoulder, pushing me back and holding Baji in his arms, "STOP YOU'RE HURTING HIM!" Chifuyu yelled.
"SHUT THE HELL UP. I'M HELPING HIM!" I was a completely different person at this point. I was angry and violent and desperate. "DID SOMEONE ALREADY CALL AN AMBULANCE!" Everyone was still silent. "ANSWER!" I yelled in frustration.
"Yeah, we- we called one as soon as Baji-" Mitsuya couldn't finish his sentence.
"But why Baji, why would you," Chifuyu said, crying.
"STOP CRYING, CHIFUYU! BAJI IS GOING TO BE FINE!" I yelled.
"Y/n..." Takemichi reaches out his hand to comfort me.
I swat Takemichi's hand. "NO, BAJI IS FINE!" I said, placing my hands on my head to help me breathe. I bent down to Baji and sat next to Chifuyu. All I can do is wait till the Ambulance comes.
"Can't be... No way. Baji, no," Takemichi said in between tears. "Why I don't get it. I mean, why the hell would you ever want to stab yourself!"
"Come here, Takemichi," Baji said with a whisper. "Come on.. Come.. Closer." Takemichi kneeled down. "Listen, Takemichi, Kisaki is the enemy. After the fight with Moebius. You know, after Pah stabbed Osanai. Kisaki asked Mikey if he could be the third division's captain in exchange for getting Pah out of jail." Baji took deep breaths in between because it has hard for him to breathe.
"Ba..ji.. Please save your breath help will be here soon," I pleaded with tears falling from my face.
"Takemichi needs to know. I saw it for myself. Kisaki brought the deal to Mikey. The third division's captain isn't Kisaki... Toman was created by the six of us. No matter what happens from here on out, the third division's captain is Pah and only Pah," Baji said with tears in his eyes.
"Baji... don't," Chifuyu said.
"Pah... Mitsuya, Draken, Mikey, Kazutora. All of them are my true treasures. I wanted to figure something out... but I guess I couldn't. And so I died by my own hand." Baji said.
"DON'T SAY STUFF LIKE THAT! YOU'RE GOING TO BE FINE!" I yelled, holding Baji's hand.
"Now Mikey has no reason to kill Kazutora," Baji stated.
A long pause was shared. Whether that be from sorrow or defeat, all the same, the weight of the silence was crushing.
"Guess it's about time; I'm starting to hallucinate shit now. Takemichi, you know, in some ways, you're a lot like Shinichiro. So Mikey, Toman, and... Y/N, I'm leaving them to you." Baji requested.
"No, no way, Baji. Don't say that kind of stuff. You can't die," Takemichi said.
"Y/N, don't cry," Baji said with a smile, placing his hand on my cheek and wiping my tears.
"We still need to celebrate our birthdays," I said, trying to find any excuse for him to stay with me a little longer. "There is still so much I need to tell you, and- and so much we to do together," I said, crying in between my sentences.
"You can always talk to me when you're not feeling your best that won't change."
"Please, Baji... stay with me just a bit longer," I said, holding his hand tighter and lowing my head so he couldn't see the pain in my eyes.
"Ha, it takes me being at my death bed for you actually to use my name; how comical... Take care of yourself, Y/N; keep learning and growing. I hope you can truly be happy one day."
"Chifuyu," Baji whispered.
"Yes, sir," Chifuyu responded.
"I could really go for some Payang Yakisoba about now."
"I- I'll go buy some."
"Let's go split it, 'kay?" Baji smiled, "Thanks so much, Chifuyu."
"Baji?" Chifuyu questioned.
Quiet sobs could be heard around me. I didn't want to look up; I couldn't. If I met with reality in front of me, I don't think I could ever come back from it. I kept telling myself Baji was ok but, but deep down, I knew the reality, and it was unfathomable.
"BAJI NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Chifuyu cried out in sadness.
"He's fine. Baji's just fine. He's ok." I repeated to myself over and over again.
"Y/N..." Takemichi said, concerned.
"I always knew you wouldn't betray us," Chifuyu said. "Baji was out there fighting on his own. I knew it right from the start. I knew it, but I COULDN'T PROTECT HIM! I COULDN'T SAVE HIM!
"He's fine. Baji's just fine. He's ok. He's fine. Baji's just fine. He's ok. He's fine. Baji's just fine. He's ok. He's fine. Baji's just fine. He's ok. He's fine. Baji's just fine. He's ok.
