It's been a couple of days since August third, and Draken healed well. I dropped by a couple of days after meeting Mikey outside the hospital. I didn't think it was the right moment to ask Mikey that day about Draken since he seemed so distraught. So I came back a couple of days later and asked the nurses if a patient named Ken Ryuguji was ok. They told me that they could not give me that information, but like always, I paid them off, and they told me he was fine. I also paid for his medical bill but asked them to say it was an anonymous donation. I don't want him thinking I did it out of personal gain or that I wanted something from him.

I got a bunch of text messages from Baji after the big fight ranging from 'what the hell happened to 'hey, I saw that you were hurt. Are you ok' to 'CAN YOU RESPOND SO I KNOW YOU'RE NOT DEAD?' I finally decided that today I was ready to tell Baji everything. No more secrets. I sent him a quick message.

Y/N

Hey, I'm coming over.                                                                                      (Opened at 10:30 pm)

Firecracker (aka Baji)

HUH?

Where were you?! I passed by your place a bunch of times, but you were never there?

HELLO?!?!                                                                                                             (Opened at 10:35 pm)

When I reached his place, I took the stairs up to his apartment. Once I reached his floor, I jumped on his balcony; I didn't want to wake his mom by knocking on the front door since it was pretty late. I looked down from the balcony ledge that I was standing on.

"Wow, that's higher than I remembered."

I hear the sliding door open.

"GET DOWN FROM THERE!" Baji yelled, pulling me down. It was quite funny seeing him act like a parent.

"What's so funny," Baji raised an eyebrow.

"It's funny how much you worry about others when you do the same stupid shit yourself." I giggled.

"Whatever, HEY, WHY HAVEN'T YOU ANSWERED MY CALLS OR MESSAGES! ALSO, WHY WEREN'T YOU AT YOUR PLACE!"

"Shush, you're going to wake up the neighbors, then you'll really get kicked out this time." I dragged him into his room and closed the sliding door.

"Well?"

"Well, what?" I asked

"WHY HAVEN'T YOU ANSWERED-"

Before he could finish, I smacked the back of his head.

"WHAT WAS THAT FOR!"

"Shut up before you wake up your mom," I said in a whisper yelling tone.

"Oh right, so, why were you MIA?"

I took a seat on the floor, and he joined me.

"Because," I said.

"Because...?!" Baji looked irritated at my response.

A thought hit me. I gave him a light smack on his neck. "NOW YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU DON'T ANSWER MY CALLS OR TEXTS!" I said in a loud whisper.

"Ok, stop with the hitting." He says, grabbing hold of my arm. "This has to be some kind of abuse."

"Call PETA then," I said.

"Isn't that for animal abuse?" Baji said, really thinking about it.

"Yeah. Your point?" I said with a smug look on my face.

"...." Baji looked really confused but then two and two together. "ARE YOU CALLING ME AN ANIMAL!"

I shoved a pillow in his face. "Stop yelling, you idiot!" I sighed. "Anyways, I texted you because I wanted to talk" My tone is now a bit more serious. "I just want to start off by saying that I'm sorry. I don't want you to think I wanted to lie to you. I just didn't tell you because," I take a breath and rub the back of my neck, "I don't know. Maybe you would get mad and leave or something." I look down, trying to avoid looking at his face. I could see Baji reaching his hand out towards me.

"Y/N-"

I stopped him. "Before you say anything, I want you to hear everything first, and then you can decide where we stand after. You might treat me like a friend now, but what if you're disgusted by me after." He stayed silent after that; he wanted to give me the chance to speak.

"I have a 'business,' I make agreements with gangs, and they provide me with dirty jobs. When I complete them, I get money for them. I work with different gangs, so I have their protection, and because I'm technically not in a specific gang, I can cross gang borders without getting jumped. Now, you're probably thinking, why would these gangs commission me? I get three different requests: The first one is that I fight as a sort of safe ground for avoiding big conflicts. If a gang wants me to fight a certain person from another gang, it won't break out into a fight between two gangs because nobody knows who sent me, and they are too scared to fight me because not only am I strong, but I have connections to other gangs as well. The second request is information; since I work with multiple gangs, I tend to obtain 'special information.' People pay for that, and the only way to get me not to give away that information is for them to pay me double what it's being bought at or give me something of the same value. The third is just my ability; I have a very unique fighting style, it has to do with pressure points and the body's weak spots. I've studied this art of fighting for a while now. Yes, I know how to fight with my fists, but I'm not as good as most people. So sometimes gangs commission me because they don't think they can win a certain fight, so they use me to tip the scales a bit." I think that's about it. I told him pretty much everything.

I look at Baji to see his reaction. He hadn't said anything, so I started to get worried. Did I say too much? I promise to tell him everything.

"I forgive you," he finally spoke up.

What? Did he just say he forgave me? That wasn't the reaction I was expecting at all?

I looked at him with confusion.

"Under one condition," he said but with a serious and angry tone which I completely didn't catch.

"Yes, anything!" I blurted with desperation in my voice. I just wanted to have things the way they were. I didn't want to risk our friendship, and if there were something I could do, I would do it.

"Stop doing whatever you're doing," he said, crossing his arms. I didn't realize how mad he was until that moment, not because I lied to him but because I was putting my life in danger by doing this sort of job.

"What?" My head didn't process what he said. Maybe I didn't hear him correctly.

"You heard me stop this 'business" of yours," he said firmly as if nothing could change his mind.

"ARE YOU CRAZY!" I yelled but then quieted down, realizing it was late. "I can't do that."

"Yes, you can, and you will."

There's a lot of things I like about Baji. He's loyal, puts others first, and is very determined. Those things are his good qualities, but when you're faced against him, those become his bad qualities as well. Knowing this, I know he won't let me off the hook if I refuse to quit. I care about him, but that's all the more reason to keep on doing my job. I get to keep everyone safe this way.

"I don't think you understand. I can't just up and quit. Even if I could, I'm not going to."

Baji grabs my shoulders. "And why aren't you going to quit" I could hear his voice crack "it's dangerous Y/N if you're not going to do it for me, do it for your sister."

"No, you're not allowed to do that," I said in anger, "you're not allowed to bring her into this."

"AND WHY NOT! SHE SHOULD BE REASON ENOUGH FOR YOU TO STOP!"

"I'M DOING IT FOR HER!" I yelled. I lowered my head to avoid his gaze, so he didn't see my teary eyes "don't you get it? I'm doing it for her and you. If I have money, I can give her the life she deserves, and with the power, I get to protect you. SO WHY WOULD I GIVE THAT UP!"

Baji was quiet, but I didn't dare to look up. I felt his hands slide down from my shoulders to his sides.

"fine."

I'm not one to share my feelings or be vulnerable around people, but I feel like I can do those things around Baji. Maybe it's because he was the first friend I ever made or maybe because he knows everything about me, the bad and the good, yet he stays by my side. He's part of the reason I am who I am today. So, when he just responded 'fine,' I could help but feel my chest swell up with pain. I might have won the argument, but it doesn't feel that way.

Baji gets up from where he is sitting. Where is he going? My heart starts to beat fast, and I feel like I can't catch my breath. This fear might eat me whole and leave nothing left but scraps. I reached my arm out, trying to grab him, but I missed. I put my hands on the floor and tried to grab the ground as if my thoughts might swallow me whole, and the only thing that would keep me, in reality, was this floor.

Was he really going to leave

I- I can't go through that again.

Not now.

Not ever.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait don't leave me wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait don't leave me wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait waitwait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait don't leave me wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait don't leave me wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait don't leave me wait wait wait wait wait wait

"Meow"

Just as I was about to lose myself in my thoughts, I heard a cat meowing. I looked up with tears in my eyes to see Baji opening the door of his room for a cat.

"Sorry, I heard the cat," Baji said, grabbing it and holding it up like Simba. He finally turned to me and saw I had tears streaming down my face. "ARE YOU OK?"

Baji sits back down next to me but now with a new little guest. I whipped my eyes and smiled at him. "Yeah, just allergies," I said, laughing. How dumb can I be? Look at me getting all worried when he was just opening the door for a cat. I smack my hand to my face and laugh some more.

Baji sighs like he will say something he might regret later."Y/N, you can keep doing this 'business' for now, but I will find a way to get you out of this, and you will be able to make your sister happy at the same time. But for now, just promise me if you're in any danger, just- run and be safe, please."

"I think I can manage that request," I said with a smile.

I paused and looked down at the cat, and then my smile started to fade. Oh no. "Don't tell me that's Peke J." Baji is known for letting stray cats in his room, but this cat, in particular, is a cat sent from hell itself.

"It is! Chifuyu asked me to look after him for a while."

He looked at me with a sinister grin. What in the world is he planning? Whatever it is, it cant be good.

"You wanna pet him?" He said, nearly shoving the cat in my face. The cat went into attack mode and started swinging his claws every which way.

"HELL NO, GET THAT CAT AWAY FROM ME!" I said, scooting backward. "I normally have no problem with animals. I would go as far as to say that animals like me, BUT NOT THAT CAT. IT'S- IT'S AN EVIL SPAWN!"

Baji burst out laughing and held the cat close to his face. "See harmless"

"Yeah, TO YOU!"

"All this talking is making me hungry," Baji said, placing his hand on his grumbling stomach. "You know I could really go for some Yakisoba right about now." He sighs, closing his eyes, trying to remember the taste of Yakisoba.

"There's a gas station nearby. I can run and get you some."

"Your funny."

"I'm serious. I take you to hunger very seriously. The last time you were hungry, you burned a car."

"Well, it helped my hunger," He said, rolling his eyes and turning his head away from me.

"Alright, I'll be back in a little. I need the fresh air anyways," I said, getting up and walking to the balcony.

"STOP CLIMBING THE BALCONY, and I'll go with you."

"No, YOU stay with the hell child," I said, pointing at Peke J, "and try not to burn anything while I'm gone."

"Can't make any promises." He says, shrugging his shoulders.

"You burn anything, and the next thing that's burning is you."

"Normally, I would be scared, BUT NOW I HAVE PEKE J!"

I swear that damn cat, "What's stopping me from doing something to you when Peke J is gone? I'll put you on the list."

"WAIT, WHAT, LIST!"

"That's for me to know and you to find out if you burn anything when I'm gone."

"Fine, fine. You're not that scary."

"What was that?"

"Nothing..",

Time skip to the gas station

"Thank god for 24 hours shops." The days we're getting colder and walking all the way here in the dark made me regret not wearing thicker clothing. I walked toward the market; the automatic doors opened accompanied by that sound made to signal a customer was at the entrance.

"Hi, welcome," an unenthusiastic cashier said, not even bothering to look up from their phone.

I walked through the aisles and managed to find some yakisoba. I wonder if I should prepare it? It might get cold by the time I head back, so I decided against it. I grabbed a couple of snacks and drinks to go along with it and headed over to the cashier and paid for the items. When I left the store, I took a deep breath to enjoy this cold weather before walking back to Baji's place.

Someone's following me. I thought to myself. I swear, Baji, you think I can't manage to do anything myself. I let out a low groan, upset at the fact that Baji is acting like a helicopter parent right now.

"I know you're there." I turned around to face Baji, but to my surprise, it wasn't him.

"Wow, you really are as good as they say you are, red spider."

Red spider? Hearing that name made me a little more guarded. Looking in the direction of where the voice was coming from, I can see a guy with blonde hair, tannish skin, and glasses emerge from the shadows onto the street light.

"Red spider, huh? What business do you have with me?" I stood my ground. I had to make sure he didn't know that he caught me by surprise.

"No need to be so hostile. I just want to say hi."

"That's hard to believe, so do me a favor and cut to the point. What's your name?"

"Tetta Kisaki and I have a proposition for you."

"Kisaki? I haven't heard of you before? What is your proposition?"

"I want to help you get on Mikey's good side."

"How do you that?"

"Hanma told me to look into you. He said he finds you intriguing, and he doesn't take an interest in many people. So you also piqued my interest."

Hanma doesn't give out information about me lightly, so they must work closely together.

"How exactly are you going to get me close to Mikey?"

"I know someone in Toman, someone I'm close to."

"How do I know you're trustworthy, Kisaki?"

"The question isn't whether or not you can trust me; it's how far are you willing to go to succeed in your goals."

"Ok, well, who is this friend of yours that's in Toman?"

"I'm going to be the new captain of the 3rd division. I'll even try to get you into the ceremony if Mikey allows it. I want you up there with me; that way, you'll be able to get recognition from Toman, and people might start to work with you."

"Good luck trying to convince Mikey."

"I have my ways."

"I'm going to say this now if you plan on trying to get in to join Toman, you're out luck."

"No, nothing like that, I just want to be your priority. Toman will be the best gang in all of Japan. I'll make sure of it."

"What do you gain from it?"

"What?" Kisaki acted like I burst his daydream bubble and shocked him back into reality.

"Your speaking about this with a lot of passion for it, not to be part of a big plan or something with a big reward. I also wonder what you gain from being close to Hanma who runs two gangs that are technically Tomans enemies."

"Haha, observant. I've already said too much, and it's getting late. When you decide, you know how to contact me. I know you'll make the right choice." Kisaki said, waving with his back turned walking in the opposite direction.

It's a tempting offer, but there has to be something bigger going on. What am I getting myself into?
