Everyone wanted to be you.
You were one of the popular girls. Loved by everyone, no one would try to protest or get against you.

Yes, it was fun, but challenging.
As you got out of the car with the fellow members of your clique; Heather, Naveah, and Beverly. Trailing behind the three who were chatting about god-knows-what, you looked around the school. There were so many different people with different li--

" (Y/N)! What are you doing? " Heather exclaims, tugging you ahead to be next to be in pace with them. " Uh, thinking? " you say, raising an eyebrow while looking down at the shorter girl. Naveah speaks up, " Well let's not think for now. Using your brain hurts! "

You chuckled, Heather once more talking, " Shut up. We're trashing girls. Look, at her! I think she wears those jeans everyday! "

The girl cowered, looking fearfully at the three of you. She was wearing mustard yellow jeans with a lighter yellow shirt representing the Los Angeles Lakers, and had her short, curly brown hair up in a bun.

She darted off, and you couldn't help but have sympathy cascade in you. " Don't you think that was a little mean? Besides, the outfit was cute, " you muse.

" Doesn't matter if it's mean. It's the truth. It wasn't cute, anyway, " Beverly sneered, looking in the general direction of where she ran. " I dress like that, " you say, the three gasping.

" No you don't! You dress much better. Otherwise, we wouldn't be friends, " Heather hummed. Walking into your school, the crowd fawned and made a path for you.

You smiled at some people, and they gasped and screamed. Chuckling, you shove your hands into your pockets and admire.

Being popular was what you've always been. Never a victim of bullying. For many long years you'd been envied. Topped with beauty and brains, you were everything they wanted. Boys and girls wanted you. Girls and boys wanted to be you.

Scanning the crowds, you felt the breath in your lungs quickly escape. One of the most beautiful men was laughing with his friends in a corner. Curly, brown hair pulled back into a tight bun. Chocolate milky brown eyes glistening with amusement. Nicely trimmed stubble.

You felt someone tug your arm. You look to see Heather, sighing, " Why would you stop, come on! " He'd taken note of you stopping and staring and looked at you. Your cheeks lit up, and you looked away, quickly strolling away.

At lunchtime, you were peering over the crowds for him while walking with the girls to the normal table. You were unable to find him. Sitting down, you poked and prodded at your food. " (Y/N), you seem really out of it today. Are you okay? " Naveah asked, looking at you concerned.

" Uh, yes, just, uh.. no sleep, " you lie, smiling. You were really just distracted to find this mysterious man.

" Alright, well just be sure to sleep tonight. Today has been too off, " Heather says, biting into an apple. You slowly nod, looking around.

Victoriously, you see him, eating with his friends. Looking for a few minutes, he notices you staring. You smile broadly at him.

He glances behind him, then looks back at you.
Giggling, you look him straight in the eye. He smiles back, finally realizing it was him you were smiling at.

Heather snaps in your face. " Hey, come on. You definitely didn't get enough sleep, " she sighs, rolling her eyes. " Right. Sorry, " you murmur, looking down into your lap.

After school, you'd made up a petty excuse (  " I need to nap " ) to get to the library. Walking in, you looked at all the books ahead of you.

You walked through the rows, scanning over them before landing on a biography about Daveed Diggs.

" You like Mr. Diggs, oui? " a voice asks you, as you flip through the book. " Yeah, " you sigh contentedly, " he's so interesting! "

" Mhm, " they hum. " Yeah, uh, I'm uh, (Y/N) (L/N) by the way, " you finally look up to see the mystery man. Your cheeks light up in a blush.

" Marquis de Lafayette, mademoiselle, " he smiles.

" You're beautiful, " you breath out, then your eyes widen. " Shit! I mean, shoot. I didn't mean to- uh, " you stammer, chewing on your nail.
" It's okay. I know I am, how you say, beautiful, " he grinned.

What should have been a 5 minute quick run in turned into a 4 hour hangout and get to know each other. You learned he'd only been at the school for 3 weeks, moving from France to the US.

He'd quickly became a hit on the debate team, a band of people who weren't popular ( also a team you probably would be on, if your friends would accept it ), and befriended men named Alexander Hamilton, Hercules Mulligan and John Laurens.

Sighing in front of your house, you looked up at him. " I had a great time with you. We should talk more, you're beyond interesting, " you gushed, quickly writing down your number on a paper and giving it to him.

" I will be sure to, text, is it? You, " he said, and pressed a kiss to your forehead. " Sleep well, mon amour, " he murmured, waving goodbye and walking to his home.

Going to school the next day, you were more than enthusiastic. Making up another excuse to get away from the girls, you retreated to the room where he had text you that the debate team met for lunchtime.

You peeked your head in, seeing many people gathered, talking.
You saw Lafayette weave his way through the crowd. " (Y/N)! Ma chérie, hello! " he said, whisking you in. " Before we start, there's people I'd like to meet. "

" This is monsieur Alexander Hamilton, " he said, gesturing to a short man with lengthy raven hair. " Aren't you the popular girl? " he growled, looking at you. " I- yes, but, please disregard that for now. I, I don't think I will be soon, " you murmur, " Either way, nice to meet you, Alexander, " you smile.

You go around meeting the other two he had mentioned earlier, along with two girls named Angelica and Eliza. Lastly, you had met the girl your friends had made fun of.

"  This is Peggy! " Lafayette smiled, and you grinned at her. " Hey, where's your yellow pants? " you asked, her eyes widening, expecting you to insult her on the spot. " I loved them. And the Lakers are pretty cool, " you note.

" O-oh. Yeah, uhm, I just didn't want to wear them today, " she said, tugging at a loose strand of her hair that was in a ponytail.
" Aw. Your pants today are really cool though. I'm jealous, " you grin, looking at her lavender pants. " Thank you, " she smiled softly, looking at you.

You would continue with the chat, but you were cut off by Mr. Washington, the teacher of the classroom. " Ladies and gentleman! Today,  we have Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson debating! " he yelled, and everyone cheered.

" Topic today is homework. Hamilton is against it, and Jefferson is for it. Let's get to it, boys! "
You quickly recognized Thomas; he was slightly popular among the boys. Both fired well, Hamilton rising slightly above. Both of them spit out insults and points in a rapping type manner.

It was truly magnificent. In the end, the classroom voted who won, and Hamilton got the most votes. Everyone for him cheered and chanted his name. It was easily the most fun lunch you had in a long time.

" Laf, this was really fun. Could I come back? " you asked. " Of course! I'm glad you liked it! Do you think we could hang out after school? " he questioned, a big smile across his face. " Yeah. Meet me in the library again. "

You slid the Daveed Diggs biography into the cubby hole for returns at the library, Lafayette following behind. " I'm in love with Diggs, " you sighed dreamily. He chuckled, " Of course you are, " he grinned.

" So, I'm thinking, maybe we could go out and get like, milkshakes or something? Then hang out at my place? "
" Sounds like a deal. "

The night was spent snuggling and reading. Although having met not long ago, you had quickly bonded. Looking up at him, you saw he was carefully studying the material he was reading.

He looked beyond adorable doing so.
You leaned up and pressed a kiss onto his jaw. He chuckled and looked down at you, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

The next day, you were greeted by the three girls. " (Y/N), we've met a new person. Listen, we know you've been avoiding us. And if you keep on doing so, you're gonna get replaced, " Heather growled at you, crossing her arms.

That day you had forced yourself to eat with them and were deep in thought. Popularity or love? It echoed through your head. You'd be losing everything you knew if you continued to hang out with him and his friends.

Reality hit you. If you had dated him, you wouldn't be friends with them anymore, or even popular.
Were you willing to give everything up for him?

Lafayette found you at the library a couple days after your reality situation. You'd been reading about another man, Anthony Ramos.

He sat down. " Listen. Did I do something? " he murmured, desperately staring at you. You looked up and something in you broke. Looking at the man, you slammed your book down.

No one else was there, so you were fine. " I'm sorry, Laf. They're gonna replace me if we keep on hanging out. They'll rid me of what I have, " you sigh, grabbing your arms and looking down.

" (Y/N). Are you seriously doing this? I.. I thought we were friends.. and you're throwing it all away for popularity? " his voice cracks, and he tugs at his shirt. " I should have listened to them.. they knew this would happen, " he glares.

Looking up, you see him walking away. " Laf! Wait! " you say. He stops, not bothering to look away.

" I'm an idiot! I'm the classic asshole popular girl, huh? Right? " you sighed, looking at him. " Marquis. Popularity.. " you sigh, " Popularity is just a.. it's just nothing! " you yell your sudden realization when you had saw him so crestfallen.

" I'm so in love with you! We met not that long ago, but you charmed me! I.. I can't go on without you. I don't know why I've been avoiding you.

I'm just scared to tell my friends that I'm done with them. You're everything I want. I want to date you, marry you, grow old with you and watch our children have children. You've been everything on my mind for the last days! I'm sorry, so sorry I would say that. Please don't leave me, " you murmur, and he turns around to you.

A few tears are rolling down your cheeks. He quickly whisks over to you and wipes them. " Y-you've been on my mind too. Everyday. I want nothing more than to hold you and kiss you. I'm beyond in love with you, too, " he murmurs, grabbing you and pressing him closer to you.

Walking into school, you're greeted by gasps and stares as you hold Lafayette's hand. " I'm excited for debate club today, " you say to him, " Herc is obviously going to win. "

" Of course, mon amour, " he nods, pressing you closer to him as he sees who's approaching.
" (Y/N)! What are you doing with.. this, "

Heather growls as she looks Lafayette up and down with a disgusted look. " This? My beautiful boyfriend. Hot right? " you grin, pressing a kiss to his cheek.

" I've decided that I don't need your stuck up ass in my life. I have friends in the debate club. Including Peggy, you know, the girl you thought had bad jeans? Yeah, she actually has a much better taste of fashion than you do. "

People were gathered around as you roasted Heather. She was beyond embarrassed at this. " I think you should open up your mind a little that people are different. If you learned that, then you wouldn't be such an asshole. Because you're just scum. Well, anyway. I hope this replacement is nice, because I'm sure as hell not coming back. "

Heather was scowling as she quickly said something like " let's go! " and swung around. Behind her back, Naveah gave you a thumbs up. You chuckled, and looked up at Laf, who was staring down at you in pure adoration and admiration.

" I love you, " he murmured, " meet you in the library after school? "
" I love you too, Laf. And you know it. "
