(Lucas's POV Ten years later.)
I was sitting in the bright sun watching these three kids playing in the sand. It wasn't to warm out but it was still early. I checked my watch again for the hundredth time. It was one of those days that seemed like every minute felt like an hour.
"Nina, Jayson, Jakob come on it's time to get going." I said to my three kids. Nina is going on six and the twins Jay and Jake are four. We adopted them about two years ago after fostering them for two.
"Do you think dad is done?" Nina asked.
"He better be. It has been a long day and I am so ready to be home." I said smiling at her.
"I like it here." She said looking back over the ocean.
"Your dad and I have came back here every year since we started dating." I said smiling at the old hotel we had stayed at every time we came.
"Daddy, not want to go." Jay said pouting.
"Don't you want to see your new home? Don't you want to see dad? Papa Jim is here with Uncle Landon, Aunt Lacey and all of them." I said standing up.
"I liked our old home." Jake said. He was mad we were moving I just hope he liked the new house.
"Come on let's go if you don't like it you can tell your dad all about it." I said picking up the towels and holding hands of two of my kids as we made our way back to the car.
"Did dad get to ride in a big plane down here?" Jay asked as I buckled them in.
"Nope he drove down with all of our stuff." I said making them giggle.
"Ha ha we got to ride in a plane and dad didn't." Jake said laughing his little butt off. If he only knew how many plane rides we have taken down here.
"How far away is the new house?" Nina asked.
"Not far I promise. Are any of you hungry?" I asked turning on to the highway.
"Nope, I want to see dad." Jake whined. Nap time is so coming soon. Why did I have to book our flights so early? Oh because I missed my husband that's why. One week we have been separated one week. You would think that it had been years by the way my heart felt.
I drove for the next twenty minutes until I found the place I had been dreaming about for years now. Holden and I had started dreaming about our dream home when we started college. It took all four years to get it right and another four years to make it a reality. But we took two years off to enjoy our honeymoon, become parents and start our careers. Holden and Landon started their dream business and after I built this website ten times better then facebook I sold it for a lot of money now I am working on kids websites from home.
"Where here." I said pulling up to a gate. I punched in the numbers and it slowly opened.
"Wow is this our new home?" Nina asked.
"Yep, this is what has kept dad away for so long. And now that it is finished we will all be staying together forever." I said pulling up to the front of the house. Holden came running out. I jumped out of the car and ran to him. We kissed a searing kiss before letting the monkeys out of their cage.
"Dad" all three of them yelled before jumping on him.
"Hey guys, I have missed you all so much. Welcome home." He said smiling and kissing each of the kids.
"I want to go inside." Jay yelled.
"Well what are we waiting for?" He asked taking my hand and leading me and the kids into the house. We had found land about twenty miles from the beach that we built our own little subdivision on. Every body lived here now we just happened to be the last to move in. Our house was also the biggest. Not because we were trying to out do everyone it's just when your planning something for four years it tends to get kind of big.
We walked into the foyer and into the openess of the downstairs. The stairs were right when you walk in kind of dividing the living room and the family room. The kitchen was near the back and we had floor to ceiling windows back there over looking our spacey back yard, pool and if you squinted you can see the ocean. Holden and I had a very big office next to the kitchen we could work together and still see what was going on with the kids thanks to the windows and the glass wall that allowed us to see into the rest of the house.
"Let's go find your rooms. Aunt Lacey and Aunt Brook have decorated everyone's rooms." Holden said and started for the stairs. The five of us headed up the stairs as soon as we were up there the kids noticed the bridge. Yes we added a bridge to our house.
"Cross the bridge to your side of the upstairs." I said following behind three really excited kids.
"Okay stop, Nina this is your room." Holden said opening the door. It was done in every color of the rainbow. The walls were pink and blue her tile floors were black and yellow and the furniture was green and purple. Leaving her blankets and stuff orange, red and white. Why you might ask well Nina is our artist and she loves every color so when we asked her what colors she wanted her room she couldn't decided so we told Lacey and Brook to give her as many colors as they could.
"Wow I love it. It's so pretty." She said spinning around looking at everything.
"Our room is next." Jake said pouting. I didn't know how they were going to take the fact that they were getting their own rooms but I hoped having a door between them would help.
"You staying in here or you going to walk with us to their rooms?" Holden asked.
"I'm coming with you." Nina said running back to us.
"Okay, Jake this is you buddy." Holden said opening the door. His room was green and blue. Blue walls with green tile and a mix of green and blue everything but white furniture.
"Dad where is Jay's bed?" Jake asked I could hear the tears in his voice.
"Come here you two I want to show you something." Holden said walking into the room and over to a double door.
"Okay, now Jay open the door." I said crossing my fingers. Jay opened the door to a red and black room just like Jake's just different colors.
"This is Jay's part of the room." Holden said.
"But they are different rooms." Jay said sounding sad.
"Kind of, the only thing that separates the two rooms in your closets. You can leave these doors open all the time." Holden said.
"Really?" Jay asked looking at his room and then back at Jake's room.
"Really" I said.
"Jake think about it we can play in both rooms and if we want we can have sleep overs in each others beds." Jay said he was our optimise and was always the one to help Jake see the bigger picture.
"More room for us." Jake yelled making Nina pout.
"Where is your room?" She asked us.
"Follow me." Holden said walking out of Jay's side of the rooms. We crossed the bridge and walked into our huge master suite.
"Wow this room is almost as big as our old house." Nina said it wasn't but it was big. We had red walls with blue tile floors dark wood furniture and white curtains over our patio doors. Yes we have a huge patio balcony over looking the back yard. The doors are actually part of the floor to ceiling windows. Each kid has a small bathroom in their rooms as to where ours is huge with a custom made tub and shower, duel sinks and a in closed toilet. Our walk in closet is big enough to have all of our clothes and shoes plus some.
"Is this all of the house?" Nina asked.
"Most of it. I mean there is a garage a play room an attic movie theater and a basement mans cave but all in all this is it." Holden said.
"Where is the play room?" Jay asked.
"On the other side of Jay's room. That is where all your movies, games and some of the bigger toys are and will stay." I said making sure they knew that stuff was not leaving that room.
"Why don't you guys go play while daddy and I go unload the car. Someone is going to come pick it up so we need to get your stuff out of it." Holden said.
"When can we see everybody?" Jake asked.
"Soon we are having a welcome home cook out later so go play for a little bit while we get your stuff." I said.
"We have a lot to do before everyone shows up so you might want to look over your rooms and stuff now." Holden said and they finally left us.
"I have an idea. Let's go unload park the car at the end of the drive to be picked up and then you can show me how the showers work." I said. Yes, I am not shy anymore nor do I have any of the same fears I uses to. When my mom died a couple years back it was like everything I ever feared died with her. I did attend her funeral but not to say good bye I went to make sure she was really gone. Sad yes I know but I figured out that as long as she was still alive I was afraid she would come and take everything away from me. She had even tried a couple times when she came back to visit with Landon and Lacey. She was at both of their weddings and tried really hard to get everyone to hate me. It didn't work but I was still afraid of her.
"Sounds like a really good plan. My mom will be here in about an hour. She can watch the kids while we get ready." He said with a wink. Our parents got married after we did. They dated for a long time. I think they waited for Holden and I and Landon and Brook all to get married before they did. Did I forget to tell you about Landon marrying Brook. He did right after Holden and I got married. Lacey married Brandon before she even went to college. We all have kids and mom and dad shower them all with love and gifts. Yes I call Holden's mom, mom and he calls my dad, dad.
We went down stairs and out the front door to unload the car. I got the car seats while he got the bags.
"Take the seats to the garage and I will help you put them in your van." Holden said taking the bags in the house. Yes, I drive a mini van. I am going to be the best soccer dad ever.
"Okay, open the doors for me." i said before he made it in the house. I carried the three car seats to the slow opening garage door. I was putting the car seats in my van when the gate buzzer rang.
"There here for the rental." Holden said leaving me to go deal with the rental car people. I hope I remembered everything. I am sure Holden will double check everything before he let's them take it.
"They said you only put like sixty miles on it." He said coming back in to help me.
"I took the kids to the beach because you said not to get here until ten so we left the beach at 9:30." I said.
"What time did you plan get in?" he asked giving me a knowing look.
"Um.. well we got here at like six." I said not looking at him.
"You mean to tell me you were at the beach for a couple hours?" He demanded.
"I missed you, and being here in Florida always makes me feel closer to you so I figured why not let them play on the beach after stopping for breakfast." I said with a shrug.
"Babe, you could have called me. I didn't think your flight got in until 9 and it would take you that long to get here. I was ready at 8." He said frowning.
"You know you could have called." I said finishing the last car seat and climbing out of the van.
"Yes, I could have but so could have you." He said giving me a pointed look.
"Yeah, your right. When I booked the flight the only thing I was thinking about was you and getting to be with you. You know these last four years have been hell and I for one am sick of you being gone all the time and I just wanted to come home." I said almost crying.
"Your home now, babe. Your home now." He said hugging me tightly to him.
"Okay you two. I want hugs and I want to know where my three beautiful gran-babies are." mom said from outside the big garage door. I walked over and hugged her. I missed her. Her and dad had moved down a year ago and we didn't want the kids down here until the house was finished so I had only seen them a couple times over the year.
"There up in their rooms, I hope." I said chuckling.
"Knowing my gran-babies they are into everything in the house right now." She said laughing before running in the house through the garage door.
"Let's go have that shower. I text her and told her I needed an hour to be just with you so she is going to keep the monkeys busy for an hour." Holden said taking my hand and leading me up the stairs.
Our shower was more steamy then it has been in a while. Okay so a week but whose counting. I so love that man. He is still a sexy beast. The one think I love about him is that he is so loving and caring. But he can be a hard ass if need be.
"Daddy, dad, Aunt Brook and Uncle Landon are here and Uncle Landon said to stop playing hit the... What Aunt Brook?" Jake yelled from outside the door.
"I am going to kill my brother." I said shaking my head trying not to laugh.
"He will regret it if he keeps teaching our kids shit. Hunter is almost one and I can be just as bad as your brother." He said unlocking the door.
"Brook will kill you and you know it." I said shaking my head.
"Daddy, Aunt Brook is beating Uncle Landon." Nina said as we walked down the stairs.
"He shouldn't mess with a momma bear." I told her holding back a chuckle.
"Yeah, he got yelled at by Grandma too." Jay said laughing.
"Luc, man am I glad to see you. I swear I didn't send him up to say what he said." Landon said running up behind me to hide from his wife.
"Land, pay backs are a witch." I whispered making him go still behind me.
"You wouldn't." He said.
"No I wouldn't but Holden will." I said snickering.
"Holden, let's talk buddy. Dad's out by the grill so let's you and me go see what he is doing. I need to talk to you about the bro code." Landon said making all of us laugh at him.
"Can we go out and play?" Jake asked.
"Hit it kiddo's." I said making the scream as the followed their dad and uncle out the door.
"Where is Lace and Brand?" I asked Brook who was handing Hunter off to Landon.
"They'll be here in a few. Lace has had some really bad morning sickness with this pregnancy. I think she might have a boy. She wasn't this bad with Hope or Becca." Brook said pouring us both a glass of tea. I looked out the window to see mom and Holden playing with the kids, Dad and Landon with Hunter by the pool. This was my life and I loved it.
"Are you fostering here like you did back home?" Brook asked.
"I don't know if they are going to let us. I mean Florida is finally changing but once I get settled I will check into it. We have the two extra rooms and the playroom if we need it. I would love to and I would love to adopt at least three more." I said making Brook laugh. She only wants two kids and then she is done. I wanted ten but I am happy with the three I got if that is all I can have.
"Boy your crazy." She said shaking her head. We talked a few more minutes before the door bell rang.
"I'll get it." I said getting up and walking to the door. I opened it to find a really green Lace, a sad looking Brandon and two happy go lucky little girls.
"Hey, move I need the bathroom." Lace yelled before running to one of the many bathrooms.
"Sorry she isn't doing so well this time." Brandon said coming in.
"When is her next appointment?" I asked closing the door behind them.
"Monday, doc said it's normal and it should be letting up soon. I hope it does because I feel awful." He said.
"Girls why don't you go out in the back yard and play with Nina and the boys." I said smiling down at them.
"Okay, Uncle Luc." They said before running throught the house and out the door.
"She'll be fine. I told her to go lay down in the guest room for a little bit." Brook said coming back into the kitchen.
"How long is she normally sick for during the day?" I asked.
"Until about noon. And then she is good to go until the next morning about seven." Brandon said frowning.
"She is only what, four months? I am sure it will all be over with soon." I said hopeful.
Once Lacey was feeling better we all gathered in the back yard and enjoyed our welcome home cook out. We played with the kids and then the big kids played we ate and laughed. It was great to be with my whole family again. I love them all and I am so glad I have them in my life. I remember once apon a time I couldn't wait to get away from all of them until Holden came into my life. Now I have everything I had ever dreamed about. The love of my life, the house of my dreams the kids I never thought I would have and the family I always wanted. I could die tomorrow and be the happiest person that lived.
Once everyone left and the kids were in bed. The love of my life and I finally got to lay in each others arms. It has been the best almost eleven years of my life and I hope for at least another twenty.
"I love you." Holden said.
"I love you too, babe." i said closing my eyes and falling fast asleep in the arms of the man I loved. I love being a grown up.
