They finally saw Duloc and Shrek said to Fiona said "there it is, princess, your future awaits you"

"That's Duloc?" Fiona asked

"Yeah, I know, you know Shrek thinks Lord Farquaad is compensating for something" Donkey said "which I think means he has a really-" then Shrek stomps his hove which made him fell

"I uh, I guess we better move on" Shrek said

"Sure.... but Shrek? " Fiona said and he stopped "I'm... I'm worried about Grace"

What?" Shrek said and Grace got confused

"I mean, look at her, she doesn't look so good..." Fiona said

"What you talking about? She's fine!" Donkey said

"Yeah I'm fine" Grace said

"Well, that's what they always say, and then, and then, and then next thing you know you're on your back!" Fiona said as she kneed down to her level and puts her hand on Grace's shoulder

Grace leers at Fiona

"...Dead!" Fiona said

"She's right you look awful" Shrek said "do you want to sit down?"

"You know, I'll make you some tea" Fiona said

"Well I was not going to say anything but my feet are sore from the walking" Grace said "and I think I have splinters"

"Who's hungry? I'll find us some dinner" Shrek said and he leaves

"I'll get the firewood" Fiona said and she leaves

A while later, Shrek, Fiona and Grace are having dinner on the last day of their journey

"Mmmm... This is good... mmm... this is really good... what is it?" Fiona said

"A weed rat, cooked rotisserie style!" Shrek said

"No kidding... Oh, this is delicious!" Fiona said

"Well, they're also great in stews. Now I don't mean to brag, but I make a MEAN weed rat stew!" Shrek said

They both look over at the kingdom of Duloc

"I guess I'll be dining a little differently tomorrow night..." Fiona said

"Maybe you can come visit me in the swamp sometime... I'll cook all kinds of stuff for you: swamp toad soup, fish-eye tartar, you name it!" Shrek said

"I think I'm gonna be sick" Grace said as she runs off and they chuckled

'I'd like that..." Fiona said

He sucks up a weed rat tail, and awkwardly laughs. She smiles back at him, and their eyes meet. Grace noticed it and of course she knows that they're falling in love

"Um... Princess?" Shrek asked

"Yes... Shrek?" Fiona said

"I... um... I was wondering... are you... um..." Shrek tries to say something

"C'mon Shrek spit it out" Grace said to herself

"Are you going to eat that?" Shrek said

"Ugh, what is wrong with you?" Grace frustrated

He makes a gesture of frustration when she isn't looking. She places the weed rat in his hand, and they lean towards each other then Donkey appeared between them "man isn't this romantic, just looka t that sunset"

"Sunset? Oh no," Fiona panics "I mean, it's late, it's very late"

"What?" Shrek confused

"Wait a minute, I know what's going on here. You're afraid of the dark" Donkey said

"Yes! Yes that's it, I'm terrified" Fiona said "you knw what, I'd better get inside"

"Don't feel bad, princess. I used to be afraid of the dark too until... No, wait. I'm still afraid of the dark"

"Good night" Fiona said

"Good night" Shrek said and she went inside the cabin

"Oh, now I really see what's going on here" Donkey said

"Oh, what are you talking about?" Shrek said

"Hey, I don't even wanna hear... Look, I'm an animal, I got instincts, and I know you two were diggin' on each other! I can feel it" Donkey said

"Me too" Grace said

"Oh, you're crazy! I'm just bringing her back to Farquaad!" Shrek said

"Oh, come on, Shrek, wake up and smell the pheromones! Just go in there and tell her you how you feel!" Donkey said

"Arrgh! There's nothing to tell! Besides even if I did tell her that.. well, you know, I am not saying that I do, cause I don't... she's a princess! And I'm..." Shrek said

"An ogre?" Grace asked

"Yeah. An ogre" he said and walks away

"Where're you going?" Donkey asked

"To get... more firewood" Shrek said as he walks away

Donkey and Grace sees a full pile of firewood

"I guess he wants some time alone" Grace thought

At night, Donkey and Grace went inside to check on Fiona

"Princess! Princes Fiona" Donkey said

"Princess, where are you?" Grace said

Short time later, they heard someone fall in, they turned and they think they saw a monster, they screamed and Grace ran off to hide but it turns out to be Fiona as a ogre

"It's okay, it's okay" Fiona said

"What did you do with the princess?" Donkey said

"Donkey, shh, I'm the princess. It's me... in this body" Fiona tries to explain

"Oh, my God, you ate the princess!" Donkey panics and he shouts at her stomach as Fiona tries to calm him down "can you hear me, keep breathing, I can get you out of there, SHREK, SHREK"

"Donkey, this is me" Fiona grabbed his face and he realized it, she let's go of him and Grace came out of her hiding place

"Princess?... What happened to you, you're a... uh... different" Donkey said

"I'm UGLY! Okay?" Fiona said

"Well yeah! What was it, something you ate? I told Shrek those rats were a bad idea!" Fiona said

"No. it's... it's been this way as long as I can remember" Fiona said

"What d'you mean? Look, I ain't never seen you like this before!" Donkey said

"It only happens when the sun goes down" she said and looks at her reflection in a water barrel "by night one way, by day another / Thus shall be the norm / Till you receive true love's kiss / then, take love's true form"

"Oh, that's beautiful. I didn't know you wrote poetry" Donkey said

"Um Donkey, I think it's a spell" Grace said

"It is a spell! When I was a little girl, a witch cast a spell on me. Every night I become this, this horrible ugly beast!" Fiona explains "I was placed in the tower to await the day when my true love would rescue me. That's why I have to marry Lord Farquaad before the sun sets, and he sees me... like this"

Fiona starts sobbing

"All right, all right, calm down. It's not so bad. You're not that ugly... well, you are. I ain't gonna lie, you ARE ugly. But you only look like this at night, Shrek's ugly 24/7!" Donkey said

"Nice save" Grace said to Donkey

"But Donkey, Grace, I'm a princess! And this is not how a princess is supposed to look!" Fiona

"Fiona, how about you don't marry Farquaad?" Grace said

"I have to. Only the true love's kiss can break the spell" Fiona said

"Well, you're kind of an ogre. And you and Shrek, well, you got a lot in common" Donkey said

"Shrek?" Fiona said "look at me Donkey and Grace, really who could ever love a beast so hideous and ugly, princess and ugly don't go together, that's why I can't stay here with Shrek. My only chance to live happily ever after is to marry my true love, don't you see guys, that's just has to be, it's the only way to break the spell"

"Well maybe you should tell Shrek the truth" Grace suggested

"No, no, no you can't breathe the word" Fiona begs "no one must ever know"

"What's the point of being able to talk if you gotta keep secrets?" Donkey asked

"Promise you two you won't tell" Fiona said "promise"

"Alright, alright, we won't tell him" Donkey said

"But you should" Grace said as she and Donkey went out of the cabin

"I just know, before this is over, I'm gonna need a whole lot of serious therapy. Look at my eye twitchin" Donkey said as he and Grace went outside to get some sleep
