                        Glenelg

I came to a place some years ago,

A place where the mountains reach to the sea,

And becomes night imperceptibly,

And here my spirit found peace of mind,

And nature was mine to look and find.

I walked by the shore and shared with the sea,

The music it makes till eternity,

The lull of its sound brought solace to me,

And healed wounds from humanity.

I turned my gaze to the rocky hills,

Where stag and fox still roam at will,

My span on earth is governed by years,

But these craggy heights know none of these fears.

I shared with the hills misty tops,

And the sound of the sea on the barnacled rocks,

The colours that came at the end of the day,

An artist's paint box could never portray.

As I watched the rivers silken way,

A Heron arose from across the bay,

And sailed on lazy flapping wings,

..... A gift denied even to kings.

How blind we are to the beauty around,

A healing balm by all to be found,

But we have forgotten to sit and look,

And ignore the call of the babbling brook.

I sat and I looked at the sights around,

I sat I listened to the smallest sound,

And tried to retain in my inner mind,

The beauty of all for troubled mind.

When burdens of life get hard to bear,

And every day seems full of care,

I'll recall my magical, special place,

Where I know complete peace with the human race.

I'll give thanks for the hills,

And sound of the sea,

And the hours of contentment,

They gave to me.
