The next week, Kurt was at his locker, and Brittany walked over to him...

"I really like your outfit, and I think you're, like, fabulous. I just love everything you do." Brittany said.

"Why, thank you, Britt." Kurt says.

"I really wanna run your campaign for president." Said Brittany.

Kurt stared at her.

"Out of all the kids at this school, I think that you are the biggest unicorn."

"I'm sorry?" Kurt asked.

"When a pony does a good deed, he gets a horn and becomes a unicorn, and he poops out cotton candy until he forgets he's magical. And then his horn falls off. And black unicorns, they become zebras." Brittany tells him.

"Oh, that's... that's a terrifying story." Kurt says, closing his locker and walking away.

"No, it's not. No... okay. No. The point is... is that a unicorn is somebody who knows they're magical and isn't afraid to show it. Well, you and Ashleigh went through hell last year, and you both never forgot how you two were. I've also slept with a lot of people and am very popular, so I think I could get you mega votes." Said Brittany.

"Then why don't you just run?" Kurt asked.

"I'm not smart enough." Brittany muttered.

"Well, Britt, I have to say I'm... I'm flattered. And really excited." Kurt says, laughing softly.

"Cool. I'll come over after school, and we'll work on your campaign posters. I got a lot of great ideas." Brittany said.

"Great. Great. I'll... I'll see you then." Said Kurt.

A few minutes later, Will walked into the choir room...

"All right, New Directions! Big news. As you all know, Vocal Adrenaline came in second last year at nationals." Will said.

"Do you have to keep reminding us?" Ashleigh asked, groaning loudly and sitting back in the chair.

"The only good thing that came out of that lost weekend..." Finn says.

Rachel elbowed his arm.

"Besides, us two getting back together." Said Finn.

"The boosters at Carmel don't donate tens of thousands of dollars every year to come in second. So they've fired Dustin Goolsby." Will said.

"Good." Ashleigh said, crossing her arms over her chest.

"And they're having some trouble finding another coach. It seems like no one wants to take on that pressure cooker." Will says.

"Then that means they're vulnerable. And if we worked just a little harder... we could do this. We could beat them this year." Ashleigh said.

"Yes. But that also means that, um, I can't direct the musical this year." Will tells them.

"Mr. Schue, you... you can't cancel the musical. My New York dreams depend on it." Said Rachel.

"I'm not cancelling it. I'm just not directing it. My sole focus has to be in here. Nationals, nationals, nationals. It's not just me that's gonna need to focus harder this year." Said Will. "So every day after choir practice, I'm instituting a mandatory "Booty Camp" so that we can work on our dancing. Not for all of you, just the ones that I think need help. Like..."

"Finn." Finn says.

"How'd you know? Puckerman. Hummel." Will says.

"I must protest." Kurt says.

Blaine and Ashleigh looked back at Kurt, snickering lightly.

"You kind of have one move, Kurt."

"It's like this sashay, and it's super distracting." Blaine tells him.

"Jones." Will said.

"Hell to the nizzy-no." Mercedes tells him.

"You once told me you were Beyoncé. You don't think she spends extra time in the dance studio? Anyone else? Mike Chang has offered to be my assistant. And we start tomorrow. Yes, Puckerman, it is mandatory." Will tells him. "And Ashleigh."

"Mr. Schue, would you mind me dropping by? Yeah, I really need to catch up with you guys." Said Blaine.

"I'm glad that you're so concerned with our special needs members, but how about me? Who's gonna direct the musical?" Asked Rachel.

"My God. Shut up! Just shut up about the stupid musical. This club isn't all about you; there are other people. Have you even asked if they wanna do the musical? No, you haven't." Ashleigh tells her.

"That's rich. That's coming from the girl that performs at every competition." Rachel says.

"Because you and Finn ruin it all for us by kissing! Sorry, Mr. Schue, I think I'm coming down with something. I'm going to get some water." Ashleigh says, snatching her coat off the chair and walking out of the choir room.

Will cleared his throat.

"Ladies and gentlemen, your co-musical directors, Ms. Pillsbury and Coach Beiste." Will says, seeing them walk into the room.

"I'm here to keep the football guys in line. I've also talked them into playing the Jets." Shannon said.

"Mr. Schue, with all due respect to Ms. Pillsbury and Coach Beiste, this is crazy. They have absolutely zero experience in directing a musical." Rachel says.

"Wow, you really do love to complain, don't you? You moan when the musical might be cancelled, but now it's back on, and you're still moaning. I'm gonna go see if Ashleigh's okay." Blaine muttered, standing up and leaving the choir room.

"That's two people Rachel has driven away." Puck said.

"Totally untrue. In college, I was in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. I played the Forum." Said Shannon.

"Besides, they were gonna have some help. I've decided to include two student directors this year." Will said.

"Mr. Schue, I am honoured, but Barbra was 40 when she directed herself in Yentel. It's too soon." Rachel tells him.

"I hate you." Brittany says.

"I was actually hoping that Artie and Ashleigh would take the job." Said Will.

"Me? I mean, I understand Ashleigh, but I've developed my whole persona around conflict avoidance." Artie said.

"You can do this. Besides, you've got Ashleigh." Tina tells him.

"I'm in." Said Artie.

"What's going on?" Ashleigh asked, walking back into the choir room with Blaine.

"We're the directors of the play, with Coach Beiste and Ms. Pillsbury." Artie tells her.

"Oh." Ashleigh says, sitting down in her chair.

"What do you say, Ash?" Artie asked.

"Uh, not this time. Sorry, guys. But you've got this, Artie. I believe in you." Ashleigh tells him.

In the staffroom, Will was making himself a coffee...

"You still make a mean cup of coffee?" Shelby asked.

"Shelby. What are... what are you doing here?" Asked Will.

"It's a teachers' lounge, isn't it? This is where all the teachers hang out." Shelby says.

"Yeah. Uh..." Will says.

"I'm a teacher here now. Well, part-time. You ever heard of this guy named Al Motta? They actually sent a headhunter to track me down in New York. Apparently, I am the best show choir director money can buy. Don't worry, I'm not going to poach any of your kids." Shelby says.

"I'm not worried about that, Shelby. It's Ashleigh. She's finally settled. She's got a boyfriend; she's doing really well in school, and I think seeing you could really unsettle her and be really hard on her." Will muttered.

"Yeah... I heard. The Warbler boy. I plan on reaching out to her." Shelby murmured.

"What about Puck and Quinn?" Will asked.

"Lima's where I made not one but two mistakes that have defined me. Lima's where I... I have to make things right with Ashleigh. I know that might sound impossible, but I have to try." Said Shelby.

Will signed.

With Quinn and her new friends, one of the girls was holding another student's head in the toilet...

"Give us your lunch money." Quinn said.

"We're hungry. We need something to barf back up."

The student held out the money to Quinn, and she took it.

Sue walked in as the student ran out.

"Skanks, I've gotta talk to this one alone." Sue says, pointing at Quinn.

They all walked out, leaving Quinn alone.

"First, smoking kills. Second, it really does make you look cooler, doesn't it?" Sue asked, taking the cigarette from her and tossing it into the toilet.

"Sorry, Coach, but you have no power over me 'cause I've got nothing left to lose." Quinn says.

"Look at yourself. If you ask me, you've never looked worse. You've lost your child, your boyfriend, and your rep. You know who I blame? The Glee Club." Said Sue.

"Thanks." Quinn tells her.

"What if I were to offer you the chance to get revenge on the Glee Club and become a star? My congressional campaign is producing a video. A day in the life of a girl from whom the arts stole everything. I think I've found my girl." Sue says.

"First, a few demands. I need thrift store couches under the bleachers. I've realised that after smoking all day, it hurts to stand." Quinn said.

"Fair enough. Quinn Fabray, you have a deal." Sue says, reaching around her, taking the money, and walking away.

Later that night, Brittany was with Kurt, looking over at the posters...

"We're gonna make 100,000 copies of each poster. Then we will get each student a swag bag full of this. We're gonna call it "Kurt Hummel's Bulging Pink Fun Sack." Brittany said.

"I... you know, I... don't know what to say." Kurt mumbled.

"That happens to me all the time. My lips move, but only dust comes out." Brittany tells him.

"I appreciate the enthusiasm, but, you know, it's all wrong. I think it's just, you know, a tad too..." Kurt muttered.

"Unicorn?" Brittany asked, shrugging her shoulders.

"Gay. I might as well have a big neon sign above my head that says "Gay-diddy-gay, g-gay-gay-gay!" Kurt shouted.

"You'll need an extension cord, but I love it." Brittany said.

"Babe, I'm joking." Kurt tells her.

"Next time you tell a joke, nudge me in the ribs or like honk a horn or something."

"I... I don't want to be just known as "Kurt Hummel, Homo." Kurt said.

"What's wrong with that? 99% of the kids at this school are either freaks or closet freaks. The captain of the football squad, he gets the job, but he doesn't represent the people. That's why we need a unicorn." Brittany says.

"And I agree with that sentiment. I just want something, you know, toned down a tad. I came up with a campaign poster. Ta-da! Hmm? It's understated yet elegant." Said Kurt.

The next morning, Puck and Quinn walked down the school corridor...

"I don't have time for this. Gotta meet the Skanks on the roof. Gonna throw ketchup-covered tampons on the marching band." Said Quinn.

Quinn stopped at the doorway of the classroom, seeing Shelby.

"You're back." Quinn murmured.

"Yeah, I went to New York. Thought I'd do it all, the whole working mother thing. When I was in rehearsal, even... even performing, I couldn't stop thinking about Beth... how I could miss her milestones, you know? Her first steps, first words, first arabesque." Shelby said.

"I get it." Quinn says.

"So when I got this job offer, I couldn't refuse. I've missed so many firsts in Rachel and Ashleigh's life. I was not about to do the same to Beth." Said Shelby.

"Neat story, but I'm late for a meeting on the roof." Said Quinn.

"Quinn, just listen to her." Puck tells her.

"Hey. Look. Ever since the day I gave Rachel and Ashleigh up for adoption, I have been walking through life searching for their faces everywhere I go, imagining what they were doing, what they may look like... I didn't want them separated; that's why, when I had Ashleigh... I asked Leroy and Hiram if they wanted Ashleigh too. I don't want you to go through what I went through. Part of me is back here because... because I want you to get to know Beth. I want you to be a part of her life." Shelby tells her.

"When do I get to see her?" Asked Quinn.

"Are you okay? What's going on with you? Are you even in Glee anymore?" Shelby asked.

"Did you just come here to torment me with the idea of seeing my child?" Quinn asked.

"Look, I want you to be a part of Beth's life, but not like this. If you're really serious about Beth, clean up your act." Shelby tells her.

"You think you can tell me what to do 'cause you signed a couple of papers? You're not her mom! I'm her mom!" Quinn shouted.

"Quinn..." Puck said.

"Me! So... you can pretend all you want, but that's something you are never going to be." Quinn tells her.

Back in the choir room, Will and Mike were dancing, and the others watched...

"I'm all for participating, but Shane says I'm more of a park-and-bark, and I tend to agree." Mercedes says.

"A what-and-what?" Finn asked.

"Park-and-bark. I stand center stage singing the notes no one else can while you guys dance around me." Mercedes said.

"Booty Camp is about all of you dancing, Mercedes, in unison. Look at Vocal Adrenaline. When they're in sync... one big terrifying machine... they're unstoppable. Mike, do your thing." Will says, pulling Ashleigh and Blaine up.

"I think you'll be a good Tony. Actually, a freaking good Tony. Finn, it looks like you're trying to shit." Ashleigh says, groaning loudly.

"Come on, Mercedes, blend. Ashleigh, perfect. Blaine, copy Ashleigh will ya." Mike says.

Ashleigh looked over at Blaine, smirking slightly.

"Copy me." Ashleigh said, pointing to herself.

"Maybe not, Tony. I'm thinking a senior should play that part." Said Blaine.

"Ashleigh! Jazz hands!" Will shouted.

Blaine laughed.

Later, Blaine and Ashleigh were in the auditorium looking over music sheets...

Ashleigh was making sounds with her voice, and Ashleigh looked up, seeing Shelby walking over.

"Your range is a lot better. It was impressive a year ago; it's even better now." Shelby said.

"Go away. This is a private rehearsal. Frankly, I don't want you here."

"What song are you rehearsing with? I'm gonna assume this is the boyfriend." Said Shelby.

"Yeah..." Blaine said, smiling at the woman slightly.

"Not your business. If you come here to ask me to hear you out... the answer's no. I owe you nothing." Ashleigh tells her.

"I never said you owed me anything..." Shelby says.

"Good, I don't. And I shouldn't be talking to you. The New Directions are my family, and family means something... at least to me." Said Ashleigh.

"Who is this, Ashleigh?" Blaine asked.

"No one of importance." Ashleigh said.

"I'm her biological mother..." Shelby tells him.

Blaine's mouth opened, and Blaine's eyes widened.

"Don't you dare! You don't get to say that to me. Do you understand me? You're not anything to me. You haven't been there for me. Nothing!" Ashleigh shouted.

"Ashleigh..." Shelby mumbled.

Ashleigh collected the music sheets.

"Ashleigh..." Shelby muttered.

"We have got to get back to rehearsal. Blaine, hand these to the band for me. Thank you." Ashleigh said.

"Somewhere there's a place for us." Shelby says.

"I just said that there wasn't. You're not my family, Shelby. Okay, yeah, you might have given birth to me, but that's all you've done." Said Ashleigh.

"I'm talking about the song. I've played Maria 18 times." Shelby tells her.

"Oh, good for you, Shelby, good for you." Ashleigh says, clapping her hands. "Because you've been nothing but a huge disappointment!"

"Somewhere" is the perfect audition song for you. You should do it." Shelby says.

"You wanna hear a song? Take a seat. Take a seat! Is this why you're here? You want me to sing you a song? Sit down; I've got the perfect song for you." Ashleigh tells her.

"I don't wanna hear you sing, Ashleigh... I want you to hear me out." Said Shelby.

"Well, I don't want to, Shelby! I don't wanna hear your excuses, your lies, your life story... I just want you to leave me alone. Okay?" Ashleigh asked, walking away from her.

Shannon, Emma, and Artie were in the auditorium...

After Rachel's performance, Ashleigh was standing on the stage...

Ashleigh stared at Shannon, Emma, and Artie.

"Ashleigh? Ashleigh, are you okay?" Shannon asked.

"Huh?" Asked Ashleigh.

"It's just that you've been standing there for a few minutes. Are you going to sing?" Asked Shannon.

"Uh, no. Sorry. I'm not. I need to go." Ashleigh tells them.

Ashleigh runs off the stage.

"Ashleigh! Come back!" Artie shouted.

Later, Sue and Becky were with Quinn...

"Quinn Fabray used to be on top of the world. She had it all. Now she walks the hallways of McKinley High, broken and alone. What happened to Quinn Fabray?" Sue asked.

"I got involved in the arts." Quinn said.

"After a long day of snorting Splenda and cutting class, she kills the pain the only way she knows how... smoking corn starch." Said Sue.

"Wait. What?" Quinn asked, taking the items from her locker and frowning slightly.

"Cut. The dummy couldn't remember her lines, Coach." Becky said.

A few minutes later, Will was in his office, and Will looked up, seeing Sue, Quinn, and Becky walking in...

"Just like we rehearsed it." Sue muttered.

"Mr. Schuester, I came here to give you a piece of my mind." Quinn said.

"What's going on here?" Will asked.

"Rolling."

"I used to have everything. Dated the quarterback of the football team. Was the captain of the Cheerios. I was the prettiest, most popular girl in school until I joined Glee Club, and then it all went to hell." Said Quinn.

"This is campaign dynamite." Sue says.

"I just want you to know that I'm never coming back
