CHAPTER FOUR
the magic wand
"theres so many flowers!"
MAL opened the door to the girls dorm room slowly, the pink haired girl peeking in before moving as Evie squeezed Madeline's hand in excitement.
Madeline could see Mal's face turn in disgust and Evie's mouth and eyes widen in joy. Madeline was just happy she was away from her mother. She never felt a bond with her.
As the girls entered, they could see the pink curtains blowing in the wind. They could see the light shining through the windows as Mal squinted and they could see the many flowers surrounding the room.
Madeline ran to the window with a grin meeting her lips, staring out in the garden at the variety of flowers as she counteddown the seconds she could wait before she jumped out the window in attempt to find a magic flower of some sort.
Evie gasped in amazement, a smile slowly forming on her lips. "Wow! This place is so amaz..."
"Gross." Mal interrupted her.
"I know right? Amazingly gross.. Ew." Evie trailed off, changing her answer to Mal's liking.
"I disagree, theres so many flowers.." Madeline mumbled as Evie smiled at the girl as she had guts to stick up to Mal.
"Your mother has gotten to your head Maddie.." Mal sang quietly while Madeline spun her head around, giving Mal a death glare that Evie had seen way too often. "Ugh.. Im going to need some serious sunscreen."
Mal then quickly pointed at the curtains signally Evie to close the pink drapes that stood to the side of each window Madeline was looking out at.
Evie walked over to Madeline, whispering a sorry before shutting the curtains on her.
"Hey! Just because its too bright for you doesn't mean you need to interrupt me!" Madeline groaned, spinning to face Mal who only replied with a fake smile at the black haired girl.
The large wooden door beeped as Mal opened the door to the boy's room, the pink haired girl grinning as this room was more suited to her than the small pink one.
Madeline looked over at the white haired boy, seeing him make theatrical noises to the game he was playing, the girl rolling her eyes as a slight smile appeared on her face.
"Jay what are you doing?" Mal asked as she spotted the boy unloading a bag of random gold and silver things, which he thought might be useful.
"It's called stealing." Jay said simply, grinning at the amount of things he had found.
"Woah! How'd you get so much?" Madeline exclaimed in question as she put her fist out in which the long haired boy returned with a fist of his own.
"Im slick. Duh?"
"Okay, whats the point?" Mal then asked, Madeline raising a brow at the girl.
"Well, Mal its like buying whatever I want, except its free."
"Okay. So, you can do that, or you could leave all of this here and pick it up when we take over the world!" Mal said happily as Madeline scoffed at how much she sounded like Maleficent.
"You sound just like your mum!" Evie said, voicing what Maddie was just thinking.
"Thank you!" Mal said as she put her hand to heart in happiness at the compliment.
"You do your way and I'll do it mine." Jay added as he smiled.
"Die suckers!" Carlos quickly shouted, turning around to only just notice that Madeline, Evie and Mal had entered the room before speaking again. "Jay, come check this thing out! Man, it's awesome!
The boy stepped down from the bar in front of the TV as Jay walked up to him, grabbing the sticks that Carlos offered to him with a determined look on his face.
The long haired boy quickly jumped into action, stepping onto the bar and ducking as a man came swinging at his character within the game. Evie and Maddie laughed at the action in which Carlos watched the dark haired girl intently.
"Guys!" Mal called out catching everyone's attention, Evie and Mal turning to the pink haired voice and the white haired boy following them. "Do I have to remind you what we're here for!?"
"Fairy Godmother... Blah, blah, blah. Magic Wand... Blah, blah, blah." Jay spoke, still playing his game but turning to Mal while speaking as she glared into his soul.
Evie laughed at the action alongside Carlos and Madeline spoke up to Mal. "He's not wrong.." she smirked at her.
"This is our one chance to prove ourselves to our parents." Mal burst, catching everyone eyes, Jay stopping his game and Evie, Carlos and Madeline fully turning to the girl. "To prove that we are evil and vicious and ruthless and cruel. Yeah?"
"Yeah.." Everyone mumbled back to her, afraid to upset her once again.
"Evie, mirror me." Mal said to the blue haired girl as she pulled out a chair, Evie and Madeline pulling one out either side of her as Evie grabbed the mirror from her handbag. Carlos looked over to his laptop he was given as he had entered the school while Jay stood in between Mal and Evie's chair giving a side glance to Madeline as he made sure she was ok.
"Mirror, mirror on the.." she trailed off. "In my hand. Where does Fairy Godmother's wand stand?" Evie asked the mirror as it flashed to a photo of the wand in a case. "There it is!"
"Zoom out." Carlos added as Evie nodded.
"Magic Mirror, not so close."
Evie held the mirror out so Madeline and Carlos could see from either end if the table.
"Closer.."
It slowly zoomed in.
"Closer.."
The mirror zoomed in even more.
"Closer.."
"Can i go back to my game, im on level three?" Carlos asked as Maddie glared at the boy not taking the hint.
It zoomed in once more.
"Stop!" Mal shouted at the mirror.
Carlos turned back around at the word.
"It's in a museum? Do we know where that is?" Madeline asked, looking at the mirror which showed a sign that read, 'The Museum Of Cultural History'.
Carlos quickly looked for an answer, typing into his laptop as it beeped, showing a destination. "2.3 miles from here." he then turned the laptop to face Mal and Madeline.
Mal chuckled at the words and ran towards the door, the four other VKs running after her.
Jay piled out the door after the pink haired girl, then Evie then Maddie. The group had made it half way down the hallway as Madeline felt no one behind her.
"Carlos!" she shouted as he jumped off the bar once again and snatched his jacket from a chair at the table.
"Coming!" he yelled back as he slid into his jacket, running down the hall to catch up to Maddie.
The VKs arrived at the Museum, Mal and Evie running side by side as Carlos, Madeline and Jay ran behind them.
"Come on." Mal whispered to the trio behind her, who caught up quickly as she came to a stop at the stairs. "Check your mirror." Mal told Evie as she started to panic.
"Is my mascara smudged!" Evie whisper yelled back.
"Yeah. And hey, while you're at it, why don't you see if you can find us the wand?" Mal replied back sarcastically.
"Hey! Don't freak her out like that, mascara smudges are a real thing!" Maddie yelled back, hitting the girl while Mal rolled her eyes and Evie checked her mirror for the wand.
"This way." Evie whispered as she strutted, the others following her.
They quickly found the entrance, Mal smiling as the quintet came face to face with Maleficent's spinning wheel through a glass door. The pink haired girl smirked at the sight of it, feeling as if it was a sign she was on the right track. She also spotted a security guard by it.
The quintet watched the guard for a few seconds before he swung around on his chair, the VKs ducking down as Carlos looked to the black haired girl beside him.
Mal slowly stood back up straight, seeing the guard face the cameras and her mother's spinning wheel once again. The VKs took it as a sign to follow the girls action, popping their heads up and looking through the glass.
"Thats... your mother's spinning wheel?" Jay chuckled as Carlos joined in.
"Yeah, it's kind of dorky." the boy said as Madeline hit the boy on his arm. He held it tightly as it stung from the slap.
"It's magic. It doesn't have to look scary.." Mal turned to the wheel again. She then pulled out her mother's spell book and flipped to a page. "Magic spindle do not linger. Make my victim prick a finger."
The guard just sat there staring at the spindle instead of touching it.
"Impressive.." Jay laughed again and Mal grew frustrated.
"I got chills." The white haired boy added, holding up his arm and Madeline glared at him once more.
"Shut up." she whispered at him as he rolled his eyes.
"Okay, you know what..." Mal disregarded what they said and looked at the book again trying to find another spell. "Prick the finger, prick it deep. Send my enemy off to sleep."
The guard got up this time, circling around the weapon and stared at the spindle. He rose his finger to the needle which sparked at his touch. His arms started to raise above his head as he yawned loudly. He then sat on the podium the spindle sat on and laid down, drifting off to sleep.
"Not so dorky now, huh?" Mal smirked as she went to open the door, shaking the knob as it didn't budge.
"Stand back.." Jay said and walked backwards as he got ready to launch at the wooden door
"Make it easy, make it quick, open up without a kick." Mal whispered the spell and the door flew open, leaving Jay to kick into the air where the door once was and land on his but.
The three girls starting laughing at the long haired boy as he rubbed his head, Mal kicking his back, Evie ruffling his beanie and Madeline shoving his shoulder.
Carlos saw the boy on the floor and ran to him, providing help with an extra arm. "Come on, Jay."
"Im good." He denied the help and stood up himself, walking to the girls as Carlos scoffed.
"Just tryna help."
Mal ran past her mother spindle, grinning at it happily and shushing the other VKs who all nodded at her. They all admired the artefacts that hung on the walls around the room, their parents having told them all the stories that had happened in Auradon before being locked up.
The guard then began to yawn and turn over, Jay and Madeline running away as Carlos froze in fear.
"Carlos!" Maddie yelled to the boy who looked into the distance.
"Coming!" he whispered as he tried creeping past the guard, succeeding.
Evie started to lead the group down a few halls, the VKs running behind her with smiles on their faces at the smell of success being within distance.
"So close!" Evie whispered to the four behind her, leading up another staircase, accompanied by a plaque that wrote 'Gallery of Villains' which none of them saw.
"Go, go, go!" Mal ushered them up the stairs, Madeline following Jay and Carlos following the girl.
"Up, up, up, up, up!"
"Come on guys. Almost there."
Evie then lead them to a dark room that glowed off blue, Madeline and Carlos stopping after Evie and Jay had in front of them, Mal slowly catching up.
They then paused, seeing figures all too familiar. The quintet all walked up to the figures slowly, gulping down their nerves as they were in this together.
5 statues stood in front of the quintet, representing something they had all left back at the Isle. Their parents.
Madeline's heartbeat grew faster at the sight of the 5 villians, not because she was scared of them but rather because it reminded her a bit too much of home.
Mother Gothel's statue stood beside Cruella's, Maddie almost feeling bad at how horrible they portrayed her mother.
She was standing straight in her iconic crimson-red dress which went down to her ankles. The woman was holding a bright yellow flower as she held a smirk on her face, the statue not represnting any of the wrinkles she had earned while being on the Isle, as the power of the flower her mother had found, lessened due to the Isle's barrier.
"Mommy?" Evie spoke, snapping Madeline out of her haze.
Madeline looked to the other statue's spotting The Evil Queen with her crown on her head while holding her signature poison apple high in the air. The woman was wearing her bright blue dress along with her heart pendant.
"Killer." Jay soon said after the blue haired queen, Maddie's attention turning to Jafar's replica.
The man had his tall hat sitting firmly on top of his head as he struck a pose like an animal playing dead. He was also held his long staff with his attire being spot on based on Mother Gothel's stories about him as well as what the man had told Maddie himself. God that man never shut up about Aladdin.
"Ill never forget Mother's Day again."
Then Madeline's attention turned to Cruella's model, the statue not getting her face perfect from all the days she had spent seeing her. The curly haired woman held a pose as to scare away animals while a Dalmatian dog was placed below her, showing that she was cruel towards them. She also suited her villian attire, wearing a white coat and polka dot layerings underneath. Madeline shuddered at the figure.
"Mother.." Madeline then spoke as Mal stayed silent, continuing to look at her own mothers figure.
Maddie then turned to look at Maleficent's statue quickly, which was front and centre. The woman had her iconic black horns that stood on top of her head along with her sceptre which she was holding up high. She was then covered in her black gown, not being able to see any of her skin as she appeared dark and scary to others.
"Well, the wand's not here. Let's bounce." Jay said, collecting Evie, Carlos and Maddie's attention and then turned to run out of the room, all teens still a bit creeped out by the statues and the way they portrayed their parents.
They all left, leaving Mal staring up at her mother with a stone cold face. She didn't know how to feel at how her mother was portrayed. Good that people feared and hated her or bad because people really did fear and hate her. It freaked her out that she was thinking of someone else's opinion for once, that never happening to the girl unless it was about her friends.
She slowly began to walk to the figure, still glancing up at it in fear. Maleficent's voice rang in her head, 'The future of the free world rests on your shoulders' she spoke to her daughter. 'Don't blow it'
"Look at you, look at me, I don't know who to be. Mother.." Mal sang as she stared at her mother in sadness, confused on what to do in Auradon. Does she give the new life a chance our take over the world like her mother told her to do.
"Is it wrong, is it right, be a thief in the night. Mother.. Tell me what to do.." Mal finished as Evie rounded the corner searching for the girl.
"Mal.. Come on!" she said to the pink haired girl who took one last look at her mother.
The statue then turned into flames and Maleficent came to life as she cackled, Mal jumping slightly at the sight in font of her. "Don't be so serious, darling. Im sorry.." her mother laughed as Mal looked at her, confused and eyes wide.

"Hey!" Evie called to the girl. "I found the wand! Lets go!"
Mal turned back to the statue once more and her eyes wide. She then quickly backed away and followed Evie to the magic wand.
The quintet all came to a brightly lit room with a fence in the middle surrounding the wand as they all gaped at it in amazement. They all looked down in surprise of it actually being right below them.
"There it is!" Madeline called and the VKs looked at each other in excitement. Carlos smiled at Maddie who smiled right back as they might make their parents proud for once.
"Whoo!" Jay yelled as Madeline smiled at the boy who ran off to find the way downstairs.
"Yeah!" Maddie called after him and following him down a stairway, the other teens chasing after them.
They quickly found it in a beam of light as Jay grinned at it wide. He circled around it as the other VKs stood around it as-well. The long haired boy looked ready to pounce at it and the others noticed, their eyebrows all raising.
Jay ducked under the railing and Mal went into action.
"Jay, dont!" she yelled as Maddie nodded.
"Listen to her Jay.." the shorter girl seethed through her teeth. "You could trigger an alarm!"
Jay grinned at their anger towards his action, ducking fully under the rail and holding his arm out to the wand trying to grab it.
"Wait, no! No! Dont!" Mal yelled at the boy as he stuck his hand through the light beam.
Well, attempted to.
The light deflected Jay as he bounced backwards into the railing and triggering an alarm. The VKs all covered their ears as the noise got loud quickly. Mal screamed as Carlos looked over at Maddie to see her and Evie clutching onto one another as the alarm blared.
"A force field and a siren!" Carlos yelled in frustration.
"Thats just a little excessive." Jay added as he crawled up from the floor.
"I told you so!" Madeline yelled back as she groaned in annoyance.
"Let's go!" Mal yelled to the others, the VKs following her away from the wand.
The started to pile down the stairs, as Mal yelled at them to hurry.
They continued to run to the entrance and past Maleficent's spindle once again as Maddie held her eyes from the alarm still blaring. They started to pile out of the Museum as a phone rang at the guard's desk.
Carlos picked up the phone, answering it with a hello and smiling as he heard a voice on the other end. "Uh.. just give me one second. One second"
The boy then started to type a code into some machine as the alarm began to stop as Madeline smiled at the alarm disappearing.
"Yeah, yeah. No false alarm. It was a malfunction in the Lm 714 chip in the breadboard circuit. Yeah, okay. Say hi to the missus." Carlos chuckled as he placed the phone down with a smile.
"Carlos!" Evie yelled to the missing boy who stopped in his track at the girls voice.
"You're welcome!?" he spoke sarcastically, rolling his eyes at the absence of a thank you.
They all started to run from the Museum at the sight of Carlos catching up as Mal groaned.
"Way to go Jay! Now, we have to go to school!"
