"Oh, come on, he's just a friend of mine..." (1085 words)

"I can't believe you're making me do this," Nyck muttered under his breath as he trudged through the packed snow; trying to catch up to his girlfriend – who was already ready to shred. They were currently on a little vacation to one of the most famous ski/snowboarding resorts in Davos; Y/N wanted to introduce Nyck to the daredevil and adrenaline-filled sport that was snowboarding. "What if I break my arm? Y/N, I have at least a month left before I have to fly out to Abu Dhabi!"
"Just shut up, will you?" Y/N yelled back at her boyfriend with a chuckle towards the end. "I'll be by your side the entire time, I promise." She shook her head at Nyck as he made his way up the snowy hill, wanting to get it over and done with. "And, I promise you, you will not injure yourself, got it?"
The Dutchman sighed reluctantly and nodded his head as he adjusted his snow goggles. Looking at the beautiful overlook in front of him, Nyck took a deep breath and looked at his surroundings one last time before he heard Y/N tell him to go. He got his feet strapped onto the snowboard; looking down at the course in front of him and mentally got himself ready. Feeling Y/N give him a little nudge, he got himself down the slope and found himself starting to get the hang of it.
"Woohoo! This is so exciting," Nyck yelled at the top of his lungs as he started to fully glide down the hill gracefully, "why was I so scared to do this?"
"Everybody feels scared at first when they do it, Nyck," Y/N yelled back in a short answer as she maintained her own focus on the terrain in front of her; not wanting to lose track of what was ahead. "You're doing great so far, keep doing it!"
He came to a full-stop as soon as he saw the finish line and created a mess of snow; which caught onto Y/N. She screeched in giggles as she felt the snow cling onto her snowboarding gear.
"You didn't have to shower me with snow," she rolled her eyes as soon as she also got down to the bottom of the hill. "Which, by the way, made me freeze for a second, but I'm fine now."
Nyck rolled his eyes as he brought Y/N into his warm self and warmed her up before she laughed and pulled away from his embrace.
"Woah, heads up!" Y/N and Nyck heard someone shout, which made them both get out of the way for the snowboarder to get to where they were. "Oh, thank goodness I didn't crash into any of you guys." The mystery person lifted their goggles up and Y/N could immediately tell by his familiar green eyes as to who it was.
"McMorris, it's nice to see you again!" Y/N had a smile on her face as soon as she realized who was in front of her. It was indeed, Mark McMorris, a good family friend of hers. They were good friends from childhood, but they soon lost touch due to Mark advancing in his snowboarding career and Y/N focused on her studies and goals to study for her preferred major.
"L/N! I didn't even recognize it was you," Mark also smiled as he brought his childhood friend in for a hug and soon let her go. "You're right, it has to be more than ten years since I last saw you."
"Has it been that long?" Y/N was shaken by the fact that she had not seen him in the past ten years. "Anyways, how are you doing? I heard from your family that you had a terrifying accident back in the Canadian backcountry."
"I was lucky to heal from those pretty traumatizing injuries," he drew out a sigh as he remembered the horrible crash he endured. "But, other than that, I've been doing well; I have my mind and heart set for the Olympics coming up in just a few months." Mark noticed Nyck standing awkwardly to himself and thought he should introduce himself, "oh, it's so rude of me and I apologize for that! My name's Mark McMorris. Her family and my family are friends with each other, so that's how I know her. And you must be her boyfriend..."
"Nyck. Nyck de Vries," the Dutchman had a smile on his face as he introduced himself to the Canadian snowboarder. "It's nice to meet you, Mark."
"Oh, you're more than welcome to call me Sparky," Mark laughed and waved it off as his eyes took in the surroundings around before he heard someone call his name. "Oh, that would be Darcy calling me; I have to go. It's nice to see you again, Y/N and it was nice to meet you, Nyck." He quickly said his goodbyes and shook hands with them before he rushed back to where his friends were.
---
"Alright, you haven't spoken a word to me since we were snowboarding." Y/N spoke up with an accusing tone in her voice as she looked over at her boyfriend. "Is something bothering you?"
"Did you ever have feelings for Mark?" He spat out what was bugging his mind and looked over at his girlfriend, who immediately shook her head and laughed. "No, I mean, did you have romantic feelings for him?"
"Oh, come on, Nyck, he's just a friend of mine." She chuckled to herself and shook her head in a serious manner as her bright E/C eyes gazed into Nyck's worry-filled brown eyes. "He's like a brother to me, I'm telling you the honest truth, I've never had any type of romantic feelings for him."
"Really?" He asked like a little kid at the candy store, which made Y/N laugh and kisses him on the lips.
"Because I love only you and nobody else, Nyck de Vries."
"I love you too, Y/N L/N..."
