I heard a window shatter and sat up in bed. My heart was already pounding and I ran to the hallway.

"Luna, get back in your room. Rogues breached the perimeter. We're under attack." Adam said.

"I'm coming with you."

"No-" he stopped and I knew he was having trouble with all the conversations happening through the pack link.

Alphas had the ability to keep them all straight with names and messages, but he didn't as a guard. I could, if I mated and had this pack link, but again, I was technically destined to be an alpha and had that ability, Adam didn't.

"Luna. Stay here."

Adam left before I responded and I knew he shifted before he reached the stairs.

Why were they attacking us? Was it just bad luck? Why couldn't Caden be here- I heard a scream and the pitch told me it was a child, a very young girl.

Out of instinct I ran to the voice and saw a rogue jumping out the window as I came in the room. I saw a little girl bleeding out as she cried by her mom. Her mom wasn't responsive and she could barely move. I picked up the little girl but she cried out for her mom, "Don't worry, we won't leave her, I'll send someone to get her, okay?"

"Mommy!"

"Hey, hey, we have to be quiet okay? And you have to try to relax for me please? Can you do that princess?" After two flights of stairs I made it to the pack doctors room and sent a guard to get her mom.

The doctor patched her up as her mom came in still unconscious in the guards arms.

"Thank you," I said as he went to leave again.

"No problem Luna."

I smiled appreciatively before he left. The doctor gave the girl something to put her under and I left the room to see everyone scattered and rogues fighting all over. We had more pack members than the rogues had, but without Caden and our best fighters there wasn't much time before we didn't.

I carried several people to the doctors room, young and older, and luckily there hadn't been many casualties.

My wolf started stirring and whimpering for Caden but I tried to get her to stop. It felt like he was closer though, maybe it was wishful thinking. Then I felt something cold against my neck and a gruff voice by my ear, "Well, Luna," He said it like venom, "Your mate shouldn't have left, now he's going to come back to a dead Luna. Poor little Alpha," he started chuckling in a wild crazy high pitched way and at the same time I heard Caden let out a howl as the knife slit my skin.

My vision went blurry and I fell to the ground gasping for air.
