Makoto eyed Haru, watching his every move. Since Makoto has known Haru for such a long time, he could practically read Haru's face. Concentrated, Makoto continued to awkwardly stare at the male, who sat on the floor, in front of him. He's thinking about it, Makoto thought. His eyes widened, he's showing a strong emotion. Something took him by surprised. He's taking another bite! He's smiling, that me-
"It's delicious," Haru cut off Makoto's thoughts, his mouth full of the mackerel. "I didn't know you were such a good cook."
Makoto gave a sigh of relief, and dug into his own dish. It's a bit over seasoned. The taste doesn't linger. I'll fix that next time I cook, Makoto thought, giving himself mental notes. He looked at Haru, who was clearly enjoying his meal. Well, all that really matters is that Haru likes it, right? All I really want is to please Haru...
Makoto paused. Wait, what's all this 'All that matters is that Haru likes it', 'All I want is to please him'? Makoto what's with your gay thoughts? You don't date men.
"It's late, we should really go to sleep," Haru said, snapping Makoto out of his thoughts. "Your college year starts in a few weeks, right?"
"Oh, yea," Makoto nodded. He took the empty plates and forks onto the counter, since there was no trash can or any other way of disposal.
Makoto and Haru unrolled their sleeping bags and fell asleep in the living room. It was the most comfortable place for the both of them right now. Man, I can't wait to start a life in Tokyo with my best friend, Makoto thought, as he drifted off to sleep.
---
Haru was usually the first one up. Without a bathtub, he saw no reason to linger around. Besides, they just moved in and Haru needed to unpack before the truck comes in with the furniture. He dragged his luggage into the short hallway. He inspected the rooms, and carefully thought out who should get which room.
Knowing Makoto, he probably gave me the bigger room, Haru sighed. He didn't want the bigger room. He preferred a small, clean room. Well if I begin unpacking in the smaller room, there's no way Makoto would object, since everything would be set in stone.
Quickly, Haru began unpacking all of his belongings into the smaller room. He put everything on the floor, since there weren't any shelves, and hung his clothes in the closet. Hours passed, but Haru felt as if it had merely been minutes. He heard footsteps coming his way.
"Haru?! You were suppose to get the bigger bedroom," Makoto whined, leaning on the door frame.
"Well you're younger than me, and you brought more stuff so I thought maybe you should have the bigger room." Haru said.
"But stilll," Makoto sighed. He took a look at Haru, who continued unpacking, not caring what Makoto was doing. "But thank you,"
With that, Haru stopped unpacking and looked up at Makoto.
"For considering how I would feel and how you believed a bigger bedroom was better for me," Makoto gave Haru a smile and walked off.
Haru's heart skipped a beat. He stopped unpacking, and listened to the sounds of Makoto, who was in the other room, unpacking his own belongings. I should go over, Haru looked around his room, I've finished unpacking most of my stuff. Besides, when the movers come in with the furniture, I don't want my stuff to get in the way. Haru got up and went over to Makoto's room.
"Do you need help?" Haru asked, startling Makoto.
"I'm fine. I don't want to unpack that much, since the movers are coming in with the furniture and all." Makoto replied with a hearty smile.
We think so much alike, Haru thought, his heart skipping a beat once more. We would be so perfect for each other...
Haru's chain of thoughts were cut off by the obnoxious sound of the new doorbell. Makoto and Haru rushed over to the door. Makoto unlocked the door and greeted the movers, who brought with them huge boxes.
Thankfully, we aren't in one of those movies where the movers are late and everybody has to struggle without furniture for the next few weeks or so, Haru thought, trying to forget the part that he and Makoto were the ones that had to unpack everything.
Makoto and Haru watched as the piles of boxes, in the living room, got bigger and bigger. Makoto forced a weak smile.
"Well, at least I can unpack with you, right?" Makoto exclaimed, trying to break the silence between them.
Haru nodded. He was busy planning out how his room should look, where to put the bed and such. Now, the movers began bringing in bigger furniture, like the beds and the sofa set. Makoto rushed over to help them by explaining where the beds should go and such.
Haru stood there and sighed. He had so much work ahead of him. Could he finish all of this in less than a month? Already stressed, Haru began thinking about his future. I got scholarship for a college that focused mostly on swimming, Haru recalled, remembering the time a scout called for him. That university isn't that far. Makoto's university isn't that far as well. But we also need to get jobs! We can't sustain a life without income. Besides, Makoto deserves the best, and if he has to go through hardships, he doesn't deserve to be with me.
Haru watched Makoto help out the men. Makoto turned around and smiled at Haru, then continued to work. God he's so selfless. He's really kind and caring, Haru sighed. Things like these makes me want to.... Haru abruptly stopped, realizing what he was thinking. Where do all these sexual thoughts keep coming from? Why do I feel the need to kiss this guy? This can't be love, can it? No, it's not. I can't love him, he's just a childhood friend. Maybe that's why! Maybe the reason why I feel this urge to touch him is because we're really close! That explains why I don't feel that way towards Rin, or the swim team. Haru breathed a sigh of relief.
"Haruu! Come take a look at your room!" Makoto exclaimed with excitement.
Haru ran over to look. His room was perfect! The bed wasn't against a corner, but rather against the middle of the left wall. His two nightstands both stood on either side of his bed. His dresser was put next to his closet. His desk was next to the door, along with his chair. A 5-shelf bookshelf was found next to his desk. That was exactly how he imagined it!
Man, Makoto can really read my mind, like a piece of paper, Haru thought, unable to control his smile. Makoto looked cautiously at Haru, waiting for an answer.
"Well?" Makoto asked, as the movers left.
"It's amazing," Haru said, breathlessly. "I can't believe you can read my mind so well!"
"Well, after year and years of being your best friend, what do you expect?"
Haru couldn't control himself. He ran over and gave Makoto a really big hug. He felt his cheeks warming up, and his heart beating faster and faster. Haru what are you doing. You're being gay. Haru stop holding him. Haru why are you enjoying it? Haru?!
Haru tried to ignore his thoughts. Or was he trying to ignoring the urge to hug Makoto? Whatever, it didn't matter to him. Haru began snuggling into Makoto's big body. It was so soft and warm. He was surprised when he felt two big arms return the embrace. I think, I think I'm in love, Haru sighed, blushing to himself.
W-Wait just a minute! What did I just say? Me, in love with Makoto? Ha, that's hilarious. Haru, you're a man, you can't love him! You really need to get your life straight. Haru, repeat after me: you are NOT in love with Makoto. God, stop being so gay.
Haru pushed himself away from Makoto. He didn't even want to look up at him. If he did, he would fall for him again. He didn't want to separate himself from Makoto, but he didn't want to love him either. The thought of being gay scared Haru.
"I-I'll go make lunch," Haru mumbled, and walked out of his dream bedroom. He took a peak at Makoto's bedroom. His bed was pushed into the corner, his bookshelf next to his desk. He only had one nightstand, except he put his next to the door. His dresser was against a wall. For some reason, that look fits him, Haru nodded in satisfactory.
Haru looked at the mountain of boxes that blocked his way to the kitchen, and sighed. There was absolutely no way for him to cook lunch without the necessary cooking materials, along with the uncleaned room.
"I saw that coming," giggled a voice behind him. "Here, lemme help you clean up a bit."
