Chapter 12 » I could have totally tapped that
"Hurry" I whispered to Scott.
"We'll keep watch" Lydia said.
I leant against the wall, a grin playing at my lips. "Liam and Hayden are cute"
"Mini Scott and Allison"
I smiled. "That's what I told Scott"
Lydia laughed. "I remember the first time Allison asked me who he was. I had no clue. But then we all got to know each other and I watched them fall in love. They were so good together"
I nodded in agreement, remembering the way they were when I became friends with them. "I thought they were going to last forever"
"Me too. I guess things don't always work out the way you plan"
"I guess not"
The two of us stood in comfortable silence.
I was thinking about Isaac and I not working out. Which led me to remembering catching that scent at the memorial place. And the flowers.
"A couple of days ago, did you put flowers on Allison's grave?"
"No. I haven't been for ages. Why?"
"I went to visit and there were fresh flowers. Usually, someone mentions when they've been so we don't overload it with flowers but nobody said anything"
"Weird"
"I know. You know what else was weird? When I was there, it felt like someone was watching me. I stood up and they noticed me and turned away but I caught a scent"
"Who was it?"
"Isaac"
"Isaac? No way. If he was back he would have come seen us by now"
"I know. Maybe it was just someone wearing the same cologne or something. It was just weird, you know. The fact that someone was watching. Kinda put me off going"
"I always feel weird when I go" Lydia admitted. "It just doesn't seem right, you know. It's been over a year and everything still seems wrong. Like it shouldn't have happened"
I shook my head. "It shouldn't have happened"
"It feels good to talk about her" Lydia spoke up after a couple of moments of silence.
"It does. I had this conversation with Scott earlier. I just think that everyone was so afraid to mention her that we didn't talk about her enough. It's okay to want to talk. We all have memories of her"
Lydia giggled. "Remember that time the three of us went shopping"
"That was horrific. I think we both wanted to murder you by the end of the day"
"Come on I didn't take you into that many shops" she defended.
"You so did. You made us watch as you tried on the most revealing clothes ever" I laughed. "And then you were all like 'do you think Jackson will like this?'"
"I can't believe I dated him"
"Me neither. You were far too good for him" I commented.
"You were too good for Isaac"
I shrugged. "I guess we both suck at finding decent guys"
"That's why I am totally over high school boys"
"Is deputies the new thing now?" I teased.
"Woah what?"
"You and Parrish" I nudged her. "It's cute. I mean at first I found it a little weird because of the age difference. But he takes care of you, I like that"
Lydia looked away from me but I could still see the grin on her face.
"Come on, you're Lydia Martin. You deserve to be treated like a queen. Parrish does. He respects you. I approve"
"I never would have thought a Hale would ever say something that nice"
"And I never thought I'd be friends with a high schools Queen Bee but look where we're at" I grinned.
"I'm so glad I met you" she smiled.
"You know, we only met because I bumped into Allison that time and she offered to show me around. I mean, we would probably have crossed paths anyway because I was friends with Scott and Stiles but still- I like to thank Allison for our friendship"
"I was so threatened by you. I thought you were going to come in and steal my top spot. Steal Jackson-"
I cut her off. "That very nearly almost happened"
"You kissed once" Lyds reminded.
"He was so into me. It was after you broke up anyway so I could have totally tapped that"
"But you didn't" she pointed out.
"Yeah because I didn't want to hurt you"
"Wow you actually had a conscience back then?"
"Ha ha" I said half-heartedly. "Yeah despite the resting bitch face, I totally had feelings"
"The resting bitch face that is still present even today?"
"Oh you're just full of compliments Lydia Martin" I laughed.
"Aren't I always" she chuckled, looking down at her phone. She frowned. "Hey, Scott's been gone a while"
"You're right it's been ages. He should have been back by now"
"Think one of us should go find him?"
I nodded. "I'll go. You stay here"

I was heading round the corridor when I saw the wolf.
The dark fur was easily recognisable.
"Mom?" I blurted, following the enigmatic wolf. I was running to catch up to her. "Mom wait! Mom!"
I reached her just as she transformed into her human form.
"Shay"
Tears welled in my eyes as I pulled my mother into a hug.
"Mom. You're here" I touched her shoulders, checking her over; still not believing she was really here. "Why are you here?"
"I need to do something" she replied.
"Can I help?"
"Yes. Yes you can"
Before I could even react, her claws were out.
She dug them into my chest and I screamed in pain.
"Mom!"
I could feel her claws scraping against the flesh and bone inside my body.
I cried out in pain, begging her to stop.
I felt a weight being lifted from my chest and I looked over at my mother in shock.
"You won't be needing this anymore" she held up my heart, the blood dribbling down her hand and on to the floor.
I gasped, my hands instinctively finding their way to the the hole in my chest.
She reached her hand out and pushed me down the stairs.
I was falling.
I was waiting for the impact but it didn't come.
Instead there was a sharp sting on my face.
"What the fuck!" I yelled and jumped up. "Holy shit I'm alive" I reached out to touch my chest and realised there was no blood. "It was just a hallucination?" I frowned, feeling slightly breathless. Then I touched my stinging cheek. "Hang on, Malia what the hell? Did you slap me!"
"I'm sorry. You wouldn't wake up and you were screaming and I had to do something"
"Well thanks" I said as she pulled me up. "Have you seen Scott on your travels?"
"No?"
"Okay, maybe he came back. Come on"
The two of us made our way back to the locker room only to find it empty.
Lydia hadn't been waiting outside either.
"Liam?" I called out. "Hayden?"
"Hayden!" I heard Malia shouting. "Liam!"
"This isn't funny guys!" I yelled, feeling increasingly more worried with every second that passed. "Liam!"
"What's going on?" Lydia ran in.
"Liam and Hayden, they're not here" I said, heading over to my friend. "Where did you go?"
"I-um. I heard you screaming so I went to find you but I had this crazy hallucination"
"So did I" I frowned.
"Me too" Malia piped up.
"Do you think Scott is having one too? That's why we can't find him?"
I looked around the empty room.
I heard footsteps pounding down the corridor and spun around to see, speak of the devil, Scott and Mason entering the room.
"They're gone" Lydia said.
I looked at Scott. "Hayden and Liam are gone."
