[ok, I've wanted to write for this fella for a while...]

Subcon was always a place to be avoided.

That was practically common knowledge to you at this point.

No one wanted to end up missing like everyone who went into that cursed place.

Well almost everyone...

They were the one person who you didn't exactly have a choice when dealing with, and the only person you knew who had gone into that starlit forest and lived to tell the tale of a noodle-like ghost with a jack o' lantern face.

That kid with the hat, who everyone called Hat Kid.

She had basically dragged you to her spaceship one day and now you were her friend and basically the only adult figure in her recklessly lived life.

Usually you spent you time cleaning up after her and helping the Rumbi get unstuck of corners it magically seemed attracted to.

When Hat Kid would get back from that day's quest, usually bringing a magic hourglass with her, she'd tell you all about the place she visited. You could describe the Alpine Skyline in detail that didn't seem possible considering you'd even never been there, Dead Bird Studios was a place you could probably infiltration and not get caught from her descriptions of the birds, Mafia town sounded like a horrible place to live if you hate eating fish and the smell of the ocean, but Subcon Forest was what terrified you most when you heard about it.

You had been told all your life, living in a small village off the map of the planet rather close by to the dark place, to never accidentally enter or even think of trespassing in Subcon Forest.

So when the child with the hat told you that she went there and lost her soul to a ghost, you panicked.

She was fine a few days later, got her soul back and everything, but the thought that someone COULD do that terrified you.

She told you that you'd be fine to wander and investigate the forest as long as you stayed clear of her new BFF's traps for poor wandering souls. She told you that they were circles of purple thorns and that in the event you were put under contract, she'd have "a word with the noodle." She had said this holding her umbrella in a threatening manner.

Something told you this wasn't a willing friendship.

So now you were here. Subcon Forest, feeling like you were going to die any second.

You had made sure that Hat Kid had told Snatcher what she had told you, and introduced you to Snatcher just in case you weren't as careful as you should've been.

So now that we've established where exactly in your planet you are, let's talk about what you're doing.

Exploring a dangerous forest is no simple thing. That is, unless you're an alien child with magic hats.

You aren't.

You had made it to a dark and rather sad area full of castle like structures. It felt far more blue and way darker than any other area in the forest. Whether that was due to the canopy of the trees or the amount of buildings was unclear to you.
But at one spot at the bottom of a sharp not very tall cliff side was a beautiful view of the moon. You had probably been staring at the space rock for twenty minutes now and it kind of felt like it was staring back.

Leaving now would mean you lose the staring contest you had started with it or something.

Maybe it was just a very intense stare down and leaving would mean something horrible would happen to you.

Which was weird because... every instinct in you felt like maybe you should just go back to the ship with Hat Kid and Rumbi, call it a day, never come back here again. All that jazz.

But you didn't. Because you were too busy staring at a moon you had barely seen before, aside from when you were literally in space.

Gasp shock and awe, you can see the moon of a planet that rotates at the same rate it's moon revolves around it from space. Which is to say it doesn't.
Because this planet doesn't rotate. That is why it is always around two o' clock in Mafia Town and a beautiful night full of stars in Subcon Forest. You had grown up in a dusky light, so saying you never knew both was a lie, you just never saw the extremes before Hat Kid brought you with her.

Finally looking away from the space rock orbiting the planet as a twig snaps behind you, you're forced to run as a headless statue comes after you.

But someone was sad to see you go. It felt as though someone finally saw them.

You ended up running to a broken down, well furnished room with no walls, where the statue had chased you to the top of the fireplace.
Good thing you didn't weigh that much. This would break if any more pressure was put on it.

Then you'd be dead.

How you were going to get down and tell Hat Kid to come get you, you had no idea.

So for now you just looked at the headless statue with horror, pulling yourself as tight as you could in a ball on the mantle beside a crown, so it couldn't grab your leg or anything.

But you were awestruck when a few black threads wrapped around the statue and tossed it away. [before you get made at me his strings were originally black and the fandom made them red.]

"There." Said a voice from behind and above you, "That deals with that nuisance."

You were a little too scared to say anything. And by that I mean you were a lot too scared to say anything.

That is... without screaming...

"It's alright dear, I won't hurt you." The voice seemed to be trying to soothe you, but the fact that whoever it was turned their attention to you after chucking a heavy stone statue at least 100 feet away with incredible speed and ease scared the crap out of you.

You've never been the type to expect nice things from people who help you. And you had often been right to assume they wanted something later and brought their help back to prove they deserve it.

You looked up to maybe be able to see the figure, and were surprised when your gaze was met with the kind gaze of a glitching phantom staring back at you with wide red eyes.

"Hello." They wave a three fingered shackled hand of their corpse-like body missing a pair of legs.

You nearly squeaked in fear, for you couldn't decide if one of their eyes was also a mouth because it almost looked as though it had teeth.

Noticing your fear, their small smile seemed to turn to a concerned frown.
"I won't hurt you." They tilt their head and come a little closer to you, but seeing as you can't move any further back since you are literally about to fall if you do, you don't move at all.

Maybe they'll just go away...

Yeah you can dream, but it never works...

Finally managing to blink, you realize that they seem to be waiting for you to calm down before saying anything else.

"Hello." They smile at you once again as your initial shock seems to die down, "I couldn't help but see you as you were looking at the moon just now."

Oh! Was he the one you felt staring back?

Clearly he seems to read your expression and introduces himself.

"I am the Moonjumper. I live upon the Horizon over Subcon Forest and can observe the many things within it." He explains, somewhat bowing as he does.

"I'm (Y/N). I've been stuck living with the kid with the purple top hat on her spaceship." You briefly explain who you are as well, though it was probable that the Moonjumper already knew this.

"Well it is very nice to make your acquaintance (Y/N)." The Moonjumper's smile seemed to widen upon hearing you speak, "May I ask what interested you with the Horizon?"

"Well it's a little hard to see the moon from anywhere, except this forest or space," You begin, "so looking at it was originally what I was doing. Then I think I could tell you were staring at me."

"You'll have to forgive me for that. It is not common that one can tell I am watching." He seemed bashful at your words.

"Well if you live in the sky where no one can really see you then I'm not too surprised." You look away slightly, feeling some of your nerves come back.

"Well yes. Actually I-" The pale blue figure cut himself off, looked in the direction of the "King of Subcon"'s house, and seemed to disappear instantly.

You continued to stare in confusion at the spot he was just in until you heard the voice of the hatted child calling out for you as she ran through the trees.

She really has the worst timing doesn't she.

Getting down from the fireplace, you looked up into the canopy of the trees to see if you could see the strange, legless figure. When you couldn't you looked towards the child sprinting up to you, wearing her favorite Sprint Hat.

"(Y/N)!" Hat Kid cheered as she ran around the strangely decorated room up to you in front of the fireplace.

"How happy was..." You look over towards Snatcher's house then down at the child, "to hear you yelling for me."

"He told me to shut up at least six times!" Hat Kind tells you with an enormous grin on her face, "Anyways, it's bedtime!" She dons a serious face.

Bedtime was a serious matter after all.

"Alright, let's get going." You take her hand and let her guide you away to a spot to head back up to the ship.

Looking up to the sky one more time, you spot the glitching figure waving at you as the child drags you away.

You smile.

You'd have to come back here sometime.
