"Come on Ty you've gotta go." Haley pleaded as they walked down the hall towards their class.

"Why? It's not like I have anyone to go with and I don't even like school dances." Tyler said. He just wanted the conversation to end already.

"It's not just any school dance, it's prom. You won't even be alone, you'll have me and Ashley and Josh. It'll be fun." She continued to beg.

"Haley, do you really think that's a good idea? Josh and I together at prom?" Of course he and Josh still hung out together with their friends and at school but other than that they hadn't really talked after the break up and Tyler sure as hell didn't think prom would be a good idea.

"It'll be fine. You guys talk at school and stuff, you'll have Ashley and I. Come on, please." She asked with puppy eyes and a jutted out lip.

Tyler sighed. "Fine but if this isn't the best night of my life I'm holding you responsible." He said giving her a small shove.

Tyler already knew he was going to hate this night. The school gym had been decorated to fit some vintage sort of theme and it was filled with seniors. He walked through the crowded gym, weaving his way through all the couples. He quickly found Haley, Ashley and Josh. He still felt awkward being around Josh even though it had been nearly three months but Haley was right, it was his senior prom and he was going to enjoy himself.

They hung out for the majority of the night and Tyler actually had a good time. Pete and Patrick danced with them for a while and so did Brendon and Dallon. He didn't feel as awkward about being around Josh as the time passed. Maybe they could be friends after all.

Haley and Ashley conveniently excused themselves together leaving Josh and Tyler to make small talk together. "So, uh, how have you been?" Tyler asked trying to sound as confident as possible.

Josh didn't seem bothered by the awkward tension between them as he answered. "Better. I've actually been doing a lot better." He smiled. Tyler hated the fact that he still thought Josh's smile was gorgeous.

"That's great Josh. I'm really happy for you. You deserve it." Tyler smiled back. He was genuinely happy that Josh was finally getting to a better place in his life but a part of him still desperately wanted to be part of it.

"So what about you, how have yo-" Josh was cut off by the drastic change in music. The upbeat dance music changed to a slow beat and Tyler was suddenly aware of all the couples around them. "Well uh, I guess this is kind of awkward." Josh laughed nervously. "Do you maybe want to dance?"

Tyler hesitated before nodding. He slipped into Josh's arms and relished in the familiar feeling of his embrace. "Hey Josh?" Tyler asked. Josh hummed in response before Tyler continued. "Is it bad that I miss this?"

Josh paused before answering. "No, is it bad that I miss it too?"

"No." Tyler whispered, he looked at Josh and he felt like nothing had changed between them. It was like the past four months hadn't happened. Like they were suddenly back to the park on their first date, the first time they kissed. Tyler leaned closer, filling the small gab between them. Josh's lips were just as soft as he remembered. He wasn't surprised that Josh kissed back immediately, he knew Josh could feel something between them too. Their lips moved softly together for what felt like forever and Tyler enjoyed every second of it.

Josh was the one to break the kiss but their foreheads and noses remained pressed together. "We're not very good at being friends are we?" He asked in a whisper.

"No, we aren't" Tyler whispered.

I thought it'd be a good idea to write a chapter before the epilogue but it just made me really sad and I'm questioning why I did this.
