Sam paced up and down the vet's waiting room as his mother sat in a chair, bouncing her leg up and down due to stress and impatience. They both had dry tear stains on their cheeks.

The two of them were both frightened about what they were going to hear, even though deep down they knew what the ending result would be.

Not too long later, the vet came out of the room with a sad look. Sam rushed over to him with his mom following close behind, waiting for the news they subconsciously already knew.

"I'm so tremendously sorry, but he's gone. There was no hope in saving him." The vet broke the news. Sam fell onto his knees and started to sob whilst his mom started to take deep breaths, in and out to try and control her breathing.

"We did everything we could do to try and help him but nothing worked." The vet told the two of them. The blond's mother nodded her head slightly and wiped the tears that were slowly falling from her eyes. Sam got off the ground and stormed out if the building, wanting to get some fresh air.

He sat on the cold ground with his back pressed up against the building's wall, and legs tucked into his chest. He couldn't believe that he lost one of his best friends: Diesel was gone. He had him since he was 8: Sam had Diesel for 9 years. Now he's gone. The friend he had the longest was gone.

And his best friend now was acting like a complete d*ck. But still, Sam needed his friend.

He took out his phone with shaky hands and started to call Colby. The phone rang for five seconds before he picked up.

Colby: "What?"

Sam: "C-C-Colby..."

Colby: "Sh*t, Sam are you crying?"

Sam: "I-I n-nee-eed y-you."

Colby: "Where are you? I'm on my way. You know what? I'll find you. I'm coming, Sammy. Don't worry."

Sam: "Th-Thank y-you."

Colby: "No need to thank me. I'll see you soon."

The two of them hung up. Sam hugged his knees tight, waiting for Colby to arrive. He should be bere within five minutes because he lives close to the vet.

Sam tried to calm himself down but he couldn't. He needed some sort of comfort there.

Some time later, he heard the very familiar voice of his friend. "Sam! Are you okay?!" Colby ran towards thr blond and asked worryingly. "H-He's g-gone..." Was all Sam said for Colby to know what he was saying. Plus they were sitting right in front of a vet.

Colby sat beside Sam and wrapped an arm around him. The blond leaned into him and laid his head on the brown-haired boy's shoulder.

"Th-Thanks for co-coming." Sam said to Colby with a small sniffle. "Sam, you don't need to thank me. You're going through kind of a hard time. Between me being an absolute a*s to you, and basically everyone and..." Colby looked up at the vet building with a sigh.

Just then Sam's mom walked out while wiping her eyes. Then she saw Colby with Sam and fixed herself up a bit.

"Colby, hi. Did Sam call you?" She asked him. "Yeah. And I'm sorry about Diesel." Colby said sadly. "He lived a long, healthy life. The time was bound to come eventually," She told him. "Also, would you like to come over? Sam could use some company." The blond's mom asked. Colby thought for a few seconds before answering, "Yeah I'll come. Let me just text my mom."

Colby got off of the ground and pulled out his phone to text his mother. After that, the three of them left to go back to Sam's.

~Time Skip~

The drive home was silent. You could only hear the music playing softly in the background. Sam and Colby were sitting in the back, beside each other so that Sam could lay his head on Colby's shoulder. Being near Colby, especially when he's touching him,  makes the blond feel some type of warmth inside his body, and made him feel better.

When they arrived back, the two boys went into Sam's room and, like always, into their normal position.

"I really appreciate you being here, Colby." Sam told his friend. "Of course. I hate seeing you upset. Seeing you upset makes me upset." Colby said to him. There was a moment of silence. "Can... can I ask you something?" Sam turned and faced Colby and spoke. "Yeah?" Colby said. "Why have you been acting so weird? Ever since you and Noah came here for dinner you have been off. Are you jealous of him or something?" Sam asked.

Colby let out a small sigh before answering. "To be honest, yes. Yes I am jealous of him. But that's not the reason I've been out of place." Colby answered. "Why are you jealous of Noah, and why have you been acting weird if it's not because of that?" Sam questioned. "Gage got into a car accident yesterday. I found out when I got back to my house after dinner. He's in a coma now." Colby told Sam.

"Sh*t, I'm sorry." Sam frowned. "We don't know when he's going to wake up. And when he does it's likely that won't be able to walk or talk even. That is if he wakes up." Colby had a small tear roll down his face. "Don't worry, Colbs. I know that he'll wake up I have faith." Sam smiled at Colby to try and make him feel better. He was successful.

"Thanks, Sammy." Colby grinned. "You're not the only one that's good at making people feel better." Sam smirked. "No I'm not." Colby chuckled.

There was another small moment of silence.

"Why are you jealous of Noah?" Sam asked. "Because... because... because I think that you'll choose him over me." Colby admitted to him. "You're my best friend, Colby. I've known you since third grade and I met Noah literally yesterday." Sam said to him. "I know but I wasn't talking in that way..." Colby told Sam.

"Then what way were you talking about?" The blond asked. "Just forget about it. And besides I should go back now," Colby got off of Sam's bed. "See you later." He said before leaving.

Sam sat on his bed for the next ten minutes, thinking, wondering what Colby meant by "wasn't talking in that way." But then, something hit him:

Does Colby like me?
