~8 Years Later~

Sam jumped out of his bed immediately after he heard his alarm clock go off. He quickly got ready for the day—got changed, brushed his teeth and fixed his hair a bit—before hurrying down the stairs for breakfast.

"Someone's excited today." Sam's mom chuckled as she served Sam eggs and bacon. "Of course I am! I need to get to the airport as soon as possible to meet him!" Sam said hastily. "When does his plane even land?" She asked with her arms crossed in front of her chest. "Ten." Sam responded without hesitation as he kept shoving food into his mouth. "It's not even eight?" Sam's mom said with slight confusion as to why Sam was in such a rush.

"Mom, if you had a best friend that was gone all summer then you would understand." Sam said after swallowing his last piece of food. "You're probably right." Sam's mom took her son's plate and put it in the sink so she could wash it.

"Also, Sam. Before you leave, please make sure you walk Diesel." She told Sam who was almost out the door. Diesel was Sam's male English Bulldog. He has had him since his dad died when he was 8-years-old so that he could have company.

Sam isn't an only child. He has an older sister but she's been away for school and visits on holidays and special occasions. The two people closest to Sam are Diesel and Colby. The two boys have known each other for eight years. There hasn't been a day that they haven't seen each other.

This summer was different though. Colby went on a two-and-a-half-month-long vacation travelling around Europe. Sam and Colby barely got time to text or FaceTime since Colby was always out with his family. Today Colby was coming back and Sam was picking him up.

"Okay, mom!" Sam responded to his mother before grabbing Diesel's leash and hooking it to his collar. "Love you." He said then walked out the door.

~Time Skip~

Sam was waiting at the airport anxiously with his hands in his pocket and leg bouncing as he leaned against the wall. Why am I so nervous? Sam thought to himself.

He kept checking the time on his watch. 9:50 am... 9:53 am... 9:55 am... Sam let out a stressful sigh. "Why is the time going by so slowly?" He asked himself out loud but made sure no one heard him.

After what felt like forever, Sam heard a familiar voice call out to him saying, "Sammy!" He shot his head in the direction of where the voice came from and saw Colby running towards him.

Sam's face brightened up. He had a large smile on his face and his eyes were shining. He ran towards the brown-haired boy copying what Colby was doing.

The two friends ran into each other's arms, engulfing one another in a tight hug. Colby had his neck buried into the crook of Sam's neck while Sam had his chin resting on Colby's collarbone.

"I missed you so much!" Sam told his friend. "I missed you too. I wish we didn't go for so long." Colby said as they pulled away.

"Hey, Sam." The blond heard the voice of Colby's older brother, Gage. "Oh, hi, Gage!" Sam smiled. "Long time no see." Gage said. "Long time no see indeed." Sam chuckled softly. "Hey, where are your guys' parents?" Sam asked, now suddenly noticing that Colby and Gage's parents were nowhere to be seen.

"I don't know to be honest. If I can't find them then I'll just call them." Gage said and Sam nodded. "If I want to find them then I should get going. Bye, Colby." Gage ruffled Colby's hair making Sam giggle. "Stop it!" Colby pushed his brother's arm away with a small smile. "Bye, Sam." Gage then said to the blonde before walking away.

"Now I have to fix my hair." Colby groaned as he and Sam started walking to the airport's exit. "Your hair's fine." Sam laughed. "How do I know that you're not lying?" Colby questioned. "I promise you, that your hair is perfect like it always is." Sam told Colby.

"You sure?" The brown-haired boy asked with a small smile. "Positive." Sam said. "Good... now let's hurry up and get to your house!" Colby started to run out of the airport. "You piece of sh*t!" Sam darted after him.

The two boys sprinted to Sam's car. They were both out of breath—mostly Colby though because he had extra weight to carry—when they arrived.

"I haven't ran that much since... never!" Colby said in between breaths. "You should start jogging more." Sam chuckled. "Are you fat-shaming me?" Colby asked, pretending to be offended. "Maybe, maybe not." Sam shrugged. "How rude." Colby huffed and crossed his arms.

"I guess you don't want a ride back to my house..." Sam said then started getting into the driver's seat of his car. "B*tch I'm coming with you. Don't you dare leave me here." Colby........ "You know I would never leave you." Sam giggled. "Now go put your stuff in the back so we can go." He added. "Okay." Colby said then put his backpack and suitcase in the trunk of Sam's car.

"Can we get McDonald's on the way back?" Colby asked as he got in the car. "It's not even twelve?" Sam questioned. "I haven't ate in six hours. I need food." Colby said calmly. "Fine. But only if I can have some of your food." Sam smirked. "Really?" Colby groaned. "Mhm." Sam nodded. "Okay..." Colby rolled his eyes with a sigh.

Then, they left the airport.
