S2E6 - Frenemy
It was the middle of the night, Stiles was driving his car while Scott and Sasha were telling him where to go. Earlier, they found out that Derek was after the Kanima. He had no idea it was Jackson and even if he knew, he would kill it anyway.
"What do we do now?" Stiles said when he skidded his Jeep while braking in front of a fence.
He turned his head to the right, but the passenger door was open and Scott and Sasha were no longer in the car. He immediately looked over and saw the two werewolves on the other side of the fence running. In the next alley, Scott turned right, but Sasha decided to follow her intuition and went left. She didn't take the time to warn her friend, Jackson's life was in danger right now, she had to help him. A few seconds later, the young woman saw Derek fighting the Kanima.
The beast tried to scratch Derek who avoided it hardly. He then sent it against the wall before growling. The Alpha threw his right fist but the Kanima ducked and the wall behind them exploded. The beast took the opportunity to throw itself on Derek and he couldn't move at all while it was violently slashing his arms.
Suddenly, it was thrown to the side and Derek saw, for the first time, Sasha in her werewolf form. The female Alpha grabbed an old car door and stood protectively in front of Derek as the Kanima got up. It charged the two Alphas, but Sasha used the car door as a shield. Derek grunted in pain as the young woman hustled him after another assault by the monster. She quickly looked at him and saw that his arms were covered with blood.
She decided to attack the beast on her own to give Derek a break to heal and threw the Kanima to the ground but before she could neutralize it, it dug his claws on her lower stomach. The female Alpha snarled while the Kanima climbed to the ceiling. It was about to jump, but a violent explosion lit up the alley and Sasha was completely dazzled. The next second, she was behind the wall. She saw two car lights illuminating the Kanima and then she heard gunshots. Sasha tried to move but Derek was behind her holding her tight.
"They're hunters! Don't move, they don't know about you!" Derek ordered her, placing a hand over her mouth to keep her from making a sound.
Sasha's eyes widened as she saw the Kanima collapsing to the ground. If it died, that meant that Jackson died too. Derek, who was still holding her tightly, felt her heart literally stop beating, for several seconds, until they heard the beast hissed again.
Derek finally released his grip when Chris and Gerard Argent left. The Alpha female immediately moved away from him before standing up and leaning against the wall. The green-eyed man looked at her, her sweater was soaked with blood, and he saw her almost collapse. He rushed to her and put his arm around her waist to support her. She shivered under his touch.
"I'm fine, it will heal. You should leave." She weakly said, trying to get out of his grip.
"It's going to take a few hours to heal. Come on, my car is close." Derek told her not letting go of her. "Stop struggling and just let me get you out of here." He added annoyed.
Sasha surrendered and let the Alpha help her walk, she didn't have the strength to fight anyway. Once in front of his car, he opened the door for her and she climbed in painfully. Derek closed the door, walked around the Camaro and sat in the driver's seat. The young woman pulled out her phone and saw that Stiles had sent her a message. He and Scott had tracked down Jackson and had the situation under control. Derek glanced at the young woman before asking for her address and starting the engine.
They had now been driving for a few minutes without a word. From time to time, he looked at her before looking at the road again. Sasha eyebrows' were scrunched in pain, but she didn't complain once.
"Can I ask you a question?" The young woman finally broke the silence.
"Guess so." Derek replied, glad that she was eventually talking. The silence was starting to get too heavy.
"Erica, Isaac and Boyd. Did you give them a choice?" Considering he helped her tonight, she had a feeling that he wasn't as awful as her former Alpha.
"Yes. I told them everything, hunters, full moon, blood lust. They still wanted the bite after that." Derek answered sincerely. "And you, did you have a choice?" He questioned even if he had already an idea.
"No." Sasha replied without elaborating and it only confirmed what the green eyed-man though. The young woman was bitten against her will and then for some reasons she was forced to kill. No wonder she seemed to hate him the first time they met.
"I've known Scott and Stiles for a few months now. Why haven't I heard of you before?" Derek asked getting curious to know more about the female Alpha who was sitting next to him.
"I was in boarding school for the last year, came back about a month ago." Sasha told him. She couldn't explain exactly why but talking to him seemed natural. "Why are you helping me?" She asked him referring to the current situation.
"I may be an Alpha, but I'm still human. I wasn't letting you bleed out on the street and you also kinda save my life the other night at the pool so." He said glancing at her. "Yesterday when we were on the field, you seemed to be pretty pissed. Why?" He couldn't help but ask to satisfy his curiosity.
"It was nothing. One of my teacher just said something I didn't like." Sasha replied vaguely. The Alpha sensed sadness in her voice but did not insist, she didn't seem to want to elaborate.
Derek turned left and drove into the residential neighborhood where the young woman lived. At the end of the road was her house.
"Do you know who it is?" The green eyed-man asked when he stopped his car in the driveway of her house. "Don't try to lie." He added turning his head towards hers.
"You know when you see, like, a friend in a Halloween mask, but all you can actually see are their eyes and you feel like you know 'em but you just can't figure out who it is. It was like that. I don't know who it is but I think it knows me." Sasha lied while carefully controlling her heartbeats.
"That doesn't explain why your heartbeat stopped when Argent shot the beast." Derek said. Her heartbeat was steady, her breath wasn't shaky and her eyes seemed truthfully. She couldn't be lying but he still was suspicious.
"I'm may be an Alpha, but just like you, I'm still human and I actually care when someone dies in front of me." She added looking at him in the eyes. "Thank you for the ride." She told him quietly before opening the door.
The Alpha simply nodded as a response and watched her get out of his car and walking towards the entrance of her house. Once she was inside, he turned the engine back on and drove away. What happened tonight, confused him even more.
Allison was running through the woods towards the cliff. During the night, Scott and Stiles had the really great idea of kidnapping Jackson and he was currently chained in a police van.
"They know." Allison said when she finally reached Stiles.
"What?" The teenager replied shocked.
"They know Jackson's missing." She repeated completely stressed out.
"No, they can't. I've been. texting his parents since last night. They don't have a clue." Stiles told her thinking that he was perfectly handling the situation.
"My grandfather told me his parent went to the police. They know." Allison said for the third time.
Stiles began to whimper and suddenly jumped when Jackson's phone was snatched from his hands. Both he and Allison widened their eyes when they saw Sasha standing in front of them, reading the texts. She had followed the brunette.
"Jackson didn't say I love you to his parents since he found out he was adopted." She said coldly making Stiles realized his mistake.
"Sasha let me..." Stiles started to say but she shut him up by giving him a murderous look.
"Kidnapping Jackson isn't exactly what I would call having the situation under control! What the hell were you thinking?!" Sasha blew up. "Open the truck. I need to talk to him." She asked Stiles in a commanding tone.
"It's not a good idea. He doesn't remember being the Kanima so he just thinks that Stiles and I are absolutely crazy for kidnapping him." Scott, who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, said to his friends. "Sasha, if you go in there, he will think that you're our partner in crime." He added with concern.
The young woman thought for a moment and realized that the teenager was right. Jackson might think she was involved in his kidnapping and that would only break his trust in her.
"There's something else. You said the only thing you found online about the Kanima is that it goes after murderers. What if that's actually true?" Scott said while looking at Stiles.
"Well, no, it can't be. Tried to kill all of us, remember? I don't know about you three, but I haven't murdered anybody lately." The mischief kid replied unconvinced.
"Not lately but..." Sasha shrugged her shoulders. "I'm an Alpha, Stiles." She added when she saw him widening his eyes. He had forgotten how she got her red eyes.
"But I don't think that it was actually trying to kill us. Remember when we were at Isaac's the first time, it just went right by us, didn't it?" Scott said to Allison and brought the conversation back to its original subject.
"You're right, it just ran off." The brunette replied.
"And it didn't kill you in the mechanic's garage." McCall added pointing at his two best friends.
"Well, yeah, but it tried to kill me and Derek in the pool." Stiles replied annoyed.
"What if it was trying to keep you in?" Sasha wondered.
"Yeah, because there's something else going on. We don't know what it is. We don't know anything about what's going with Jackson or why someone's protecting him." Scott agreed with the female Alpha.
"Alright, I got it. Kill Jackson. Problem solved." Stiles stated sarcastically.
"What about killing you instead?" Sasha flashed her red eyes at him. He knew she was also sarcastic but it didn't stop him from shaking.
"He risked his life for us. Against the Alpha, you remember that?" McCall said to convince his friend.
"Yes, but what did we just find out? He got the bite from Derek. It's funny how he just got exactly what he wanted by supposedly risking his life for us, it's funny." The teenage boy muttered.
"Yeah, it doesn't mean he's not still worth saving." Sasha interjected.
"It's always something with him, though." Stiles muttered again.
"He doesn't know what he's doing." The female Alpha added sadly.
"So what?" Stiles asked a little dryly.
"So, I didn't either." Scott answered him. He knew exactly what Sasha meant before. "You remember when I almost killed you and Jackson? I had someone to stop me. He has nobody." He also said.
"Jackson has me and I'll do anything to save him." Sasha stated seriously. "I know you don't like him Stiles, but if you don't do it for him, do it for me. You know how much I care about him." She insisted in a pleading tone.
Stiles looked at his friend with compassion. Even if he didn't like Jackson, he couldn't do that to Sasha. She had already lost so much, she couldn't lose him.
"He's still a jackass." The teenager told her with a thin smile and Sasha chuckled lightly.
"Doesn't matter. If we can save him, we should try." Scott said sealing their finale decision.
Suddenly there was a huge metallic noise and the four teenagers looked at the police van. The doors were completely smashed and the truck was empty. Jackson had escaped.
