16.) Goodbyes
The feeling of silk against my skin woke me up. For the first time in a while I was sleeping in a bed. A soft, warm, comfortable bed. At first I didn't remember where I was, but as I gazed around the memories of yesterday came flooding back to me.
I tried to sit up, but my head began to pound. I could feel a goose egg that had risen on my forehead right where the guard had hit me a couple days ago.
"Sandra!" I hissed to myself. I faintly remember someone telling me that she was okay last night, but it was all so blurry.
Finally I mustered up the strength to stand up. I stumbled over to the closet and began looking through my choices. What surprised me though was that only a few of the selections were black and white. Others were red, purple, green, and any other color you could think of.
Feeling rebellious I went with a set of white pants and neon red blouse. They both fit be nicely, and weren't too baggy like the close I usually wear are. Further down the closet their is a section for shoes and jewelry. I pick out tomatoes red combat boots and a string of white pearls to tie off the look.
I wander over to the mirror and almost begin to cry. The clothes were beautiful. All the color was blinding, which made me smile from ear to ear. In my eyes I couldn't see why people hadn't liked this before. Getting to choose your own style, getting to choose who you wanted to be.
As I entered the hallway Bruce and were coming out too. Rachel had on a white and pink dress with white high heels and a load of jewelry, where as Bruce alphas a simple navy blue shirt I on which was accompanied by black shorts and running shoes.
"Wow." They both said in astonishment at the same time.
"Is it to much? I mean I've never seen so many colors be allowed in the same space before!"
"No it's perfect." Bruce said.
"Question; why did the president dislike me being normal if when I work for him he shows that I'm difference clearly?"
"It's because he doesn't like you being different and not working for him. As long as your under his control, he wants you to be as different as possible.
That's why he only kept you, because Sandra and Andrew were too normal enough to be a true bother."
"Oh."
The rest of the way I walked in silence. I couldn't figure out why the president would want me to work with him. But, mainly I was planning my escape, I wanted to find Andrew and Sandra, then get out of here. I refused to work with someone like the president, who is evil.
Bruce and Rachel pushed me towards a grant hallway. All around us people were bustling to put up black and white decor. Their was an ivory chandelier with black candles hanging from it and a load of black streamers. I looked at Bruce questioningly, but he just shrugged, he didn't know what was going on either.
Bruce and Rachel exited through the grand door at the end of the room, and I followed suit. I entered into a large room with only a single table running the length of it. Bruce and Rachel were just taking their seats, which were right next to the president.
"Hello Jessamine, I hope you had a pleasant rest, do you like the new close?" The president said cooly with a small smirk.
"Yes." I say as shortly and as plain as possible. Something flashed in his eyes, annoyance? Or possibly amusement?
"I have arranged for your two friends to meet us here and say their goodbyes."
As he said that the doors burst open and four guards paraded in. Two help a fighting Sandra, she seemed fully recovered from yesterday's insistent. The other two were dragging a broken and distant Andrew behind them.
"Jess!" Sandra sighed, "your alright! What are you doing here, and in those gorgeous close? Did you here? Their letting us out?"
"You must be Sandra," the President said with a twitching smile, "to answer your question the only reason your not still in that cell is because your friend Jess, is working for me."
"What? Jess how could you?"
"No Sandra that's not how it is. I told him that if you and Andrew were allowed out of the city, I'd work for him. That's what he wanted all along, and besides you guys would have dies if I hadn't agreed."
Tears were threatening to spill over my eyes as I tried to convince her. I was just beginning that I may never see them again.
"Is he alright?" I asked nodding to Andrew.
"No. He's broken, maybe he'll recover some day, but for now the only person he remembers is you." Sandra answered quietly.
That was the breaking point. I could feel the damp streaks on my face as I walk over and pulled Sandra into a tight squeeze. I nestled my head into her hair, which was now a bluefish black.
"We will come back for you. I promise." She whispered into my ear.
I pulled away from her and crouched down to Andrew's level. He was staring off into space. Yet, even though his blonde hair was brown with dirt, and his eyes had turned a murky gray I could still see the boy who had carried me home that first night.
"Hey Andrew it's me, Jess."
"Jess."
I bit my lip nervously, so I had to try it. With tears cascading down my nose Ii gently leaned in so that my lips were brushing his. Immediately a warm sensation filled my body, but it just made the pain inside of me grow ten times worse. I pulled away, and almost directly after Andrew collapsed into my arms.
I stood up quietly. I could feel the stares of everyone in the room fixed on me. My cheeks were puffy and damp from tears. Sandra shot me a longing glance before being pulled away. Silently in my head I whispered; This will not is not the last goodbye. We will meet again, this is not the end.

Dear readers,
This was a very emotional chapter, so I'm sorry it took so long to write. But, on the bright side; Jess had her first kiss... with an almost insane guy... who is leaving her forever. ;) A quick reminder, this is not edited, so...
