Jessie's Perspective

He lifted the banner up high before letting out a 'wow'.

"Do you still have those matches?" His deep voice echoed off the walls, bouncing off each other and landing back at us. Gray nodded slightly, before going through his pack and grabbing the box.

"Why do you have matches?" I inquired, honestly wondering why an eleven year old has a box of fire starters in his bag.

"A scout's always prepared." Gray grinned, toothily – making me ruffle his hair. "What are you even going to do?"

"Just light up the place." Zach shrugged.

"Wait..." I bent over and got the bone again. "Light this." Zach scratched the bud against the side of the box and we soon had a functional make-do torch for this pitch-black room. I saw the faces of the two boys I was with, with a fiery glaze. We walked through the center, droplets of water dropping on the floor and our feet's patting against the ground. No one spoke up.

We were all too scared too.

I saw Zach run his hand over the painting of an Apatosaurus. A red light flickered on his face, as he walked ahead. Gray and I were staring at the painting, looking at the definition it had.

"What happened to this place?" Gray mumbled.

"Keeping it simple, dinosaurs got loose." I explained. "Like what's happening now." I sighed.

"Jessie! Gray!" Zach called for us in a harsh whisper. We followed Zach around a corner, to where there seems to be yellow helmets and many different types of helmets. Trees were overgrown, leaning into the building. There were cars in this place.

"It's a garage." I obviously stated while Zach and Gray wandered around, looking at everything in the room. My eyes focused on a bag pack slipped under the shelves.

"1922 Jeep Wrangler Sahara." Gray stated, voice still hushed but not as whispered. I turned around to see the brothers looking at the car, staring at it. I saw a face of familiarity and planning on his face.

"You remember when we fixed Grandpa's old Malibu, right?" Zach inquired to Gray as I tried to reach for the bag.

"Yeah."

"Come on." Zach put the torch somewhere carefully to illuminate the room, before I heard Zach bark a list of things to Gray to find. I started trying to find a stick.

"Hey..." Zach whispered, sitting on his knees beside me.

"Hey..." I greeted back, voice shaky from a feeling I have been neglecting. I was neglecting quite a lot of feelings: fear, cold, pain. Even if it was Central America, I was still soaked and freezing.

"Here" He slipped off his gray jacket and slipped it over my shoulders, causing me to give him a sly smile while he remained in his maroon shirt. "So, this could very much be the end of this island and, or our lives right now, and I may never see you again after this..." Zach started. "But, it's worth a try." He sighed. "Jessie, would you like to go on a date with me?"

Did he really just ask me that? Is this some joke? "I thought you had a girlfriend." I stated, as I leant back down to try to reach the bag.

"Well, we broke up a while ago and she cheated on me..." Zach trailed off. "And, it has been over for months by now."

"So, I'm just a rebound?" I clarified.

"No! No!" Zach almost screamed. "No." He fixed his voice back to a whisper. "I mean, like, when I first saw you, I saw something really special about you and now I see a lot more in you, and well...I like you. Like in, like like." He started talking really fast, causing me to chuckle.

"If we get out of this, maybe." I smiled. "Hey, can you help me get that? You have longer arms than me." He nodded before reaching under the dusty shelf and stretching a little bit, successfully getting the bag. "Thanks." I smiled.

Before he could respond, Gray shouted out. "Found the supplies!" Zach just stood up, and walked to the car to fix it, while I rummaged through the backpack.

A first aid kid, a screwdriver, a flashlight, and a bunch of random things were contained in the bag. I quickly applied a wrap on tape around my ankle to support the fracture. With that, I smirked in victory, before wrapping it over my shoulders and prepared to help the boys with the car.
