You sighed as you prowled around the forest, looking for something to eat. All of the nearby ponds you usually fished at were completely void of fish. They were just gone. However, you'd also spotted the tracks and the smell of another dragon. Pig, you thought. Who eats all of the fish, anyways?

You padded down to the last lake, the biggest, knowing there had to be at least one fish. And low and behold, there was! While all the other fish had probably gone into hiding under their rocks and into their little caves like smart animals, this one fish continued to swim about like it hadn't a care in the world. Reckless mistake.

You perched on a nearby rock, coiled up your legs, and finally, you pounced, claws grabbing and teeth gnashing, and you came up with it. Slightly mauled, but still a fish.

You triumphantly paraded out of the water and up onto the bank, with a walk one could only describe as a prance, and sat down on your hind legs, tail flicking happily behind you as you began on your dinner. Boy, was it delicious. The tasty morsel slipped down your throat, and you happily licked your chops, eager for more, only to remember that there was no more.

You frowned, huffing and blowing air out through your snout in disjointed frustration. While the fish had been tasty, it was merely a sample, an appetizer. Just a little flavor for the tongue. A healthy dragon, you knew, should've had many many pounds of fish available to her.

Your ears flinched and flicked up as you heard a small sound like a crunch, a broken twig, and your head shot up, your body going into a offensive stance. There were many things it could've been. Maybe a big bear, an easy catch. Or a juicy rabbit. Or maybe...

Your eyes widened as you spotted another dragon, the scales on your back going up like the hairs on a cat, trying to make yourself seem bigger than you were. As far as dragon standards went, you were about average, maybe even a little smaller, though you didn't like to imagine yourself that way.

As you saw this new dragon, black and sleek, and so much bigger than you as he carefully drew forward, you couldn't help but admit just how small you really were.

His big yellowish green eyes studied you as he moved, never seeming to blink, and you tried your very hardest not to. You'd never seen another dragon like this one before. As he moved closer and you tried to carefully move back, you began to grow more and more scared, realizing that he wasn't the least bit phased by what you called your "scaring stance."

"Toothless!" Your eyes darted quickly to the side as you heard the voice, a human. A flash of memory went by, remembering when you'd been a baby how you'd watched from your nest as your mother was shot from the sky, and you'd just been barely old and strong enough to somehow struggle out alone.

You shook off the memory, but made what sounded like a squeak of surprise as you saw the dragon right in front of you. You jumped, flailing and falling, not very gracefully, onto your back. You shut your eyes, sure that the dragon was going to tear you to pieces, but when you cracked open an eyelid, you were shocked to find the dragon hanging over you very much like a puppy, his eyes wide and his tongue hanging out of the side of a very playful, and toothless, smile.

"There you are, buddy." You took your eyes off the dragon, finding him to no longer be much of a threat. Maybe a slight annoyance, as he was very big, and at the moment, in your way. You narrowed your eyes as a very scrawny human boy came up beside the dragon. "What'd you find?"

In response to his question, you bared your teeth, snarling angrily, glaring at the boy, knowing that while you couldn't take down the dragon, you could most definitely take out the human. You were also very curious as to why the dragon himself, Toothless apparently, hadn't already taken care of it, especially as one pale human hand was placed on one hulking and black dragon shoulder.

"Wow, she's a feisty one." You couldn't help but perk up at his words, happy to have someone finally realize what you already knew. "I wonder if she'd let me touch her..."

At this, you flinched again, eyes trained and focused in on the fleshy hand coming towards you, a low growl sounding in the back of your throat. "I won't hurt you. I promise." His voice was gentle, but the closer he came, the more you began to worry. What would it feel like? Slimy? Rough? Would his touch sting?

All of your questions were answered as he finally made contact with the scales just above your nose, right on your snout. His hand was neither slimy nor rough, and it certainly didn't sting. It was very soft, and as he began to gently rub over your skin, you couldn't help but let out a small sound like a purr, which startled and embarrassed you at the same time, but you continued to quietly make the sound.

"What should we name her, buddy?" He went through a whole list of names, some of them sounding okay, and others making both you and Toothless huff, but finally... "(Y/N)."

You gave a small hum of satisfaction, and Toothless grinned down at you, his body still positioned over yours, tongue popping back out.

"Maybe you should get off her, bud. Give her some space." Toothless pushed air out through his nose like a sigh, but slowly moved back, giving you room to move, and you took advantage of it, sitting up and stretching your cramped muscles, letting your tail flick back and forth, loving all the little pops you heard in your joints as you moved.

Toothless couldn't take his eyes off of you, even as the boy, who introduced himself as Hiccup, continued to observe you. He tested out your wings, your tail, your back scales, your limbs, everything. All the while, the Night Fury watched curiously as you continued to make eye contact, fleeting glances happening between the two of you.

"We've never seen this type of dragon before, huh?" You peered down at the boy as he opened his bag, pulling out a journal and gingerly beginning to draw you, the form of a dragon taking place on the page. "What do you think?"

Your eyes widened as you stared at the page. "That's you, (Y/N)." You were shocked. The sleek, beautiful dragon he'd drawn was you. How could it be? You'd only seen yourself in the reflections of the ponds, always rippled and in waves. Yet here you were, still and unmoving, and strong.

You felt your skin heat up beneath your scales as Toothless padded over, observing the drawing his friend had made and nodding, seeming to think that was exactly how you looked. He grinned at you again, your eyes flicking down to look at the dirt as you pawed it, unsure of what to think.

"Come on, guys," Hiccup said, carefully putting his sketchbook back in his bag. "I have the perfect stall for you back at home, (Y/N). I promise you'll love it." You blinked at his invitation, shocked. This human was going to let you live with him? It was something you'd definitely never expected.

You looked around the forest, taking in the sun, the trees, the ponds, and the grass. Some part of you was scared to say goodbye, scared that if you left with them, you'd never see your old home, again. But as you looked down at the boy, and then up into the face of the, though you hated to admit it, handsome dragon, you knew you'd always be able to come back with them at your side, and he meant what he said. You would love your home with them.

You smiled as you laid down in your stall, eating your afternoon snack, freshly caught fish. They were plentiful and you never seemed to run out. Hiccup always kept them coming, so long as you went with him to all of the best fishing places to help him out and get your exercise.

Your bed of hay proved to be a soft spot for you to rest, and you were always given plenty of toys to play with. You really did love it, just as Hiccup had promised you would.

You watched with a roll of your eyes as Toothless played in front of you, having already snarfed down his heaping helping of fish, and run off to go play with three young dragons, one boy with (F/C) scales, another boy with black scales, one small girl with a mixture of both scales. Your children were beautiful, as Hiccup said.

And just as playful and energetic as Toothless, you thought. You gave a small snort as they all suddenly stopped, turning to look at you, and gave you silly, lopsided, tongue-out grins.
