This is my version of what I would have liked to have happen at the ending of EK. I never felt like Huma was a mother figure. I always, every show toward the end of the series, waited for them to say Mihriban was Can's mother, but it never happened. I apologize if my version is similar to anyone else's version. I have tried very hard not to copy others ideas of what should have happened. I have not read this version anywhere else, this is straight from my imagination.

I do know that there is an ABO blood type incompatibility, and I do know that an O+ person and an AB- person cannot have an AB- baby. I just used this as an example of how ridiculous it was that it took almost thirty years for anyone to notice, that Can was not Huma's son. Detective Altay stood in front of the group and had the older lady sit in a chair beside him. Everyone was wondering who she was, but no one ask. He started out telling everyone about the attorney that visited Can's orthopedic doctor. He explained what the attorney wanted the doctor to do about Can's records. There were a lot of shocked looks and noise in the group. Can and Sanem just sat and held hands, waiting and watching.

When everyone quieted down, he continued, "We have been investigating as this is considered fraud and a felony. What we have found is very disturbing. We have not updated Can, as to what we have found out, so this is a surprise to him and Sanem. I have a few questions for a couple of you."

He turned to Mihriban and ask her, "Mrs. Divit did you give birth to a child November 1989?" Everyone turned to her, as she became very pale, and just looked at Aziz. He got her by the hand and said, "Mihriban, what is he talking about?" She started crying and said, "I am so sorry Aziz, I have never told you, but I was pregnant when you broke up with me to marry Huma. I did have a baby, but he was stillborn. I should have told you, but I was all alone, and hurt so much, because you married Huma. My family disowned me. Then I heard that Can was born, and I grieved so much for my baby. I have never told anyone about my baby. The hospital would not even let me have his body to bury." There was not a dry eye in the room, except Huma who just looked smug.

Detective Altay turned to the lady sitting beside him, and introduced her as Adile Bulut, a former nurse at the Istanbul Hospital. He asks her if she had anything to say to the group. She started crying and said, "I am so sorry. I took the money for my family and have felt guilty for thirty years, about what I have done. Mrs. Divit, I helped steal your baby and I told you he died. I am so sorry for what I have done. When Detective Altay came to my house, I was so glad to finally tell the truth. I don't know her name, but the woman in the black blouse, is the one that gave me the money to steal your baby. I am so sorry." She was crying so hard that Sanem got up and went over, and put her arms around the elderly lady. Everyone was just looking at Huma in shock. Huma said, "None of that is true, don't believe her. She is old and forgetful. Can is my son, not hers."

Can, Aziz, and Emre sat speechless, just looking around. Mihriban just sat with a wounded look on her face.

Detective Altay said, "We have found that everything, Mrs. Bulut has said is true. We have been able to do a DNA test on Can and Huma Uzun, and she is not his mother. We were able to do the test from Can's hospital admission, and then we were able to go undercover and obtain DNA from Mrs. Uzun. We have not done a DNA test on Mrs. Divit and Can yet to determine if he is the baby stolen from the hospital nursery. We will be doing this test as soon as possible. Now we have found out that Huma Uzun hired the attorney to approach Can's doctor and offer money to change his medical records. The attorney that she hired is under arrest, as we speak. Now Huma Uzun, please stand. You are under arrest for felony kidnapping of a newborn, trying to falsify medical records, attempted fraud."

The whole time Huma was being led out by Detective Altay's men, she was yelling, "It's all lies. Mihriban never had a baby, she made it all up. Can don't believe them, it's not true." Her fourth husband stood up, shook the detective's and Can's hand, and just left. Detective Altay thanked everyone, and apologized for the details he had withheld from Can and his family. He was afraid that Huma would leave the country, if too many details were known in advance. He shook Can and Sanem's hand, helped Mrs. Bulut up, and left.

Can just sat down with Sanem beside him, and held her hand. He started crying when his Baba came over and said, "Can I am so sorry, I never realized how far Huma would go with her jealously and lies. Mihriban, I am so sorry for what she has done to you."

Can stood up and walked over to where Mihriban sat, with her head down and tears flowing. He reached and got her hands, and said, "May I call you Anne?" She just nodded, and Can reached and pulled her into a hug, they both just sat there holding each other for the longest time, both crying. Aziz and Emre walked over and wrapped the two in a four way hug, and everyone in the room was crying. Can finally said, "Since I have met you, you have shown more love to me than Huma ever has, and that is the reason I wanted us to name our daughter after you. Thank you."

They heard a noise of little feet running down the hall. Ates came into the room yelling, "Baba." He ran over to Can and grabbed him around the neck, saying, "Don't be sad Baba." Then he reached out and got Mihriban's hand saying, "Are you okay Annie?" Everyone was surprised, as Ates had always called her 'Mihri' and he called Huma just Huma! Now he called Mihriban, 'Annie'. He got down and ran to Sanem, who was crying, and said "It's okay, Anne. Baba okay." Now everyone was smiling, as leave it to Ates, to put everything into perspective.

Aziz said to Can and Mihriban, "I am so sorry that this happened to you two. I feel like it is my fault. Huma caused us to break up, with her lies, but I had no idea that she would have gone this far. I will be glad to pay for a DNA test, for you."

Can replied, looking at Mihriban, "Unless we need it legally, I do not need a DNA test, I know you are my mother. I am so sorry that you had to grieve all of these years alone."

Mihriban said sobbing, "I can't believe you are really alive. I never got to hold you and just saw a glimpse after you were born. My arms have always felt so empty, but now I can hold you and your children are really my grandchildren. I am so blessed."

Now everyone was crying again, they could not believe what had happened.

Emre was so sad and disappointed, as he could not believe that his Anne had done something so bad. She had even hid all of this, for almost thirty years, how could someone be that deceitful. This was worse than all the times she tried to break up Can and Sanem and Emre and Leyla. He could not even imagine anyone doing something so despicable, to separate a mother and her newborn.

Over the next few weeks, things happened fast. The police and district attorney filing charges against Huma, insisted on a DNA. The results proved beyond any doubts that Can was Mihriban and Aziz's son. All of Istanbul, Can's family and friends were shocked. Huma was charged with felony kidnapping, attempt to falsify medical records, and fraud. She could not find an attorney who wanted to take such a famous case, and the public defender assigned to her, advised her to plead guilty. She was sentenced to twenty years in prison. Her fourth husband filed for divorce and left Turkey.

Mrs. Bulut, the nurse who had helped Huma, was given a suspended sentence, because of her age and bad health. Also, Can, Sanem, and Mihriban went to the court and testified for her to have leniency, as she had already suffered for almost thirty years of guilt. She actually died a few months later. Her family felt that she died of a broken heart and guilt over what she had done.

Can and Sanem just wanted to put everything behind them, and move on with their lives. Can was actually relieved to know that Huma was not his real mother, as it explained why she never really loved him. Aziz was still horrified and felt guilty, about everything Huma had done to Mihriban and Can. Emre and Leyla decided that their children would know Mihriban as their Annie, also. Emre was heartbroken, because of what Huma had done; he still found it hard to believe his mother could do something so repulsive.

Mihriban was still in shock to know that someone had stolen her baby, and told her he had died. She felt like she should have realized and felt something at the time, but her grief was so intense and she was so young.

Detective Altay was actually the one that suggested that Can and Mihriban go to family counseling. They went and after a few sessions, the counselor suggested that other family members come too. Aziz went with Can and Mihriban, and later Sanem went with Can, and Emre and Leyla, also went for a few sessions. It was very helpful for all of them to talk, about how they felt about Huma and what she had done. It was very helpful for all of them to realize, they should have no guilt for not realizing what she had done. That everything she had done was all on her, and was not anyone else's fault.

During this time Can and Mihriban became closer, not quite the same as if she raised him. Surprisingly, they had similar tastes in reading materials, in their thinking, and even some mannerisms.  

February 1989:    Aziz held Mihriban as she cried, he didn't know what to say to calm her down. He was twenty-one, and inexperienced with women, and Mihriban was eighteen. Aziz's Baba had just told him he had to go to America for six months, to Aziz this was not a long time, but to young Mihriban it was a lifetime. They had been friends for years, but just started dating this last summer. He just held her as she cried, then he leaned in and kissed her. They had only kissed once before and Mihriban was shocked that he kissed her just then. She raised up and looked at him, holding her lips with her hand. He said, "I have to leave in two weeks, and I am going to kiss you every chance I get." They both giggled and held onto each other.

Both of their families were very strict, so it was no surprise they were both inexperienced. They kept meeting every day, and one night things went a little too far, but they loved each other and were going to get married when he returned from America. It was for each of them, their first time. It was very special, and they were so happy.

Aziz did not tell anyone what happened, because being older he realized it would be harder for Mihriban, then himself. Mihriban being a teenager, told her best friend Huma. Now Huma was older than Mihriban, but younger than Aziz, and she was extremely jealous of Mihriban, and had loved Aziz for years. She was determined to break Mihriban and Aziz's up.

The night before Aziz left, their friends had a going away party for him. Huma had it all planned out, she had bought some pills to drug Aziz. Her plan was to drug him, get him into bed, and have Mihriban see them. Huma's older cousin helped her to set it all up. Huma being richer paid him a lot of money to help her. When the cousin, brought Mihriban to the room where Aziz was passed out and Huma had her clothes off lying with him, she was devastated. She ran out of the room crying, and the cousin took pictures of them for Huma to use later.

The next day, no one could find Mihriban, and Aziz was really upset she didn't come see him leave. Huma was there and told him that Mihriban had left with another boy the night before. Aziz left on his trip upset with Mihriban.

Fast forward six months later and Aziz stayed in America a few months longer. He had written a letter to Mihriban, but she had not replied. Huma sent him letters telling him that Mihriban had left with someone else.

Mihriban had discovered she was pregnant, and when she told her Anne and Baba they disowned her, and threw her out of their home. She went to live with an aunt, who was not as traditional as her parents. Huma heard all of the rumors and tracked Mihriban down, and hired someone to watch her. When she went into labor Huma went to the hospital, and paid the nurse to steal the baby. The nurse told Mihriban and the aunt that the baby boy had died.

Huma sent pictures to Aziz, of them in bed together, a fake pregnancy belly, and baby Can. He came back from America, married her and announced Can's birth. Actually Aziz had never slept with Huma until their wedding.

It was many years later when Aziz and Mihriban realized what Huma had done to them. They finally sat down after finding out that Can was their baby together, and discussed everything.

Jealously, greed, and lies will always be found out, even thirty  years later.
