As I got off the bus after school I hurried home and grabbed what I needed for the surprise picnic I planned for Calum. Mum saw the effort I put in and congratulated me for finding a girlfriend, and as the stupid human I am I didn't correct her. I was scared to tell her, I was scared to tell anyone. And as far as I'm concerned; Calum is the closest thing to a girl I will ever come. I'm not saying he's a girl, and that says more than I'm saying. When I grabbed what I needed I went to the beach five minutes away from my house, walked past the weeping willow in the far end and sat up the blanket on the grass a bit away from the wooden walking bridge.
I called Calum and asked him to come, which he informed me that he would. I met him at the Carpark a minute before deadline, which made me quite impressed. He was usually late, but now he wasn't. Since Calum is the worst swimmer I know, since he can't swim at all, he hadn't been to the beach before and that just made the whole situation better. I think it's just a few people around here who actually knows why the place is called Weeping Willow Beach, and now Calum knows it too. I grabbed his hand and almost dragged him towards the wooden bridge at the far end of the beach, he told me we didn't have to rush it but I was too excited to slow down. And then he just laughed at me.
When we got to the blanket his eyes grew wide and I finally stopped dragging him. He froze for a minute before he threw his arms around my neck, causing me to tumble backwards and fall on my back with Calum on top of me, but I really didn't mind. I hoped his reaction would be something like that. After a while of violently hugging me he rolled off me and stared at the set up again.
"So, you did this for me becaaause?.." he asked suspiciously, raising an eyebrow at me before positioning himself on the blanket next to me. I laid down on my back again, looking up at the pink clouds before turning my attention back to Calum.
"Because I love you" I filled in. A smile spread across his face and he leaned down towards my lips and pecked them teasingly before turning towards the picnic basket for the first time. He looked at it for a solid ten seconds before turning back to me, with that raised eyebrow again that I've grown so used to. I love it though.
"Shall I be scared?"
"Of what's in the basket?" I asked and he nodded slowly. "You shall not"
"Perfect. Because I'm starving" he said and laughed quietly, turning his head back to the basket again. He opened it slowly, like it would be something lethal inside it that probably would kill him in no time, but when it was completely open he turned back towards me with a smirk.
"Are you serious?"
"I am"
"This is why I love you" he said and pecked my lips again before devouring the next hour at eating pizza and talking. Yeah, I ordered pepperoni pizza, which it wasn't so hard to figure out that he loved. Maybe because Michael once asked him if he liked pizza, which he replied with that he loves pizza, so we went and ate pizza and he ordered a pepperoni one. Everything's so logic sometimes.
When it started to get dark after another hour we decided to pack things up and head home, and as the incredibly awesome gentlemen I am, which I'm by the way not really, I insisted I should follow him home. He didn't mind it. When we got to the Carpark and he unexpectedly tackled me down onto the sand by jumping on my back, catching me off guard, I asked him to grab all the things as I let him piggyback ride me all the way home to his house. When we got there I was more than exhausted, my legs felt like jelly and my back was probably worse. Yours would too if you walked uphill with an, actually quite fit, eighteen year old boy on your back. But the challenge was completed, so I was more than happy about it. Even though he said at least three times that it wasn't a challenge after he asked me to carry him home, but I blocked that out.
"You're exhausted" Calum persisted and I sighed as I put him down onto the porch.
"... No I'm not" I lied, yawning before rubbing my eyes. That was a habit Calum really liked to talk about, me rubbing my eyes when I'm tired. I don't really understand why I do it either.
"MUM, CAN LUKE SPEND THE NIGHT? HE'S EXHAUSTED" Calum suddenly yelled after opening the front door. He caught me off guard, for the second time in ten minutes, and I jumped at his voice. He looked at me and laughed quietly, me rolling my eyes at him before his mum replied in the same tone.
"AS LONG AS YOU FUCK QUIETLY IT SHOULD BE QUITE ALRIGHT" she yelled back and my cheeks flushed deep red. I looked down onto the floor; this wasn't what I was planning on doing but okay.
"MUUUM-" Calum whined loudly before putting down all the things on the floor in front of the door. I wouldn't have been able to carry the things with him on my back, so I'm maybe not such a gentleman after all.
"Okay, come on then, let's fuck quietly"
"Which means lying down in bed until we fall asleep almost immediately because we're really, really tired. Right?" I asked. He grabbed my hand again and walked out of the hallway, into the living room area and towards the stairs.
"... Right" he said with a smirk. And honestly, we went further than up the stairs that night.
