I sat in the kitchen, reading a book, while Gloria made dinner. Manny walked into the room and Gloria looked up at him, "¡Ay! So handsome!" I looked up at Manny to see him wearing a purple and black shirt.

"Thank you." He smiled, walking to the fridge. Gloria looked at him, confused.

"Manny, are you wearing aftershave?" Gloria asked.

"Yes, for my date." Manny replied.

"You have a date?" I asked, shocked. Manny turned to me.

"Okay, you don't have to be that shocked. I wasn't that shocked when I found out you had a date." Manny said, "Oh, who even is it? You still won't say."

"And I probably never will." I replied, looking back down at my book. Manny shook his head and looked back at Gloria.

"This will be the first time my date will ever smell me." Manny said seconds before the doorbell rang, "Oh, that must be her. If this goes well, you don't need to stick around." Manny said before running to the front door, Gloria following him.
I put my book down and got up from the stool I sat on, and followed.

Manny opened the door to reveal a woman, who looked to be about 27. "Hi. I'm Whitney. I'm here for Manny." She said. I held back a amused smile that was attempting to show.

"This is gonna be entertaining." I whispered to myself.

——

"This is so humiliating. I am sorry." Whitney cried. Manny placed a cappuccino in front of her.

"It's okay." Gloria told Whitney, gently rubbing her back.

"He just seemed so mature online. How could I be so stupid?"

"You're not stupid." Manny spoke up, "'Stupid' is not following your heart and taking a chance on love." Manny said, placing a tray down.

"I mean, what kind of 11-year-old talks like that?" She began crying, again.

"Manny's an old soul." Gloria said, adding sugar to her drink.

"Here." Manny passes Whitney a handkerchief, "Use my handkerchief."

"You see what I mean?" Gloria looked at her.

"I'll just be alone for the rest of my life. And that's okay."

"No, don't say that. In my country, there's a saying that means 'Love is just around the corner.'" Gloria smiled.

"Maybe for you. I mean, men must throw themselves at you every day."

"They'll do the same for you if you just—" Gloria stopped.

"Just What? Put out?"

"No. Just— Like, the lipstick, the hair, push-up bra. You know."

"What's it matter? I'm never gonna be as pretty as you." Whitney sniffled.

"Ay, believe me, this takes a lot of work. You just need to find your inner beauty."

"It's hiding beneath a mask of insecurity." Manny said. Whitney stared at him then looked down at the table, then looked at Gloria.

"Okay, he's starting to freak me out." Whitney said.

"Manny go play." Gloria said to Manny, "You too, Y/N."

——

"I'm home!" Jay shouted, entering the house.

"We're here." Gloria shouted from the kitchen. Jay walked into the kitchen, his face showed confusion when he saw Whitney. "This is Whitney. We're giving her a makeover." Gloria said. Whitney turned away from Gloria, and looked at Jay.

"Hi. You have such a nice family and a really beautiful house." She told Jay.

"Thanks." He said then looked at Gloria, "You two know each other how?"

"She's my date." Manny said.

"Of course she is." Jay said then turned around, "I'll be in here." Jay said as he walked into the living room.

"I'll be right back." Gloria whispered to Whitney. Manny stood up from his chair and walked closer to Whitney.

"I'm sorry this didn't turn out like you wanted." Manny said.

"That's okay. Probably didn't turn out how you wanted it either." Whitney said.

"I'll tell you what. If neither of us is with anybody in 10 years, how about you and me give it a shot?"

"That's disturbing." Whitney said, pursing her lips.

"You can say that ag—" I began, But was cut off.

"But maybe." Whitney interrupted.

——

Gloria has finished Whitney's makeup and hair, and all that Whitney had to do now was to change into one of Gloria's old dresses. She had been upstairs for a few minutes before she spoke, "I'm a little nervous." She shouted from upstairs.

"Don't be." Gloria replied with a smile.

"I'm sure you look beautiful." Manny added.

"Yeah, very beautiful." I said, not too interested in what was happening. Whitney walked into the kitchen, making both Gloria, and Manny gasp.

"Woah!" Manny exclaimed. I glanced up from my book, then back down at it.

"What do you think?" Whitney asked nervously.

"Look at you!" Gloria laughed. "You're gonna be fighting men off with a stick." Gloria said as the doorbell rang. Gloria walked to the door.

"I don't know about that." Whitney said, sitting down next to me.

"Cameron!" Gloria said after she had opened the door.

"Hi. Sorry for the pop over, but I just wanted to bring you these to thank you for babysitting Lily again last night." Cam said, giving Gloria a vase with yellow tulips in.

"Oh!" Gloria said before kissing his cheek, "Mwah! ¡Gracias! You didn't need to do that." Gloria said as Cam entered the house, "You know I love Lily."

"I know." Cam smiled.

"Come in." Gloria led him to the kitchen, "Say hello."

"Hey, Cam." Manny And I said.

"Hi, Y/N. Hi, Manny."

"Cameron, this is my new friend, Whitney." Gloria said as Whitney walked towards Cam, "Whitney, this is Cameron."

"Hello. It's nice to meet you." Cam said as they shook hands. "That is a spectacular dress." Cameron admired her dress.

"This old thing?" Whitney chuckled.

"What about her hair?"

"Oh, my gosh. It's like Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were. One of my favourites."

"Me too." Whitney smiled. Cameron looked down and noticed Whitney's book,

"Okay, who is reading The Forvevers?"

"I am." Whitney smiled.

"I am so obsessed with this whole vampire thing right now."

"Me too. Um, I should really get going."

"Okay, Bye Whitney." Gloria And Cam said.

"Bye." She said, picking up her bag and left. I noticed she had accidentally left her book so I picked it up and walked outside.

"I just met the sweetest guy named Cameron." Whitney said, she was talking to someone on the phone. "I think he might be the one." She said excitedly.
I pursed my lips and looked down, after a second I looked back up and walked over to her.

"Here, you forgot this." I said, looking away from her.

"Oh, thanks." She said, taking the book off me. I walked back to the house, not saying anything else to her.
