Then after it was over it switched to another.
"But I'm on the outside and I'm looking in I can see through you, see your true colors 'Cause inside you're ugly, you're ugly like me I can see through you, see to the real you." I sang.
Halfway through the song I changed it to Muse recent release of 'Uprising' from their new album coming out soon called The Resistance.
The beat started and I moved. I imagined myself in a concert singing it. I took to the broom and used is a microphone.
I looked at my fake crowd.
"The paranoia is in bloom, the PR The transmissions will resume They'll try to push drugs Keep us all dumbed down and hope that We will never see the truth around (So come on!)." It had a catchy beat that just made me want to move all sensual and stuff.
"Another promise, another scene, another A package not to keep us trapped in greed With all the green belts wrapped around our minds And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on!).They will not force us They will stop degrading us They will not control us
We will be victorious. (So come on!)" I pumped my fist in the air for effect.
I heard a laugh and I yelped and looked to see Peter. I removed my ear buds.
"What the hell?" I said. My heart was racing.
He continued to laugh. I glared at him.
"It's so not funny." I said stomping my foot.
He stopped and looked at me. His green eyes full of life and happiness.
"I'm sorry pum--"
"Hey!" I said stopping him before he called me pumpkin.
"Right, right." He raised his hand.
"How did you get in?" I asked with my hands on my hips.
"Well, I was knocking for about five minutes but I knew you were there because I heard you singing so I just opened the door and let myself in. You know it's funny that you were singing Muse." He said reaching behind his pocket and took out two tickets.
My mouth dropped. "No way."
He nods. "They're in town just for this one day before they go on tour in America."
"You're not kidding?" I asked walking closer to him.
"Hey, I know they're your favorite band and I wouldn't joke. It's this Thursday but we have to leave early around three to get some good spot." He said.
"I'll get someone to cover for me." I smiled. "I get out at five, so it's only two hours." I smiled. "Oh, my God, I can't wait to tell Nathan."
"Uh..." Peter said nervously.
"What?" I asked.
"Don't you think it's best if he didn't know? If he knows you're going with me he's going to get all jealous and I don't want you two to start a fight because of me." He said.
Why didn't Nathan trust him? Sure, he would flirt and stuff but he didn't want to see me unhappy. I smiled at him and nodded.
"Thanks, Peter. You're so awesome. You've been incredible to me." I hugged him around the torso.
He hugged me back.
"You're worth it. I know it." I heard him say.
Nathan arrived six hours later. We had dinner together. I didn't say anything about the Muse concert. When we were done with dinner we went to the living room. We watched some movies.
He started to kiss my neck and I giggled.
Goosebumps formed.
I brought his lips to mine. I could never get enough of them. I felt so lucky to have him. I moaned when I felt his hand under my shirt. He smiled.
We rushed to the bedroom.
Two hours later we fell asleep.
I woke up the next morning. Nathan was still asleep and he still had time. When I walked out of the bathroom in my scrubs the bedroom was empty. I smelled eggs and bacon. I smiled. I walked in the kitchen and found Nathan serving the eggs.
"Hey," I greeted him.
He sets down the hot pan on the stove and walks over to me and kisses me. I wrapped my arms around him.
"Good morning." He said. "I made breakfast."
"I can see. Smells delicious."
Nathan turns on the small radio I had in the kitchen. I sat down and started to eat. He sat across from me and ate too.
"Until when are you working?" Nathan asked.
"Um, until six." I said.
"Do you want to meet for lunch?" He asked.
I nodded and then groaned. "No, wait, I can't. I promised Lucy I would go with her to find her dress or get a fitting or something."
"It's all right. Are you getting along with her?"
I shrugged.
"Are you making an effort?" He asks.
"Yeah. Sure."
"Melinda," He said.
"What do you want me to do Nathan? I'm not going to just trust her all of a sudden. Something fishy is going on."
"What could possibly be fishy?" Nathan laughs.
I glared at him. "You never know. They could be just faking the whole wedding."
"And for what? I'm not jealous she's getting married. In fact I find it quite all right. I'm happy that she finally is over us." Nathan said. "You're being paranoid."
"I'm being careful, there's a difference." I pointed my fork at him.
He laughs.
"Whatever, Peter would believe me." I muttered. Big mistake.
"Excuse me?" He said.
I looked at him. "Nothing." I said playing dumb.
"Peter is a different story." He said sternly.
"How?" I asked. "He's my best friend."
He raises an eyebrow. "Since when?"
"Since you were gone. For four years." I said.
"That isn't fair." Nathan said.
"You say you know Peter and you should know that he's been very helpful. He's been there for me a lot, Nathan."
"What about the fact that he loves you?" Nathan raised his voice.
I didn't like this.
"Look, he may feel that way but he knows I don't and that should be enough, Nathan. You don't have to trust him you need to trust me. I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. Like you wouldn't do anything to hurt me. Please respect that Peter is my friend."
He looks away angry.
He rubs his face with his hands and looks at me.
"I don't like him."
I groaned and rolled my eyes.
"You know what? Think it over. I'm going to work before we have a bigger fight about this." I said.
I stood up and walked over to the room and took my purse and cell phone. I didn't say good bye to him. I was too angry at him.
At work I was in a pissy mood. Nathan wanted me to be friends with someone I really didn't like. He didn't want me to be with my best friend.
It's just not fair.
I may love him crazy but he still can't boss me around.
He's my boyfriend not my father.
"What's wrong, love?" Mike hugged me with a single arm.
"Boyfriend problems." I sighed.
"Ah, not my area, I'm going to let Marcela take my place now." He said and walked away.
I laughed as Marcela came.
"So what is it? Did he cheat on you? Never mind he doesn't look like the cheating type. But then again most don't but in the end they're all the same." Marcela said.
"He's not cheating. He's... becoming overprotective. He thinks my best friend, Peter, is trying to separate us and he doesn't like me being around him. But I don't get along with his ex-girlfriend, Lucy yet he wants me to be all 'Yay we're best friends all of a sudden'." I said.
"Lucy is the girl that's getting married right?" Marcela asked.
I nod. "Yes."
"And Peter is your best friend who want to be more than just best friend, right?" Alondra chimed in.
"Yes."
"And Nathan is worried you might cheat on him?" Marcela asked.
"I don't know. He says he trusts me. Which he should because my feelings for Peter have only been in the friendship area. He knows it."
"So there was never a time when you saw yourself with him?" Alondra asked.
"Ehhh." I said stretching the word. "I did kind of made out with him once... I was drunk and we both agreed on never mentioning it. Well, I asked him not to mention it ever. Plus that night I was shitfaced." I shook my head.
"So there's a past! Does Nathan know?" Marcela asked.
"Hell no. I really don't plan on telling him. He'll just get more paranoid. Anyways, what should I do?"
"I think you should take Nathan's advice and stay away from Peter." Alondra said.
"What?" Marcela said. "And that would be the beginning where he starts running her life. Sweetie, you need to firmly tell him that you can be friends with a guy."
"But then they'll always keep fighting about him." Alondra rightfully pointed out.
"Yeah, but then will she ALWAYS do what HE wants?"
Alondra took that into consideration. "You're right... for once."
"So, you think I should still remain friends with Peter?"
"Yeah." They both said.
"So if I were to go to a concert with him it wouldn't be bad if I told Nathan?"
"A concert? To see who?" Alondra asked.
"Does it matter?" Marcela asked.
"Of course it matters." Alondra scoffed. "It says what your date expects of you. If he takes you to some hip pop concert he wants something from you. If he takes you to see Coldplay, he's definitely trying to bed you. So who is it?" Alondra asked.
"Um, it's a band that Nathan and I like a lot. Muse."
"He's definitely trying to steal you from Nathan." Alondra said.
"Yeah, that's kind of messed up. Does he know Muse is Nathan and your thing?" Marcela asked.
I bit my bottom lip. "Yeah. He knows a lot about Nathan and I. How we met, our problems and our drama."
"Here are your options. Miss an awesome concert and save your relationship or Go to the best concert of your life but take the risk Nathan might find out and break up with you." Marcela said gesturing her hands the weight of each situation.
"Oh god." I whispered. "Of course my relationship."
"OR! You could go to this concert and just never bring it up and it's brought up just say nothing happen. If he truly trusts you then he'll believe you." Alondra said.
"Why am I liking Alondra's idea better?" I said slowly.
She grins. "Because I'm a genius, hun."
"Sure, right. So, I go to the concert. I'm going to need someone to cover me for two hours." I said.
"I'll do it." Marcela said. "I've got nothing to do. When is it?"
"This Thursday." I said.
"No worries." Marcela said. "You go see Muse and you better bring lots of pictures and videos. Try to sneak backstage and invade Matt's room and get an autograph."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Stalk, much?" Alondra scoffed.
"What?" Marcela defended. "So I have a small crush on Matt."
"Small is an understatement." I laughed. "You know instead of sneaking in I could just go to the meet and greet session before the concert."
Marcela grinned. "That works too. And you might not get arrested."
"I think that's the best part." I said.
"Hey!" Lucy's voice came from behind me.
She was wearing expensive clothes again. I looked so ordinary next to her. Especially in my scrubs.
"Ready to go?" She asked.
I looked at my watch. It was lunch time. Time to go to the dress thing.
"Oh right." I said putting down the clipboard. I looked at my friends and they gave me a sheepish smile. "See you later."
"Bye." They both said
[Nathan's Point of View]
On Thursday night I had planned to take out Melinda for dinner but suddenly work just swamped me.
Lucy reminded me I had a proposal to finish.
So here I am in the office working on the proposal.
There's two light knocks.
"Come in." I said and Lucy walks in.
"Do you need anything else?" She asked.
I shook my head. "You can go home."
"All right. Are you staying in all night?" Lucy asked.
I stopped typing and rubbed my eyes.
"I'm not sure. This needs to get done by tomorrow." I yawned.
"How's Melinda? I haven't seen her since the dress fitting." Lucy said.
Truth was I haven't talked to her in two days. It's weird not seeing and talking to her for so long but work has been overwhelming.
"She's... fine. She's good. We're good."
Lucy smiled. "Well all right. I'm gonna go now."
A few seconds after Lucy left I decided to call Melinda.
Her answering machine from her house is what I got.
I tried her cell phone but it was turned off and it went straight to voice mail.
She always kept her phone on.

"Oh baby don't you know I suffer? Oh baby can't you hear me moan? You caught me under false pretences How long before you let me go? Oooh...You set my soul alight
Oooh...You set my soul alight." I sang along with Matt.
Peter and I were in the front.
"(oooh...You set my soul alight) Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive (oooh...You set my soul alight) Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive."
I moved with the slow beat.
"I thought I was a fool for no-one Oh baby I'm a fool for you You're the queen of the superficial And how long before you tell the truth Oooh...You set my soul alight Oooh...You set my soul alight (oooh...You set my soul alight) Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive (oooh...You set my soul alight) Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive (sucked into the supermassive)."
"Supermassive black hole Supermassive black hole Supermassive black hole Supermassive black hole Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive (oooh...You set my soul alight) Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive (oooh...You set my soul) Glaciers melting in the dead of night And the superstars sucked into the supermassive."
"Supermassive black hole Supermassive black hole Supermassive black hole Supermassive black hole."
They moved on to my other favorite songs.
"You having a good time?" Peter yelled in my ear.
"Hell yeah!" I yelled back.
I sang along to every song I knew. Peter seemed to know them too. I was happy. I was alive. After it was over I couldn't believe it.
"I've got another surprise for you." Peter said as we were going towards the backstage.
"No." I said unable to believe it.
"Yes." He said.
"But how?"
He takes out two plastics passes from his pocket.
"A friend of a friend." Peter smirked.
I giggled. "Are we going to be able to meet the band?"
"It's what these are for." He flashed the backstage passes.
We got past security and there was commotion around everywhere. I smiled and Peter held my hand as he got me through people.
Finally we were outside Muse's dressing room.
"I'm shaking." I laughed as I tried to calm myself down.
"It's okay." He said and knocked on the door.
Matt was the one who opened the door. He had a smile on his face.
"Peter!" Matt said.
My eyes widen. He knew Peter.
"Matt," Peter and Matt shake hands.
Matt turns to me.
"You must be Melinda. A big fan right?" He said.
I nodded my head. I felt my face turn red.
"Peter has told us a lot about you, come in." He opens the door.
I looked at Peter and he smiled. He took my hand and led me inside. Christopher and Dominic were on the couch drinking water.
"Peter!" Both of them said and did their man hugs and handshakes.
"Chris, Dom, meet Melinda." Peter said gesturing to me.
I waved at them.
"Wow, she really is as beautiful as you said." Christopher said.
"Thank you." I said.
"A well deserve compliment." Dominic said.
"You didn't told me you knew them, Pete." I said to Peter.
"Well I got the tickets from a friend." Peter smirked.
I narrowed my eyes.
"Devlin knows them and Devlin introduced them to me about a year ago at a concert." Peter said.
"You talked to Devlin before?" I whispered.
"We'll talk about that later. Come talk to the guys." He said.
[Later]
Peter and I got to my place around two in the morning.
"Was this a good night?" He asked when we crashed on my couch.
"The best night of my life." I said with a grin on my face.
"I'm glad I was there on the best night of your life." He said.
I turned my head and he was already looking at me. My heart started to thump. Maybe it was the beers I had.
I saw as his face got closer and closer. His lips just a centimeter from mine. Our lips only connected for about five seconds before I pulled out and stood up. I felt a little dizzy and almost fell backwards if it wasn't because Peter caught my arm.
"It's best if you go." I said. He stood up and got really close to me.
"You feel our attraction don't you?" He said. He also had a little too much to drink.
I shook my head lightly.
"Yes! Yes you do Melinda, I can see it in your eyes. You love me and I love you." He said.
"I love Nathan, Peter. I love him." I said trying to break away from him.
He held me tighter.
"He doesn't deserve you, Melinda. He lied to you for three years. He was so selfish. He was only thinking of himself and didn't think about your pain. Remember those nights you stayed up late just crying." He said.
"No." I whispered trying to block those dark moments in my life.
"Remember how you couldn't stop drinking because all you wanted was to forget him and you blamed yourself because he ended up in a coma and all this time he was awake!"
"Why are you telling me this?" I yelled at him.
"Because he doesn't deserve you, Melinda. I've been there for you all this time. I've loved you always." He presses his lips against mine.
I pushed Peter away.
"You should leave now." I pointed to the door.
"I'm sorry. I-I don't know what came over me, Mels, I swear." He said.
"We'll talk about it later. Just... go." I said avoiding eye contact with him.
He sighed walked away. I waited until I heard the door closing. I walked over to the door and locked it. I went to my room and slipped out of my jeans and took off the corset.
I then cursed because I forgot my coat in Peter's car. I put on my PJ's and tried to go asleep but the alcohol in my system wasn't helping. Plus I still had to go to work in four hours.
[Three Hours Later]
The alarm went off making me groan. I hit the off button and stayed in bed for a while. Finally when I scolded myself out I went to the shower and took it cold to wake me up.
I made myself some coffee after the shower. I checked my answering machine. There was one.
"New message." The operator said.
"Hey, Melinda, it's Nathan. I'm staying in late again in the office... just wanted to say hi since we haven't seen each other in two days. Call me when you get this. Bye, love you."
I sighed and went over to my phone. I turned it back on. It was just a missed call from Nathan and a couple of texts from Linda and Maya.
I texted back to Linda and Maya and then I called Nathan.
It only rang twice before he answered.
"Hey, I just got your message." I said. I felt a little nervous for some
