Flashback:
YOUR P.O.V.
It was quite a cold, rainy night today, a flock of crows were heard from the distance and I and my sibling we're in one room talking about what we wanted to become when we grow up. When suddenly, a knock was heard from the other side of the door. We went outside the room and looked at our mother as she rushed downstairs to see who it was. We thought it was another random person seeking for shelter for the rain but, it was our father, he was back from a work trip from Osaka, but to our surprise, he wasn't alone. He was with a pale-skinned man with curly hair, wearing a white hat and a white suit. He was grabbing the collar by our father's neck which made us shiver.
"What is the meaning of this?" our mother gasped in shock, looking at our father who was quivering in fear.
Though our father possessed incredible strength, this man must have been too strong to make my father shiver this much.
"Where is she?" the man asked in a serious tone.
"I told you, we don't know who that is." Our father replied, his tone was shaky as if he was still catching his breath from a fight, his face was covered with bruises and his hands were clenching on his stomach trying to ease the pain.
"Silence!" the man shouted. "I know she must be in here somewhere. Your blood smells the same as her."
"Who is this woman that you are seeking?" our mother asked, shivering in fear.
"A deer demon." He replied, one look in his eyes, left shivers down our spine, such an intense presence in just one gaze.
"Demon?" our mother asked, "There are no demons in this place."
"My senses tell me that you are not lying, yet you are not aware that your husband is practically a demon himself." He explained.
Our mother looked at our father in shock. "No, it can't be, we spent years together."
"Yes, you did. I just haven't triggered his demon blood yet." The man released our father's collar and scratched the back of his neck with his pointed fingernails and disappeared in a blink of an eye.
We came running downstairs to our father when suddenly, he started growling which made us pause mid-way. Our father started attacking our mother violently as though he was a demon himself. Our mother told us to run away but, our feet we're like glued unto the floor.
"Gabriela!" our mother called out to me. "Save your siblings, I love you all." She said as tears started falling from her eyes unto her cheeks. She pushed our father unto the wall pinning him but, he was too strong, and his demon senses must have made a rapid change to his strength.
My siblings and I ran towards the backdoor, I was holding Sana in my arms as I was grabbing Amajiki's wrist leading him the way outside as he was holding Hoshi. We reached my grandfather's house and thought that we lost him but, suddenly we heard a growl and as we looked, our father was running towards us with an immense speed.
As soon as he was about to reach us, a man wearing a brown-checkered haori with Hanafuda earrings blocked the way with his axe and told us to run away.
We told him that he was our father and that made him pause for a moment. Our father walked up to us slowly as we backed up. When suddenly, our grandfather came running outside the house.
"Use this!" he yelled at the man and threw him of what looked like a sword.
Our grandfather blocked our way of vision by hiding us in his haori. Then we heard a loud slice sound. I looked at my grandfather as tears rolled down from his eyes. He then led us towards his house without looking back. He told us to go to our grandmother's old room and to not leave the room until he says so.
I took my siblings by their wrists and led them towards our grandmother's own room. Our hands we're still shaking and on the back of my mind, I knew mother was already dead. I felt like a pent-up volcano. It's as if a piece of my puzzle was taken away from me, I couldn't think straight yet I had to comfort my younger siblings from crying. Amajiki was stuttering every single word he said, as Sana and Hoshi fell asleep between us from crying. I looked at the window and saw the man wearing Hanafuda earrings bidding my grandfather goodbye.
I looked at Amajiki but it seemed that he also fell asleep from crying. Then, another knock was heard, I opened the door and this time, it was my grandfather.
"A-Are they really gone?" I was stuttering and trying to contain my tears.
"I'm sorry chibi-chan."
My tears started falling from my eyes again as I hugged my grandfather.
That night, my grandfather slept with us. As days passed, I asked my grandfather about the man who saved us. He told me that he must have been a Demon Slayer.
"A demon slayer?" I asked. "Just like you?"
"Yes, chibi-chan." My grandfather replied, "Wait, how did you know?"
"I'm sorry for snooping around ojichan(grandfather) but, I read it in your workplace. Your face was plastered on an old newspaper which spelled out Former Demon Slayer Hashiras." I apologized.
"It's okay, chibi-chan. Well yes, I am a Demon Slayer and I hunt demons for a living when I was younger." He replied.
"You protect other people?" I asked in curiousity. "What is a hashira?"
"Yes, well they are the 10 most powerful swordsmasters in Demon Slayer Corps." He explained.
As an 11-year-old, I couldn't fully understand what my grandfather was explaining to me, but I knew in my heart that I wanted to become a Demon Slayer just like him and the man who saved us. I want to protect my siblings, and my grandfather just in case something goes wrong, and I want to protect other people from these man-eating demons also.
I tried gaining my grandfather's approval to teach me of the ways of a Demon Slayer, but he always refused. Days passed and I kept begging and begging until such time, he agreed to teach me as long as I stick to my promise to not get defeated by any demon. I agreed, and that's where my training begun.
