The sun was just beginning to set, it made the kitchen glow. The light bounced off of anything reflective and created small rainbows all over the room. Ally was sitting on the floor completely covered in flour. You were cleaning the mess that had been made.
You and Ally spent the last hour making chocolate muffins. While you were baking Ally had reached up to grab the bowl. It felt like everything was happening in slow motion, you saw the bowl start slowly falling towards the floor, the flour and sugar spreading over the kitchen. The bowl landed in a pile. Although the kitchen was now a mess it did not compare to ally, her entire dress was covered in a film of flour, she had flour in her hair, in her mouth, under her fingernails. It was everywhere. She only giggled and licked the flour, which resulted in a sour look.
The muffins were not going to take long in the oven so you decided to just let ally wander around in her flour covered dress. It was bath night anyways.
After giving Ally a bath and handing her off to Lilly you stumbled off to bed completely unaware of what the morning will bring.
~
"Y/n," Cordelia shook you awake, you groaned and opened your eyes. You looked at her and all you could see was panic. "Ally is missing." Cordelia breathed. Her voice sounded tight, like she was holding back a sob.
"Yeah whatever Cordelia." you laugh. Cordelia looks at you, her brown eyes bore into yours, you saw that she wasn't joking.
Ally is missing.
Cordelia started rambling, going over everything that happened that morning with you but you couldn't hear her. She sounded like she was underwater. Your blood pounded in your ears, your heart thudded in your chest. You could feel your hands shaking and your breathing shallow. Everything looked distorted, like you were looking through a lens. You had to get away, you had to look for Ally. tears welled into your eyes as you walked down the grand stairs. You could hear someone call after you but you couldn't understand what they were saying.
You were walking down the street, you had no idea where you were going. You just had to get away, you had to have space to breath. After a while of walking you found yourself at a park. This was the park you brought Ally too. Used to bring Ally too. Your legs were suddenly feeling weak so you walked towards the empty bench near you. The playground looked like a ghost town, the swings were still in the small breeze as if they were willing themselves not to move. The slides were empty and the woodchips looked undisturbed. You could feel hot streaks fall down your face as you stared at the empty playground. You imagined bringing Ally here and how her face would light up when she slid down the slides and her laugh when she would go high on the swings. The feeling of someone's arm around your shoulders is what snapped you out of your daydream. You turned and saw Cordelia's face. She faced the playground and you both sat on the bench silently.
Eventually you broke the silence.
"What happened?" you asked, your throat was dry so your voice was rough.
"It was lily's night. She had gone to the river with friends," Cordelia's voice broke, "someone took her from her crib, they had knocked everything over. I don't understand how i didn't wake up." Cordelia whispered the last part, like she was reprimanding herself. You couldn't say anything, you knew it wasn't lily's fault but you couldn't stop blaming her. If she had been there then none of this would be happening Ally would still be safe.
"Do you have a plan?" you asked, your voice sounded like a Childs. Cordelia looked towards the park again, tears stung her eyes, she knew she couldn't blink because if she did then the tears would fall and she wasn't sure if she would be able to have them stop.
"No," she whispered, her words started to echo around your head. Your sadness suddenly turned sour, you could feel something fill your chest. You stood abruptly and Cordelia's arm fell from your shoulders. "Where are you going?" Cordelia asked, she stood with you.
"Home, we need to make a plan," you said.
As you reached the house your pace started to slow. Usually when you went home you were greeted with Ally's big brown eyes. Cordelia noticed how you slowed down and she stood next to you. She put her hands on your shoulders again.
"We'll do it together." she said, it was as if she had read your mind. You grabbed her hand and walked up the stairs that lead to the grand two door entrance. Cordelia flicked her hand and the door opened. The house was unnervingly quiet. You and Cordelia stepped through the doorway into the seemingly empty house. Suddenly a girl came running towards you. Her black hair was in a knot and her cheeks were tear stained. In different circumstances she would be beautiful but now all she was is guilty and devastated. She embraced you in a hard hug, the force she hit you with made you take a few steps backwards.
"I'm so sorry. I am so so sorry," the girl whispered against your nightgown. She started to try and explain herself but was cut off by a strong authoritative voice.
"Enough," Cordelia snapped. Her voice rang through the quiet house. "I will come find you in a few minutes, but until then do not talk to any of the other girls, do you understand?" Cordelia said, her voice was lined with venom.
"Yes, Miss Goode." Lily's voice sounded small. She let go of your dress and started to walk away, her eyes never lifted from the floor.
"Lily," you called after her, she was only a few steps ahead of you but getting to her seemed to take forever. "I forgive you," you whispered, you knew how hard it was to be a teenager with magical powers, nothing made sense and you just want to be normal. You could see why she had snuck out, it could have happened to anyone. Lily couldn't help but hug you, tight. You caressed her black hair in your hands, she was only a child, if it was anyone's fault it would be yours. You left Ally with her.
