The next morning, I dressed in pants and a tunic and grabbed a crossbow and made my way downstairs.
"Verity!" I froze, and turned around.
Susan stood at the stairs,"Where are you going?"
"Hunting with Peter and Edmund," I answered coolly.
"No, you will not," Susan returned,"You're staying here."
"Peter said I could go," I retorted,"So I'm going."
I decided it was my time to leave, I raced outside to the stable, where my brothers were getting ready.
"Hurry!" I jumped onto Fidelia my horse,"Before Susan comes."
"What's Susan going to do?" Edmund asked.
"She didn't approve," I stated.
"Peter Pevensie!" I heard Susan shout.
I looked at my oldest brother,"I told you."
Susan appeared red in the face,"What are you thinking!"
Peter went off his horse,"What, because I let Verity come along with us?"
"She shouldn't go hunting, it's too dangerous," Susan explained.
"So does that mean we should not serve tea anymore, because our Uncle James almost died one time while he was drinking tea, because it was too hot," Peter informed her.
"Peter, don't be ridiculous, hunting is even more dangerous," Susan said annoyed.

I raised my eyebrows,"I've faced more dangers than that." I remarked."Like drinking tea."
"I don't see why Verity shouldn't go, Su," Peter climbed back on his horse,"And if anything should happen, she'll be with us."
I gave Susan a look of triumph,"And I am not working on my needlework anymore!" I shouted as we left.
We rode to the woods. It was still and quiet and the trees were already turning green. I could smell spring, which was already here.
"So what are you hunting?" I asked, as we got off our horses.
"Quiet," Edmund hissed,"You'll scare them away."
"Them?"
"Deer, all of Narnia's been complaining that they're ruining their harvest," Peter explained.
"And you didn't tell me," I glared at him,"Just because we're girls doesn't mean you have to keep secrets like that from us. We rule this land, too."
"Well, it isn't a big secret," Edmund replied.
"Get down!" Peter shouted, pulling me down beside him behind a bush.
We waited ,our crossbows in our hands, waiting. I looked over at Edmund, who was not far from us.
We waited and waited and waited. Who could enjoy this! Just waiting for a wild deer to show up! But I actually liked it, to hear the rustling of the grass and the whispers of the trees and to smell the aroma of chrysanthemums, lilacs, and other flowers.
Sometimes I did like to stop talking and listen to nature and see the creator in every part. My God still existed here and it gave me such comfort.
Where could I flee from his presence. If I went down to the depths he was there.
"I'm surprised, Verity," Peter said,"A whole hour and you haven't said a word."
"I love it out here," I answered,"It's way better than having to spend my day inside."
"Quiet! You two!" Edmund whispered to us.
We both fell silent and waited, it wasn't long before I heard a noise. I straightened and looked up. A deer wondered part us, a buck with huge antlers. It stopped to eat grass. Peter nodded to me and I lifted my crossbow and pressed the trigger. The arrow flew and hit the deer which collapsed on the ground.
I grinned at my progress.
"Well done, Verity," Peter said, as we looked over the deer.
"Guess, I'm not that bad of an amateur," I crossed my arms,"What do we do with it?"
"Give it away to some Narnians who do not have much food," Edmund replied.
"I'll tell Orieus to bring it back to Cair Paravel later," Peter said.
"Peter!" I heard someone cry.
We turned around, Lucy ,riding her horse, came toward us, a terrified look on her face.
"What is it?" He asked.
"There's been an attack, a tiger," she explained,
"Hurry!"
We got on our horses and raced back to Cair Paravel.
"A tiger attacked a village nearby," Lucy told us,
"Few survived, a dwarf named Barrington is injured at Cair Paravel. He ran there with a wounded leg to tell us and this isn't the first attack."
I looked both of my brothers. A tiger! The woods seemed dangerous and not as friendly as they were before.

When we reached Cair Paravel a crowd was gathered outside. We pushed through it to the front where a dwarf lay, his leg bleeding. Lucy got on her knees and gave him her cordial.
I looked over at my two other sisters. There was a look of fear written on their faces.
The dwarf coughed and opened his eyes. He eyed my oldest sibling."High King Peter!"
"Yes," my brother stepped forward.
"I was looking for you," the dwarf explained,"Not even an hour ago, a tiger attacked our village. He almost killed everyone and that wasn't the first time."
"Why didn't we hear anything?" Peter asked.
"Everyone's too frightened turned to leave their homes. He's called the Bartiger, his teeth are as strong as iron bars and that is no exaggeration," he explained.
I cringed.
"Is he a wild tiger?" Edmund asked.
"He's more than a wild tiger, he's like the white witch herself," the dwarf answered.
Lucy shuddered and moved to Peter, who pulled her to his side, holding her close.
"The white witch?" Ruth asked scared.
"He's a killer, wild tigers don't usually kill like that," he informed us.
"We'll kill him, don't worry," I said confidently.
"No, you won't," Susan retorted,"You could get hurt."
"Since when would it stop Queen Verity," Mr. Tumnus replied.
"It shouldn't stop anyone," Edmund said.
"No fear, Barrington, we'll kill him," Peter answered just as confidently.
