Audrey Pov
Dean and I drove to the hospital behind the ambulance. I tried not to cry but the tears were rushing out.
"It's going to be okay. Bradley is tough." Dean said as he rubbed my shoulder.
"I know he is but what happened. Has this happened before?" I said as I wiped my face.
"Bradley has always been a troubled boy. When he was 12 we found out that he was Bipolar. Whenever he got angry, he turned into a different person. It's like he would go crazy. He put himself in the hospital multiple times because of his anger. He wouldn't take his medicine but the doctor told us to let him find ways to express his anger. Then when he was down, it was like he was depressed. He wouldn't leave his room, he wouldn't go to school, it was like he wasn't capable of doing anything. He finally started expressing himself through music and writing." Dean said as he pulled into the hospital parking lot.
"I don't know what to say. I didn't know." I said simply as I looked out of the window and at the paramedics who were taking Bradley out of the back.
"You don't have to say anything. Just be there for him. Never leave him. He loves you. I have never seen him love someone so much before." Dean said as he cut the engine and took the car keys out. He looked at me and then got out of the car.
I got out of the car and bent down to tie my shoe. I just threw something on because we needed to leave. I was wearing a North Carolina Tar Heel hoodie, black jeans, and black and white vans. My hair was up in a bun and I was wearing my glasses.
I followed Dean into the hospital as I twisted the ring , Brad gave me around , my finger.
"Go ask for Bradley. You have to start doing this because it will happen a lot." Dean said softly. I nodded and made my way to the counter.
"Hi. How may I help you?" The lady behind the counter asked. She was wearing scrubs with ducks on them and her hair was in a ponytail.
"Hi. I'm looking for Bradley Simpson." I said as I kept twisting the ring around my finger.
"Who are you to him?" She asked as he typed his name up on the computer.
"I'm his girlfriend." I said as I looked around the lobby.
"Alright. He is in room 625." She said as she pointed me in the direction of the elevators. As I started walking, Dean got up and followed me.
"I really thought she was going to say I needed to have his mom up here or something." I said as we waited for the elevator.
"I know her. She is an old friend. She used to talk to Brad all of the time. She was kind of an outlet for him. After a while he distanced himself from her." Dean said as he let me go into the elevator first.
"Ohh okay." I said as I leaned up against the railing in the elevator as the doors closed.
I closed my eyes and the elevator ride went smoothly. The elevator stopped, signalling that we were at the floor. When we got off the elevator we walked down a long hallway. It smelled like latex and sick people. I walked past many rooms with people throwing up over the railing of their beds or people coughing and hacking like a lung was about to fly out of their mouth at any moment. I covered my mouth and walked faster to catch up with Dean.
We turned down a hallway that had a dead end and ended up at Bradley's door.
"Do you want to go in first?" Dean whispered to me.
"No. You can go first." I said softly. Dean just nodded.
He tapped lightly on the door and no one answer. He cracked the door open and then walked in slowly. I walked in afterwards.
Bradley was hooked up to different machines. One keep track of his heart beat. One to keep up with his blood pressure. I studied Brad's body as his chest slowly rose and fell. I studied the tubes in his nose and the tubes that ran down his arms. I slowly walked over to him and brushed the hair out of his eyes. I ran my fingers softly across his cheek. I bent down and kissed his lips. I stood up and I walked over to the window seat.
"Dean?" I asked softly as I looked over the city.
"Yes drey?" He asked as he typed away on his phone.
"Who are you texting?" I asked.
"The rest of the boys. They have to know as well right?" He said as he slid his phone in his pocket.
As soon as he stuck his phone in his pocket, my phone rang. Never Be Alone by Shawn Mendes started to play. I checked the caller ID and it was Rose.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Oh my lord Audrey! Why didn't you text us about Brad being in the hospital?" Rose said as she started talking in the background.
"I wasn't thinking about telling anyone. I'm sorry, and who is that you are talking to?" I asked.
"Oh it was James. He was getting the keys to the car and got the wrong set. We are coming up there." She said in a stern voice.
"You guys don't have to come right now. You can come later on when he wakes up. I'll text you when he does." I said in a reassuring voice.
"Mhm okay, but I swear Audrey if I don't get a text from you and I have to hear from James about him waking up, You and I will be fighting." She said.
"Okay Rose. I'll text you later. I need to be by Bradley's side right now." I said as I sighed.
"Alright drey. You are a good girlfriend." She said sweetly.
"Well this is only the beginning for him and I. We have more days like this to come. I'm just going to be here for him like he would be there for me." I said simply.
"Wise words my friend. Wise words. I'll let you get going. Love you drey." Rose said as she chuckled.
"Alright. Talk to you later." I said as I hung up.
"That was beautiful Audrey." Dean said as he turned towards me.
"Yeah, well. I love Bradley and I will be by his side through anything, and if that means I have to sit in this hospital room with him, I will." I said as I took my glasses off to clean the lenses.
"That's sweet, but what about school for him?" Dean asked.
"Maybe you can go get his work and I can just teach him or we can start homeschooling. We won't leave the house and he can dedicate more of his time to the band as well." I suggested as I went over to the bed and sat in the chair next to Bradley. I grabbed his hand and kissed his hand.
"That's not a bad idea. I'll call Joe. I'll be back." Dean said as he walked out of the room.
After Dean left the room, I just sat there and rubbed circles in the back of Brad's hand. I leaned over and kissed his nose. I then noticed a small smile curl onto his lips.
"Bradley? Are you okay?" I asked as I looked at him more intently.
"Yes. I'm better than okay since I have the love of my life beside me." He said as he voice got cut through his raspy voice.
"Aww. Let me get you a nurse." I said as I pressed the nurse button.
"Okay, but I love you Audrey. I heard everything you said and I love you more than anything." Bradley said as he lightly caressed my cheek with his hand. I slowly bent down and pressed my lips against his.
