Chapter 77 - Eli
Jim fits the blue gem of his amulet into the door. It slots in perfectly.
Jim breaths a sigh of relief as the door swings open.
We all walk through, Jim being last and grabbing the gem out of the door.
The next room is dark. Claire pulls out a flashlight.
There are pictures, like cave drawings across the back wall.
"That's Killahead." Claire says, pointing to the image furthest away.
"And there's Jimbo." Toby says, pointing to a picture of Him in what I assume to be The Darklands.
"Its like a timeline." Claire says.
"That's..." Steve mutters, but trails off mid sentence.
I walk over to him. He's looking at one of the drawings. I lean my head on his shoulder and his muscles relax slightly.
My eyes drift toward the drawing Steve is looking at. It's black and white unlike the rest of the pictures which are fully coloured. Then I saw the three strips of color near the center.
Blue, purple, pink.
"That's the Bi flag..." Steve says. "That was yesterday."
I take his hands in mine and turn him away from the picture.
"It's not your fault. He would have found out eventually."
Steve nods and looks away.
I tilt his chin so he looks at me. "Say it, say that it wasn't your fault. You have to believe it because it's true."
Steve squints his eyes and exhaled. "It wasn't my fault." He says, opening his eyes.
"God don't make a scene and kiss in front of everyone we have stuff to do." Toby says.
I feel my face heat. I whip around to face him. "Why? You got a problem with that?" I hiss.
"What? No. Just, can you do it when the world isn't ending."
Heat rises to my face. "We weren't gonna kiss anyway."
"So you're not-"
I cut him off. "Now look who's waiting time."
Toby and I argue untill Claire hears something and tells at us to shut up.
Then I hear it too. The sound of gears turning. Along with soft footfall.
Claire flings the beam of light from her flashlight around the room. It settles on one of the cave drawings. This one has all of us in our exact stances with a pale Creeper standing above us.
We stay dead silent, no one willing to break it. I take out the sword and hold it in front of me.
A horrible chill goes down my spine. Then pain, so much pain. I collapse to my knees and clutch my side. Its warm and sticky. The air smells faintly of iron. I pull my hand away. It's covered in blood. I suddenly feel lightheaded.
Steve rushes over to me. He says something, but I can't hear over the ringing in my ears.
I take in a sharp breath and clench my teeth to keep from screaming. My vision blurs and what small light is illuminated by Claire's flashlight fades away.
