"Okay, here are everyone's phones," Victor stated passing them around. They had met up in Luke and Gabriel's room before classes. Victor had stayed up late the night before in order to upgrade the phones. "They all now contain an app that will allow everyone to connect with Lyoko." All the boys snatched their phones quickly looking very excited.
"Yay, I get to talk to my Sugar," Luke exclaimed opening the app before anyone could protest.
"Hello," they heard a familiar voice greet. Suddenly everyone was crowding around Luke and his phone.
"Sugar! Now I can talk to you anytime!" Luke exclaimed holding the phone closer to his face. Gabriel smacked the back of his head but moved closer still.
"Move the phone back fucker and let her see something more than your fucking face." Luke rolled his eyes dramatically but did as his friend requested.
"Hello Gabriel," Sang greeted. They could tell she was still in a tower sitting on the platform.
"Hey Trouble, what have you been up to?" Gabe asked her. The others dispersed around the room getting the stuff they needed for class. But every single one of them was still focused on the conversation between their brothers and the small girl.
"I have been using the internet to learn more about your world," she stated. They all shared looks and smalls smiles at her enthusiasm. "Is everyone there?"
"Everyone but Doc and Mr. B," Luke replied panning the camera around the room. She greeted them all remembering everyone's name.
"What are you all getting ready for?" she asked after Luke turned the camera back on himself and Gabe.
"We have school in like fifteen minutes," Luke told her doing his best to look devastated. Suddenly his face brightened. "But if you're lonely, I could stay and talk with-"
North walked behind him and quickly cuffed him on the back of the head.
"You are not skipping class." Luke rubbed the back of his head and glared at his brother.
"Would you people stop abusing me?!" Before anyone could answer a small giggle was heard that made everyone pause. The sound cut off when the silenced stretched on. Silas quickly snatched the phone.
"You should laugh more often aggele mou."
"We need to be leaving or we'll be late for class," Kota announced gaining everyone's attention. He took the phone from Silas who went to grab his bag.
"I read about school. It's where you learn new things, right?" Sang asked him as he moved toward the door.
"Yes, that is basically what it is. I can tell you more about it later if you want," he said not wanted to hang up on the girl but they needed to head to class. They didn't need to give McCoy anything that he could use against them.
"Yes please. Your world is so fascinating," she told him with awe in her voice. She had been researching since they left the factory. She wanted to know everything about the world she was from.
"We'll make sure to call you later. If you notice anything wrong you can alert any of us, okay?" he told her pausing in front of the door.
"Will do, talk to you later." With that the screen went blank and the girl was gone. Kota handed the phone back to Luke before exiting the room. Victor hurried after him and quickly passed him heading toward Mr. B and Sean's office. He needed to deliver their phones before the late bell.
The other boys headed to class as usual. Everything seemed the same, but at the same time everything was different for them now. Kota especially was catching himself becoming extra paranoid. Every time the lights flickered or something went wrong his mind immediately jumped to a certain sentient supercomputer. He could only hope that things would be quiet for a while.
Again, it wasn't until lunch when the entire younger seven got back together again. Kota discerned that most of the morning for everyone consisted of some trying to contact Sang again while others kept them from getting in trouble by doing so. They only had known this girl for a few days and already she was the only thing it seemed that his team could think about.
As he surveyed the group Victor opened his laptop and began typing away. Soon he began quietly talking to it. What would have once only mildly concerned everyone now drew everyone's immediate attention because they all knew who he was talking to.
"How is everything from your side?" Victor asked her as he worked on her code. It was very corrupted. He didn't know how it became this bad. It almost looked like someone did it intentional like they didn't want her getting out of Lyoko. He didn't know for sure though and wouldn't bring up the possibility till he had proof either way. He didn't want to hurt her especially if it turned out to be nothing.
"It's all pretty calm here. I haven't felt any pulsations," she told him happy he had contacted her again. Before she met them, she didn't feel lonely being by herself but now that she knew what connecting to another person felt like, she craved it.
"That's good, still researching?" he asked smirking. He found it cute that she was working so hard to learn anything and everything she could about their world. She was clueless but it was cute to see her so determined. She nodded emphatically.
"I found these things called school dramas. They seemed to document the life of school age humans. I find them fascinating but people have a tendency to be very dramatic and sensitive it seems." They all smile while some laugh blatantly at her words. Kota having some control turned the computer to face him. He suppressed the smile that wanted to appear at the look of pure confusion on her face.
"Those are fictional depictions of fictional characters greatly exaggerating real life in order to be entertaining," he explained.
"Oh, that makes more sense. I beginning to worry your lives were very much endangered by attending school," she stated very relieved. The school dramas made schools look that magnets for all sorts of near fatal to extremely fatal dangers. She didn't know these boys well but they were all she had at this point and they were willing to help her even though VOLTO could attack their world at any moment.
The rest of lunch was spent correcting Sang's misunderstanding from the so-called school dramas and answering any other questions she had. They were all sad when the bell rang and they had to hang up.
Sang went back to her research suffering the internet. She was beginning to feel frustrated. Everything she read to try and understand something only gave her more questions. Then she would look up something else to help her understand and only end up with even more questions. It was a never ending cycle in her eyes. She was just too clueless about everything. She banged against the floor feeling defeated. Her head fell to her hands as she stared at the platform floor.
"Miss Sang?" a familiar voice asked. She whipped her head up only to come face to face with perfection. This must be Owen, or Mr. B as the boys call him. He doesn't look that much older than them though. She tilted her head slightly confused by his formality now.
"Miss Sang?" he asked again seeming slightly agitated now.
"Oh," she replied shaking her head slightly, "Sorry, what did you need?"
"You called me, Miss Sang," he told her not knowing what to make of this girl. He was currently waiting in his and Sean's office for the doctor to get back from his class.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she said again feeling bad. "I didn't mean to."
"How did you come by calling me then?" he asked her. Noticing her hesitation he pressed on. "Is something the matter? Is VOLTO acting up?" His heart raced at the possibility of another attack so soon after the last one.
"Oh no, nothing like that," she reassured him. "I was feeling frustrated and must have hit the platform just right that it somehow called you." She looked down feeling bad for disturbing him. He was so much more intimidating than the other boys. She felt small and insignificant in front of his cold gray eyes.
"Why were you feeling frustrated?" he asked her a new type of concern growing even though he was thankful it wasn't VOLTO that had her contacting him.
"I just have a lot of questions about things and the internet is only giving me more questions," she explained her problem briefly.
"You can ask me and I will try my best to answer any of your questions," he told her surprising both of them with his offer.
"Are you sure? I have a lot."
"I'm sure."
When Sean came back from his unruly Japanese class the last thing he expected to walk in on was Owen answering question after question from a certain not-so-virtual girl. Well maybe not the last thing but pretty darn close.
Some questions he had to make sure to hold in his laughter at as he situated himself at his desk and others were so heart wrenching he wanted to drag Victor over to the factory so that he could give Sang a hug.
"What does the sun feel like?" she asked Owen. He was reclined back in his chair looking much more relaxed than he normally was.
"It's hard to explain but I will try. It is very bright, so bright that it hurts to look directly at it. But standing in sunlight feels like a warm blanket being wrapped around your skin."
The final bell rang out dismissing the students and teachers alike. Sang's eyes widened at the sound.
"I'm so sorry. I've kept you busy when you probably had work to do," she sounded devastated at the aspect. Well, Sean couldn't stand that.
"Don't worry Pookie all you did was save Owen from another stuffy, boring, routine filled day." She giggled again at the ridiculous nickname.
"It was a pleasure talking to you," Owen told her honestly.
"Thank you, it was nice to have someone to talk to." Both men froze in that second realizing the same thing. The boys and they had taken to contacting her whenever they felt like it. They could talk to each other as well others whenever they wanted but she was stuck. She depended on them for any communication. In that moment they both realized how lonely she must be, all by herself stuck in a tower all day.
"Miss Sang, feel free to contact us anytime."
"You better, Pookie, or else," Sean threatened dramatically making her giggle again. She nodded in the affirmative before ending the call.
The two men gathered their things and headed off campus. Since it was Friday all the boys would be heading to their apartment for a team dinner. They normally all ate together or at least in groups but Friday was a more formal affair. They rotated who cooked though Sean was left out of the rotation for good reason. This week it was the Taylor brothers turn to cook.
They arrived last due to traffic and headed in. The others were already setting the table. Luke informed them the food was almost ready. Owen sat down as Gabriel arranged the silverware around all the plates. Everyone else joined them as Luke and North moved the food onto the table. Looking around Owen realized that there was ten place settings instead of nine.
"Hey Sang," he heard Gabriel say. He found him holding Victor's computer in his hand. He arranged the computer screen facing the table at the tenth unoccupied place setting. "We were just sitting down to eat."
"Hi, everyone!" she greeted cheerfully. Owen let a small smile slip at the thoughtfulness of his team. She looked overjoyed to be included. They all started piling food onto their plates.
"What's that?" she asked the nearby Luke pointing to the mountain of mashed potatoes forming on his plate.
"These are my famous loaded mashed potatoes. I'll make sure to make them for you when we get you out of there," he stated confident it was only a matter of when and not a matter of if. Owen realized he shared his determination. They would free her and show her everything this world had to offer from feeling the sun on her face to trying Luke's so called famous loaded mashed potatoes.
