"You guys need to Sang to the tower, now!" Victor told them urgently. Nathan, Gabriel, and Sean were doing their best but VOLTO seemed to have sent out an entire army to fight them. Two blocks corner Gabe pushing him down another path. He dropped from sight as Sang focused on the tower yards away from her.
Nathan was trying to fight this crab looking thing while Sean was dealing with a few flying hornets. Overall they were winning just not fast enough.
"The trains have two minutes until collision," Victor's voice was panicked. VOLTO was trying to force two electronically controlled trains to collide. One of which was carrying a poisonous gas which when released upon the explosion would widen the impact range significantly. They couldn't allow that to happen.
Seeing her chance, Sang darted forward. She breathed a sigh of relief as she entered the tower. Entering the code she could hear cheers coming from the factory room.
"Tower deactivated," she told them. She walked out of the tower just as the boys finished the last of the monsters.
"Where is Gabe?" she asked looking around before anyone could answer her, Victor brought the boys back to the real world. Kota was waiting at the scanners with Luke and North ready to help his brothers. Nathan and Sean stepped out of the scanners looking exhausted but solid on their feet. Kota helped Sean to the elevator while North grabbed Silas.
Luke shouted in surprise at seeing his best friend passed out in the bottom of the scanner. He quickly raced to him, Sean not far behind him.
"Gabe, wake up!" Luke panicked holding his unresponsive friend. Sean checked Gabe's pulse and found it to be strong.
"He's probably just exhausted. Let's get him back to the apartment." With Kota's help, Luke carried Gabe to the elevator and they rushed out of the factor and to Owen and Sean's apartment.
"What's going on? Is Gabe okay?" Sang asked Victor.
"He was unconscious in the scanner when he came back. He will be fine after he sleeps some," he told her trying to not make her worry. She had enough to deal with being trapped in a virtual world and all.
"Okay, tell him to call me when he wakes up." He promised that he would before hanging up with her.
Sang was worried. She tried to be rational and listen to Victor's words but for some reason she couldn't stop herself from worrying about Gabriel. He had been to Lyoko before, multiple times, and this had never happened to any of them. Even when they were devirtualized by the monsters, they had never passed out.
With too much energy to stay in the tower, she decided to head out and wander around. The tower was just deactivated so VOLTO would be quiet for at least a little while.
Luke was beyond relieved when Gabe woke up the next morning. He seemed to be perfecting fine but Sean still required him to sit through a check-up. For once, Gabe didn't complain about it. Actually, Gabe wasn't really saying anything really which Luke found weird. Gabe was usually very talkative.
It wasn't until Gabe said a complete sentence without a cuss word that Luke began to get suspicious. VOLTO could manipulate living things, the rats were proof of that. He shuddered remembering the devil rat army.
Could it have been possible that VOLTO was somehow controlling Gabe? Luke didn't want to doubt his friend but when he asked to go to the factory it all but confirmed his suspicion. Kota agreed to go with him, and Victor decided to tag-along as well.
Luke was supposed to head to class but he couldn't ignore this feeling. He followed them to the factory just close enough to overhear their conversation. Kota and Victor talked about Sang's code but Gabriel rarely said anything. Luke didn't think he had heard him cuss all day. Something was very wrong.
They had just gotten on the elevator to head down to the lab when a hand grabbed Luke's shirt collar. He was whipped around and came face to face with his little brother.
"What are you doing, Lucian?" North asked him obviously mad that he had to follow him all the way to the factory.
"Something's not right with Gabe," Luke tried to explain. "He's not himself."
"He passed out coming back from Lyoko, It probably scared him," Silas suggested. North nodded along with his explanation.
"He's fine. They're going to check about what happened which they can do without you," North attempted to drag him away from the factory but Luke dodged out of his grip.
"I know him. He's my best friend. I think VOLTO did something to him," he pleaded with his brother. North sighed and headed into the factory. Luke and Silas followed close behind.
"Okay, we will go check on Gabe but when we see that he is fine, we will go to class." Luke nodded because he knew they wouldn't see that he was fine. Gabriel was most definitely not fine.
Sang found herself back by the tower they had just deactivated. She wandered through the clearing where the boys had battled the monsters. Off to the side, the path that Gabe disappeared down. She headed toward it.
The path was winding and led to a small clearing almost underneath the deactivated tower. She stepped onto the clearing and started when she felt a familiar pulse.
A tower was activated. VOLTO was attacking. Again.
Victor was sitting at the computer with Kota and Gabe behind him when they exited the elevator. Gabe looked back at them but there was no warmth in his blue eyes. North had to admit, his mannerisms were very different.
"Gabe, you feeling okay?" North asked him. Kota looked at them questioningly.
"What are you doing here?"
"Somethings wrong with Gabe. He's not acting like himself," Luke explained not taking his eyes off of his best friend. Gabe didn't react to the comment which they all found weird. None of them were prepared for the sinister smirk that spread across his face or the familiar symbol that flashed in his eyes.
Sang followed the pulses as fast as she could. Glancing around, she finally spotted the red tower in the distance. She stopped before she got too close. She had to warn the others. She turned to run back to the other tower but stopped when she noticed a weird glow off to her left.
She ran toward it out of instinct. Ducking behind a rock, she peeked around and took in the familiar figure floating in some sort of energy ball. Two hornets circled the ball of energy but Sang didn't pay them any mind. She couldn't stop staring at Gabriel. Gabriel was still in Lyoko. So who went to the real world with the others?
She raced back to the tower hoping she wasn't too late.
The four of them stared at Gabe in shock. Gabriel started to laugh but it had a mechanical quality to it, almost like he was a robot. Before any of them could do anything, Sang's face popped up on the screen. She panted like she was out of breath.
"I found Gabriel. He's still here on Lyoko. There's an activated tower and I think VOLTO is using it for the fake Gabriel that appeared in the real world with you." The boys stared at the fake Gabriel in shock. Kota recovered first.
"North, Silas, go," he told them. Without hesitation they grabbed the fake brother forcing him into the elevator. They went back to the ground floor. He fought against them hard. He was definitely stronger than he should have been.
"Let's go, Luke," Kota told him heading for the elevator. They went the opposite way to the scanners. Their brother needed a rescue.
Sang was watching Gabe's floating form when Kota and Luke joined her. She explained the situation to them. First things first, they had to take care of the monsters which meant getting them away from Gabriel.
Luke and Kota shouted at them drawing their attention before running towards the activated tower. Once they were out of sight, Sang made her move. She approached Gabriel putting one hand against the energy. It felt solid like stone. She couldn't break it.
"Gabriel, wake up," she pleaded. She had no idea how to free him. She wished he could hear her. Just then he twitched. She froze in shock. She thought about it and realized she had wished for it and it occurred. It wouldn't hurt to try.
She sat down on her knees placing her hands in her lap. She closed her eyes and pulled for the power within her that she felt only moments earlier. It came up quickly. Faster than she thought. Immediately she pictured what she wanted to happen wishing for Gabriel's freedom. Behind her eyelids she felt something glowing.
The power went away as fast as it had come. She opened her eyes and met crystal blue ones looking back at her.
"Sang? What happened?" Gabriel asked thoroughly confused.
"Gabe?! Are you alright?" Victor asked from the factory relieved to hear his brother's voice.
"Of course, I am fucker," Gabe replied definitely himself. "What the fuck is going on?"
"I'll explain on the way," Sang told him pulling him toward the still activated tower. With the four of them working together it didn't take long for them to deactivate the tower and return to the past.
"You fuckers didn't notice anything wrong?!" Gabriel shouted at his family. "Oy, no computer can fucking pull this off." His teammates couldn't help but smile. Their Gabe was truly fucking original.
