Kooks and Pogues, a tale as old as time. Emma Acherman, the main character for this story is sharing her adventures on the outer banks and the Pogues. A little background information to make the story more understandable:

Emma (Em) Acherman is a young 16-year-old who rolls with the problematic crew, The Pogues:

John B Routledge, The leader of the group, the oldest of them all at 18. No father, No mother. He has a little house, boat, and van all to himself, which the pogues use as theirs.

Pope Heyward, The smart one, is the second-oldest at 17. His parents own a seafood store, which he works at to save up for college.

James (JJ) Maybank, The comedic one, is the third oldest at 17 by a month. He has no mother and his father is a drunk.

Kiera (Kie) Carrera, the one with the strict parents. The fourth oldest at 16, she's older than Emma by 2 months. She is a born Kook but a Pogue at heart.

If you do not know, Kooks are the rich and snooty of the island they live on and the Pogues are the poor of the island, most of them don't have parents.
