Maddie's pov:

When Dylan texted me early this morning I sort of freaked out and made up something things.

I mean it wasn't a total lie, I did have cheer and I sort of had a family thing. Kind of.. okay not really.

I just... didn't want to give her the wrong idea or anything. I think it's better if we work on the project in a public setting.

Ugh fuck am I thinking like an asshole. I mean just because she's gay doesn't mean shes like into me or whatever.

Well I already told her I wasn't free so it's fine.

But I should probably actually make plans do I don't feel like a total asshole.

I walked down the hall to my sisters room to see if she was awake. I knocked loudly on her door.

"What?" I heard her say from inside.

I opened the door and saw her lying on the floor with her computer. She was still in her pajamas.

"What are you doing on the floor" I asked.

"Studying"

"On the floor?"

"It's comfy"

"Mmm okay" I said, stepping more into her room. "Hey you wanna do something with me before I go to cheer"

She looked up at me but didn't answer.

"I guess thats a no then"

"Sorry." She said. "I'm just hanging out with friends later and I have so much homework to do. I want to get it all done. But maybe we can do something another time" she said. I could tell she felt bad.

"Yeah sure thats fine." I said, smiling at her.

I went back to my room and sat on my bed. My phone started buzzing and when I checked who it was I was a little surprised.

I was just gonna ignore him to be honest.. but then I remembered I didn't have anyone else to hangout with. Maybe I should just give him another chance. It could have been a misunderstanding.

I told him to pick me up in an hour.

11 o'clock came around and soon enough Mikes black suv pulled up In front of my house.

My parents had gone out to the store so I just texted them I'd gone out with a friend.

I grabbed my wallet and sunglasses and I walked out the front door towards his car.

"Hey" he said, right after I opened the car door and jumped into the passenger.

"Hi." I said back. "Nice car" I nodded and looked towards the rear seats.

"Oh thanks. I just go it a few weeks ago."

I nodded in response but didn't say anything.

"It's been a while" he said.

Well this is awkward.

"Yeah..." I said while rubbing my forehead. "Sorry I've just been super stressed with cheer and grades. I haven't really got a chance to just relax"

"No thats okay, I get it. I've been busy too. So.. what do you want to do?"

"Hmm" I thought about it for a second until I came up with something.

"How about the pier?" I said, smiling.

Mike perked up. "Yeah?" He asked, also smiling.

"Why not?"

"No yeah that sounds great. I haven't been there in a while."

"Alright well let's go" I said. He nodded and smiled again.

Dylan POV:

"Shit how are you so good at this?" I said, annoyed as the buzzer rung.

Valerie had just beat me at the water shooting game for the 3rd time.

"What can I say I have good accuracy" she said as the guy behind the counter handed her another prize.

"Thank you. Alright let's go ride the roller coaster" she said, handing me one of her prizes.

"Why do I get the ugly one" I said, looking down at the stuffed poodle dog.

"Cause you didn't win silly"

I rolled my eyes at her.

After we rode the roller coaster, we went on it again. And then again after that. Valerie really likes roller coasters if you couldn't tell.

After she finally got too dizzy to keep riding, we went over to the food area and found a table to eat at.

"Can you order my food" She said while plopping down on the bench. "I feel like I'm gonna puke"

"Yeah sure what do you want"

"A burger, fries, and a large coke" she said, smiling.

I gave her a weird look.

"Are you trying to puke more?"

"Hey we don't judge here. Now go get my food" she said, pushing me away. "Thanks love you bye"

I walked over to one of the food stands and got in line. Once i ordered I stepped out of line and waited near the pick up window for my order.

Suddenly I heard a scream which made me turn my head to look behind me.

I quickly saw it was just some kid throwing a tantrum and I was just about to turn my head back when someone else caught my eye.

Maddie's pov:

I was waiting by the bathrooms for Mike when I heard a voice.

"I thought you had cheer"

Shit. I turned around.

"Dylan hey- uh I have cheer in the evening"

"Oh so family thing now? Fun place for a family outing I guess." She said looking around. "Where is your family anyway?"

"Oh um they're just in the bath-"

"Hey sorry about that, long line" Mike said, walking up behind me. Fuck his terrible timing.

"Oh sorry to interrupt." He said, looking between Dylan and me.

"Oh you go to school with Maddie right?" He said, directing his attention to Dylan.

"Uh yea" she said. I could feel her eyes on me but I was looking at Mike.

"Cool cool. I'm Mike by the way" he said smiling.

"Dylan" she said, retuning the smile.

"Well I'm gonna go get a snack, you want anything?"

"No im good thanks" I said to him. He nodded and walked away.

"Well I should get back to um, my food" Dylan said.

Fuck it was so awkward and I didn't know what to say. I look like a total jerk though.

"Look Dylan I-"

"It's fine." She said, shrugging her shoulders. "And you didn't have to lie about it, I wouldn't of cared that you didn't wanna work on the project"

I nodded. "Yeah sorry I don't know why I did"

"Guess you didn't really care about what I said huh?" She said, pointing at Mike in the distance.

It seemed like she was joking around but I wanted to know what she really meant.

"What do you- what do you mean?" I said in a more serious tone. She just looked at me.

"Nothing I mean you know, you're still hanging out with him"

"I didn't know it was your business who I hung out with"

"It's not" she said, laughing awkwardly. "Sorry I didn't mean to offend you"

"And who knows if you were telling the truth. He's been nothing but nice to me" I said in a bitchier tone.

Her face completely changed and her head moved back a bit.

"Why would I lie about that?" She asked, sounding offended.

"I don't know maybe Brady's right about you moving on to the cheer team"

Her face immediately dropped which made me immediately regret everything I just said.

I broke up with Brady because he was an asshole and here I am sounding exactly like him.

"Dylan I-"

"Yeah yeah. Fuck you Maddie"

She spoke so quietly like she wasn't even angry, just embarrassed. I also think that was the first time she ever called me by my first name. She turned around, walked away, and left me standing there on the boardwalk alone.
