"What do you think I'll be interested in?",the question that she asked is still in his brain. He badly wanted to say something but controlled himself.

"Are you into art and stuff?",he asked and turned towards her as he settled down on the bed as well with a pillow in his lap.

"Nah, I am not an art person but I am more of a shaayari type person in any language for that matter of fact",she said with a wide smile on her face.

"Shaayari? Interesting!",he said.

"There's still time for you to leave for office and since we are already here in the conversation. Let's ask each other some basic things which you feel like you should know about me and vice versa. Is that fine with you?",she asked.

"Okay, not a big deal I guess. Ladies first",he said to which she chuckled.

"Alright, I'll go first. What was your dream profession?",she asked.

"It changed from time to time. The last time I checked, it was Chief justice of India",he said.

"Hmmm.. That's a big dream to be worked on. But, why did you choose to bean an undercover agent instead then Mr. Rudra?",she asked.

"Give me chance to ask too",he whined making her laugh.

"Fine kiddo, ask away",she said satirically to which he rolled his eyes.

"Same question, what was your dream profession?",he asked and slowly her smile faded, she was biting her inner cheek with a straight face.

"Madam? I asked something",he snapped his finger in front of her face.

"Why would it matter now, Sharan? It's done. All dreams are not fulfilled always",she said.

"Fulfilled or not, doesn't matter. We still have time and energy you see. I just wanted to know what did this stubborn lady in front of me wanted to make her career as? Did she just want to be a lecturer or something more?",he asked.

"There might be time, but we need the same interest as well right? Never mind! I really wanted to go in research side related to chemistry after my masters but unfortunately it didn't happen",she said with a smile which didn't really reach her eyes.

"Okay, you can still do that! What made you lose your interest?",he asked curious now to know about that.

"One question at a time, mister! My turn now",she said trying to come out of the sour mood which she got into because of that question.

"Okay answer to your previous question, see not everything can be done under lime light. There are some things that are done under the light, in the darkness be it good or bad. I wanted to serve justice to as many people as I can and being a lawyer held me back for some things which I fulfilled being an undercover agent",he said proudly.

Somehow the proudness in his voice made her feel like she was missing out something in her life. Being an assistant professor isn't really bad but what was she doing in her life now? Why is she struck in a loop?

He observed that she was lost in thoughts from the time the profession kind of questions came. Was she hiding something from him? He wanted to ask her what was she hiding but were they already that close enough to disclose such secrets.

On the other hand, Mridula came out of her thoughts as they heard a knock on the door.

"You sit, I'll see who it is",Sharan said and got down from the bed to check who it was.

He opened the door and saw Aruna with a plate full of food.

"Come in, amma! Why are you standing there only?",he said.

"Athaya, why did you come? I would have come to the dining table itself",Mridula said trying to wipe her tears which were flowing down her cheeks.

"Mridula!",Aruna said and took long strides towards her and sat beside her.

"Were you crying?",she asked looking at her face as Mridula refused to make eye contact with her.

Sharan kept the plate on the table and looked at her worried.

"No, no athaya. Just something fell in my eyes",she said and gave her a faint smile trying to make her believe that nothing was wrong.

"Are you sure? Did you say something to her, Sharan?",she asked.

"Why would I say anything to your dear daughter in law, amma? I love my life and I know you'll kill me if something like that happened",he said trying to ease the atmosphere.

Mentally he made a note to talk about it to Mridula later.

"Good that you remember that, you go and get ready. I'll make sure Mridula completes this today",saying she gets the plate from the table and starts feeding her with her hands.

Sharan nods and goes to the washroom to complete his morning chores.

Once he was done with his morning chores, he got ready to leave for office in his usual, white shirt and black pants along with his over coat. He packed his bag and put his laptop inside.

"Are you guys done?",he asked with an amused smile.

Mridula had completed having her breakfast without any tantrums. She was genuinely hungry and Aruna made her favorite breakfast which was also a healthier option considering her health.

"Yes! Don't keep an evil eye on my baby girl's food. You come, I'll serve breakfast for you",saying so Aruna left from there.

"Tablets-",as Sharan was going to say something Mridula cut him off.

"Yes, yes friend! I know tablets are in that box. I will take them without fail. Did you write this note? It's so beautiful. Your handwriting is chef's kiss. Like how did you manage to maintain such a beautiful handwriting? Did you learn calligraphy?",she asked.

"Well, this day has to be lucky or this month has to be. Am I hearing a compliment from the great Mridula's side?",he said adjusting his shirt looking into the mirror stealing glances of her.

"Anyways thank you for the compliment, I guess. I got you something actually just a minute",he said and reached out to the wardrobe.

He got a small cover from the wardrobe, Mridula looked at him and the cover curiously.

"What is it? A surprise for me?",she asked as a smile adorned her face.

"Umm not a surprise, but Krishna was the only constant I had in life as a friend. So I kinda googled regarding friends and it said that we can mark the start of friendship with something. So I got this. I hope you like it",he said and handed her the cover like a kid handing over some surprise to his/her friend on friendship day.

She opened the cover excitedly and found a Masha and The Bear keychain. She looked at it amused.

"What is this, Sharan?",she asked.

"Masha and The Bear. Don't you know that cartoon? It's just like us.. I mean it's a little girl with a bear who protects her from everyone and stuff like that. I felt like it would be a great gift. Do you not like it? I'm sorry, I don't really know how to give gifts to people",he said.

"Did I say I didn't like it? Its so cute and tiny! So pretty! You have a good choice. Wait, there is something else also",she removed earrings from the bag.

It was an oxidized jhumkas set. She was amazed looking at it.

"I thought these would be a good addition to the sarees that you own",he explained.

"Thank you so much, Sharan. You really do observe things, don't you?",she asked to which he just smiled.

"I'll make something marking the beginning of our friendship",she said.

"Alright, I'll leave now! Take care of yourself and don't go out without informing Krishna or me",he said to which she nodded.

"Aye aye captain. Can I leave this room atleast?",she asked with her hands on her hip as he gave her a side eye.

"I know sir, this is for my safety only. I was just pulling your leg and don't worry! I will take care of myself. You take care of yourself. Have a great day at work",she said.

"Bye then",he said and went outside the room with his bag on his shoulders.

He put the bag on the couch and sat on the dining table.

"How is Mridula?",his grandmother's voice came from the table and he looked at her surprised.

"I think I misheard you nanamma. What did you say?",he asked.

Teja who just came to the table was also surprised to hear his grandmother.

"Where did the sun rise from today?",he asked and earned a smack from her.

"I asked, how is Mridula doing?",she asked again.

"She is doing okay, why do you ask though?",Sharan asked.

"No, nothing. Just asking",she said and the rest of the breakfast was done by the family in silence.

"Rei, Teja! Come here and help me",Aruna called and Teja made a face.

"I'm off to office maa! Bye!",he said and went to the office

Unaware of what is waiting for them in the future..
