She watched him from a rooftop as another Hollow fell prey to his bow and arrow. The pendant dangled from the wrist, catching the sunlight every now and then that symbolized his lineage, his clan, his powers. Sighing heavily, the teen could sense another spiritual pressure flaring a mile or so away.
"This seriously needs to stop, Uryuu."
Surprised, the arrow slipped from his grip, missing the target by inches. Throwing himself to the right to dodge an attack, the second attempt didn't miss its mark. The Ishida whirled around, eyes locking on the girl. "Macy?" he asked in surprise. "What the hell? What are you doing here?"
The teen ignored the question with another, "Why do you have to prove yourself?"
"Wait, you can see these things? Them?"
"Come on, Uryuu. Can you honestly not see it?"
His brows furrowed in confusion, not noticing anything. "Macy, go back to school. It's not safe here."
"It's not safe anywhere, thanks to you. This petty rivalry needs to stop. It's not healthy."
"Look, I don't have time to deal with this right now."
"No, you're in denial and don't want to see the truth."
A Hollow towered over the roof Macy stood on, Uyruu's eyes widening. "Watch out!" he shouted.
Spiritual pressure spiked in the air; the creature being ripped to shreds. The Quincy's eyes widened. "I'm sorry," Macy whispered.
They were surrounded by Hollows, all closing in on their prey. Uryuu pulled back his arm, arrow at the ready. Macy moved quickly, throwing her body into a spin as something sliced through the air was accuracy. It cut off every mask, the enemy disappearing. His head whipped around, finding a sword in her grasp.
"Y-You're a..." She nodded. "But the uniform-?"
"Later. But honestly, Uryuu, this needs to stop."
She jumped off the roof and rushed into the streets.

Macy sat in her living room, wrapping the lower half of an arm in a bandage to cover a long cut. There was a knock at the door, the teen getting up from the floor. Uryuu stood outside, completely exhausted from the day's events. "Come in," she said, going to clean up the supplies left out.
"When?" he asked.
"My whole life," she said. "Both of my parents are Soul Reapers from the Society, who defected years ago after a mission that impaired them from ever being in the field again. So when my powers developed I took their place to ward off any threats so we were safe."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
The teen cocked a brow. "Seriously? The Quincy who despises Soul Reapers and wouldn't hesitate to fight against them or show them their place? I'm good."
He winced at the comment, running a hand through his hair. "Okay, I'm sorry about that, but why didn't you ever stop me from speaking against them?"
"When we were kids, you weren't like this. But after what happened to your grandfather... I knew your views would never be the same. There was a time when I thought I would tell you what I really was, and at times hinted towards it. But I decided against it in the end." Her shoulders shrugged. "Besides, if you thought I had sympathy for the race you hated you would probably think badly of me."
Uyruu looked away, feeling guilty. For all the times he badmouthed Soul Reapers. How he said he would get revenge. How he hated them with a passion. This whole time he was insulting and plotting against his friend.
"So... do you hate me?"
The Quincy sighed. "I could never hate you, Macy."
"I doubt you are okay with this though."
"It's going to take some getting used to. But where was your uniform?"
"I'm not an official Reaper. After my parents left the Society the Squads didn't know they had a daughter so I'm not enrolled, which means no uniform."
His eyes glanced down, seeing the wrapped wound before looking her in the eye. "I'm sorry. For-"
"Stop. It's not your fault. Besides, I never told you so how could you have known?"
"I could've looked harder for your pressure."
"It wouldn't have done you any good. You know that candy shop down the road? The owner is a Soul Reaper too, and gave me a limiter. Makes it near impossible to detect me unless I release it of my own free will. I chose not to say anything and just went with it."
The sky was growing darker outside as storm clouds blocked out the setting sun. "You know, this little bet you made with Kurosaki will cause problems and gain attention."
"Does this mean you're in danger of being exposed?"
"Possibly. There could be more Reapers snooping around. There is a chance they could be checking in on my parents."
"Couldn't you use that shopkeeper's help and hide away?"
"Maybe. But why are you so worried. I'm a Soul Reaper."
Uryuu's eyes narrowed. "Knock it off, Macy. You're still my friend. And I don't want you to get in trouble."
She sighed. "I'm going to be honest with you, Uryuu, you may wake up one day and I won't be here anymore."
His eyes widened, not even thinking about this possibility. "No. I won't allow it. I won't let them take you away!"
"Neither of us have a say in this if it does happen."
His crossed the room, gripping her arms tightly and pulling the teen closer. "No! You belong in Karakura Town! Not in their world!"
Macy was shocked by the outburst, trying to pull away to no avail. "Uyruu, let me go-"
"No! I won't! You're my friend! The only person I can come to because my father wants nothing to do with me! You're not going anywhere!"
"Calm down! I'm right here, right now, but I'm warning you for the future! There is a fifty-fifty chance they could come."
His grip did not loosen, only pulling the teen closer and enveloping her in a hug. "I won't allow it. They will have to get through me first."
"Uyruu..."
Pressing his forehead against her own, he continued to whisper. "Please don't leave. Don't."
"I'll try not to," she answered with honesty. His lips ghosted over hers, noticing she wasn't going to pull away and kissed her full on.
"Let me protect you."
Macy gave a small nod, the Quincy giving her a smile.
