Bridget walked around aimlessly through the streets of Karakura Town, grocery bag in hand. Her white sundress billowed at the bottom as she traveled, brown hair with red tips moving in the lightly breeze. She came to her apartment, taking off the sandals and putting away the items that had been bought. The day was slowly coming to an end and Bridget found herself stripping from her clothing and jumping in the shower.

"Movie night," she spoke out loud to herself, pulling on a baggy T-shirt, and basketball shorts. Popcorn popped in the microwave as she set up the television and put in a movie she rented out the day before.

Everything was perfect as Bridget curled up on the couch, a blanket wrapped around her four-foot ten-inch frame, a bowl of popcorn in her lap, water off to the side, and the movie playing. She could hear it starting to rain outside, but continued to watch the picture without a care in the world. The seventeen-year-old girl didn't even bother closing the open window, loving the sound and smell that came from the weather.

That is, until something came crashing through the frame. Bridget jumped in fright, tumbling over the arm of the couch on the other side, not able to see what had entered. It was quiet, and Bridget wondered if it had been an animal.

"Hello?" she asked. There was no answer. Slowly, she poked her head around the corner of the couch to see a lump, sprawled out across the floor. "Hello?" she called again. Still nothing.

Bridget reached up with a shaky hand to turn on the lamp. Light flooded the room and the teen gasped, seeing a person lying on the floor. She scrambled to her feet and over to the person's side. "Are you alright?" Bridget exclaimed. The stranger did not answer and the teen turned them over to discover it was a young man. She reeled at the sight of blood all over his chest. "Of course you're not all right, you're bleeding everywhere!" she exclaimed, trying to calm herself. "Uh... phone..." Bridget spoke, looking around for the object. Once finding it on the couch she snatched it up, fingers shaking. "You need to go to the hospital-"

A pale hand shot out, stopping Bridget from typing in the number. "No hospital," he said in a raspy voice.

"No hospital?" Bridget questioned. "Are you insane?" she then yelled. "You're bleeding all over my floor! I'm calling-!" The hand that grasped hers broke the phone with the flick of his wrist, leaving it to crumble to the ground. "What's your problem?" she half-yelled, trying not to wake the neighbors. "Do you want to die?"

"No... hospital..." he breathed out again before the hand dropped to the floor.

Bridget huffed, trying to stay calm and figure out what to do. The guy needed a doctor, she knew that, but he broke her phone, and had nearly begged to not be seen to. Grumbling, the girl ran and grabbed some towels, bandages, and water. His shirt was beyond hope so she easily ripped it off his body before slipping it away. Long, deep cuts ran across his chest from what looked like a blade. Bridget set to work, cleaning away the blood and trying to stop the flow.

"You're damn well lucky I intern as a doctor's assistant," Bridget grumbled, mainly out loud to herself. She was frustrated and frightened by the scene, but continued her duties. "If you die here on my living room floor, I swear to God that if you decide to haunt me for this, I will bring you back to the land of the living and kill you myself! You hear me?"

She sighed, getting no answer, and continued her work.

Once the wounds were wrapped and tended to, Bridget grabbed the young man by the arm, throwing it across her shoulders. She lifted, half dragging him to a bed she had set up, the stranger too tall for her small frame to be carried properly. The girl then ran to the closet, gathering as many chemicals as possible before scrubbing the wood floor that was stained red. "I swear if this doesn't come out, you're paying for it," she growled scrubbing furiously.

Finally, most of the blood was all gone, the rest turning brown and blending into the wood. She groaned before dumping the chemicals and washing both arms clean of red liquid and strong fumes.

Bridget sighed, leaning against the counter and looking over at the cracked open door. Finally, she walked forward into the dark room, the movie completely forgotten and stared at the young man lying on the pull-out bed under her own. His chest rose and fell, as soft breathing escaped his lips. If it wasn't for the fact that he was lying half dead in her room, Bridget might have even looked at him more closely, seeing the hole in his throat, the tattoo on his chest, and his unbelievably gorgeous body.

The teen walked forward, sitting herself down lightly on his mattress. She checked over the bandages one last time before climbing into her own bed and falling asleep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Bridget woke up the next morning, she stared up at the ceiling for a good five minutes, rubbing the sleep from her eyes and hoping the previous night had all been her imagination. One look over the side at the still sleeping figure made her groan and smash a pillow into her face. "It wasn't a dream," she whined.

After wasting another ten minutes, Bridget threw off the covers before climbing off her bed and kneeling next to the stranger. His wounds had stopped bleeding completely, the gashes closing up surprisingly quickly. "How is that even possible?" she muttered to herself, removing the old bandages and replacing them with new ones.

Then Bridget got a good look at him as she sat Indian style on the bed. Compared to the night before when he had been on his deathbed and it had been very dark, she was able to sit back and take him all in. His skin was alabaster white, hair jet-black, upper lip black, and two green, almost tattoo-like lines running down his cheeks. The stranger's figure was muscular and toned, as well as tall. Under the bandages was a black tattoo in the shape of the number '4'. Her eyes widened at the sight of the hole at the base of his neck.

"What the...?" Bridget trailed off, leaning in closer to get a better look. The teen wondered how he could've survived such a wound, and still be breathing, but he was miraculously. Her eyes then traveled up to the green lines on his cheeks where she stared in fascination. Unable to restrain herself, Bridget reached up slowly and carefully before her fingertips lightly stroked the lines.

A white hand shot forward, gripping Bridget's hand and pulling it away roughly. Her eyes widened as she found herself looking into bright, emerald green one. The look was emotionless, but Bridget couldn't help but find a hint of curiousness and wonder in them.

"What are you doing?" the young man asked in a cold, monotone voice.

Bridget swallowed, trying to moisten her suddenly dry throat. "You were hurt," she answered softly, not looking away.

"I don't need help from trash like you."

Her eye twitched in annoyance before pulling her hand away, crossing both arms over her chest, and pouting. "You know, if you weren't injured, I would hit you upside the head or stuff a pillow in your face."

The young man sat up, startling her greatly that such a task was possible from his injuries. She actually managed to accidentally slip off the side of the bed and fall to the floor. "What are you doing?" he asked.

"Shut up!" she exclaimed, scrambling up to a sitting position. "You startled me is all!"

"You trash never cease to amaze me with your stupidity." He then began to stand and Bridget freaked out, afraid he would open his wounds. So, she did the only thing she could think of: pin him down.

"What are you doing?" he asked again, mild amusement in his voice. Bridget's hands were gripping his shoulders, forcing them back into the mattress, knees on either side of his waist as she leaned over him.

"What am I doing? What are you doing?" she asked back. "You're hurt! You're in no way, shape, or form ready to be up and moving around!"

"Unlike trash like you, I heal faster."

"I don't care! Your wounds are still present, and as the person here with the most experience in the medical field, I say you're to stay here!"

"You're a doctor?"

"Well... not exactly... I'm an intern-" Bridget saw he did not understand. "A... person who helps a doctor..."

"So your diagnosis is irrelevant because you are not one."

"Not yet! But in a few years, I will be-! That's not the point!"

"Then what is?"

Bridget was growing irritated, leaned her face in closer, glaring. "The point is that your wounds are still likely to open if you move around too much and I'm not about to let you bleed out all over my floors again! I just cleaned them!"

"You were the one from last night then?"

"No duh!" Bridget sighed, leaning back. "What's your name?"

"I have no use for telling you my name, trash."

Bridget shook it off, continuing, "My name is Bridget Koi. Not trash." She climbed off of him, sighing and running a hand through her hair in frustration. "Listen, just at least let me know what your name is. You do that and I'll let you do whatever you want here, okay? You can... get up and walk around if you want, just... please don't leave until I know you're a hundred percent. You were beaten up pretty badly. I... I don't want to worry if you go out there not a hundred percent is all."

The young man sat up, looking at Bridget. She couldn't stop the heat that rushed to her cheeks under his gaze. "W-What?" she stammered.

"Nothing... I'm... just trying to figure you out..."

"Huh?"

"Worry... Why would you worry about someone like me?"

Bridget looked at him quizzically before saying, "I worry about anyone that gets hurt. I especially worry when someone comes flying through my window late at night bleeding all over my apartment."

They stayed silent for a good minute, staring at each other before he closed his eyes. "Very well then, I'll stay..."

Bridget's face lit up in a smile. "The shower is down the hall. I have some clothing you can wear so I'll leave it on the sink while you're washing. Use anything you want and make yourself at home." She stood up, brushing herself off. "I'll make breakfast."

As Bridget rummaged through the packed boxes in one of her many closets, she heard the shower turn on. Finally finding what she needed, the teen walked to the bathroom, knocking lightly. "I have your clothing," she called in. "I'll leave it on the sink."

She opened the door slowly, reaching out and placing the clothing on the countertop before heading to the kitchen once again. Breakfast was made quickly and when Bridget turned around with two plates in her hand she jumped, surprised to find the stranger in her doorway, watching her. "Jeez! How long have you been standing there?"

"A while..." He wore a black T-shirt and grey sweatpants, his hair still damp with drops of water dripping from the ends.

Bridget's cheeks flushed. "Well, breakfast is ready."

They ate in silence, Bridget not knowing what to say, and the stranger, not wanting to say anything. She wanted to ask how he got hurt, but didn't want to pry at the same time. So instead, towards the end of the meal, Bridget asked, "How are your wounds?"

"Fine," he answered, not looking up.

"Would you mind if I looked at them?"

"Do as you please."

She stood from her chair, cleaning both hands before standing in front of the stranger. He had turned in his seat to face Bridget, giving her an empty stare. The teen's hands gripped the front of his shirt, lifting it to see the angry red colors around the still noticeable gashes. The intern looked in wonder as her fingers roamed the marks that should've still been fatal. However, they were healing quicker than a normal human being, almost halfway closed.

Bridget glanced up at the stranger, curiously. "How...?" she asked, unable to continue. He only stared back as Bridget searched for words to describe what she was feeling. "Impossible..." she finally whispered, not knowing how else to describe it.

"I'm not like you," he finally answered. "To you this is impossible, but to me it is not."

Bridget shook her head, letting his shirt fall back into place. "You speak as if we're both not human."

"I'm not."

Bridget knew he was telling the truth, but did not know what to think. If he wasn't human, then what was he?

"You're welcome to stay as long as you'd like," she said, changing the subject. "Just please don't leave until your gashes have closed up completely."

Bridget got up, taking both of their empty plates to the sink to wash them. "Ulquiorra..." Bridget froze mid scrub, but did not turn around. "My name is Ulquiorra..."

A light smile came to Bridget's lips as she continued her cleaning, oblivious to the way Ulquiorra's lips twitched at the corners.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was six days ago. Ulquiorra had fully healed on the third day, still to Bridget's amazement, but for some reason he decided to stay. Bridget had no problem with it really. It was nice having company, and at the end of the school day, had something to look forward to for once. Even though Ulquiorra remained quiet most of the time it was a comfortable silence, one that Bridget enjoyed. She had enough clothes to provide, that wasn't a problem. She had a whole closet with unused clothing she had not bothered to throw away.

"Why do you live alone?" Ulquiorra asked on the seventh day. It was the weekend again and Bridget had been cleaning the apartment. The question startled Bridget and made her pause in her cleaning, but she quickly started up again, not wanting it to look like it was a topic she didn't particularly like to address.

"I chose to. I'm allowed to make my own decisions, right? And besides, I like being independent."

Ulquiorra stared at Bridget's back as she continued to wipe down the windows. "You're lying," he finally stated.

Bridget sighed, dropping her arm and stared out the window. "Nothing gets by you, huh, Ulquiorra?" He didn't answer. "A year and a half ago... we were all walking home from a movie. I never knew my dad, so it was only my mom, older brother, and I. Everything was fine one minute, but the next... they were gone..." she finished in a whisper.

The sun was setting outside, giving off a bright orange and yellow glow. "It happened so fast I don't remember how it occurred really. But one minute they were standing beside me and the next they were lying on the ground dead, and I was sitting beside them in shock with blood all over me." She gripped the cloth in her hand tightly. "It was a monster with a white mask that attacked us and took my family from me. I've been on my own since..."

It was quiet in the room for a good five minutes before Bridget sighed and walked towards the kitchen. There, she wrung out the towel in the sink, washing her hands as well. "It's alright though."

"What happened to the monster?" Ulquiorra asked.

"I don't know... it ran off before it could finish me off as well. Why it didn't kill me, I don't know..."

The water turned off and Bridget shook her head, trying to stay positive about the whole situation. She heard the window open in the living room and walked back through the doorway to see Ulquiorra halfway outside. "Are you leaving?" she whispered.

The young man turned back to her, his skin looking even paler against the rays of the setting sun, black hair glistening. A hand reached out to Bridget and she stared at it in wonder before locking her blue eyes with Ulquiorra's green ones. "Do you trust me?" Bridget didn't answer, looking down at his palm again. "Do you trust me?"

Their eyes locked once more, a smile coming to Bridget's face. She reached forward, placing her hand in Ulquiorra's. His grip tightened before pulling her forward and out the window with him. Bridget was in too much shock to say or do anything and she found herself on the roof of a building. Ulquiorra situated Bridget so she was on his back, his arms hooked under her legs, her own arms around his neck. "Hold on," he ordered before rushing off again.

Bridget tightened her grip around his neck as the wind rushed past her face as they jumped from building to building. The sight was breath taking, and the teen couldn't figure out how it was happening. She looked at the side of Ulquiorra's face with wide eyes, his face unemotional that this was even happening.

He finally stopped on a high office building and they looked down and watched as the lights of Karakura Town came to life, the sun disappearing in the distance. The view was amazing. Bridget grinned in excitement before hugging Ulquiorra tightly, resting the side of her face against his own.

"Thank you, Ulquiorra," she whispered. "It's beautiful."

He didn't answer, only look over at Bridget from the corner of his eyes at her happy expression. A part of him was relieved to see that she was delighted and he closed his eyes in satisfaction.

However, the moment was short lived as Ulquiorra's eyes snapped open, gripping Bridget's legs tightly before moving out of the way. Bridget's head reeled from the sudden movement, only to find them face-to-face with two people in black clothing and swords.

"What the hell-?" one asked in shock.

"How are you still alive?" questioned the other. Ulquiorra didn't answer, ready to move.

"Renji, be careful. He has a human," the female whispered to her friend.

"I know..." Bridget's grip around Ulquiorra's neck tightened, but not enough to choke him. "Look, Espada, just put the human down and we'll settle this here and now." He didn't move. "I'm not going to ask you again, move! Or else I'll use force!"

"I'm not letting go," Ulquiorra reassured Bridget. "Hold on..."

Renji attacked and the young man quickly sidestepped him. "Renji, stop!"

"Stay out of this, Rukia!"

"He has a human! We can't harm her!"

He growled, glaring at Ulquiorra. "Step away from the human, Espada and let's take this fight somewhere else!"

Everyone stood still, waiting for someone to move. Then Bridget felt Ulquiorra's grip loosening. "No," she spoke in his ear, not wanting to move away.

"Let go," he ordered.

"But-"

"I'll be fine..."

Bridget's grip began to slowly loosen and she stood on her own two feet before Ulquiorra. "Just be careful," she whispered. The Espada stepped away.

"Renji..." Rukia spoke up as the two men faced each other. "I don't think he's an Espada..."

"Are you crazy? Rukia, this is the guy Ichigo fought against!"

"Then where
