Name: Akina [Aki] Takahashi

Race: Shinigami

Age: Around 20

Appearance: Long, blood red hair pulled into a messy ponytail and forest green eyes. Has a slender build that is accented by her uniform; a skirt and a top resembling Soi Fong's. She wears white fingerless gloves, a black choker, piercings in her ears [both feathers, one black and one white], and white boots. Aki complains that the sandals are uncomfortable.

Personality: Can appear to be very calm, relaxed, and doesn't care about anyone. However, she can be well mannered and happy, while very random and has a temper problem. Aki is very unpredictable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aki couldn't stop her hands from trembling. Cursing to herself the Third Seat gripped her dueling zanpakuto as blood rolled down the steel edges. Shadows loomed over the young woman as the hungry eyes of Hollows stared down at the lonely Soul Reaper. There had been more. But all of them had been slaughtered. The enemy had been larger than normal, smarter. Some were on the borderline of being Adjuchas. The group had been misinformed and unprepared. If Aki had known who their opponents would've been the girl would have recruited Renji, Kira, and Momo, all Lieutenants.

"Are you afraid, little girl?" a Hollow taunted.

The Soul Reaper's eyes narrowed, gritting her teeth in anger. "Shut it!" she snapped, slicing the fan through the air. Immediately, the enemy was cut in half by the sharp wind attack.

The others laughed, not caring that one of their allies had been killed. No, it was all very amusing. "Come on, I'm hungry," one grinned.

"Yeah, let's have our way with her," another agreed.

For the first time in a long while Aki though back to that night. The last, miserable, traumatizing night of being a human. Suddenly, the Hollows' taunting turned into their voices, the monstrous gang who only cared about money and collecting debts. Aki's hands reached up, covering her ears. But she could still hear them, no matter how much the palms pressed against the sides of her head, nails digging into the skin.

Fear. The color drained from the Soul Reaper's face, stomach heaving, heart thumping. They closed in. A blood-curling scream ripped through Aki's throat, spiritual pressure flaring and shredding the first line into pieces. But the attack didn't stop and she waited to be ripped into and tortured.

Aki couldn't watch.

Something sliced through the air cutting through the enemy and spilling blood everywhere. The screams were horrific, the Soul Reaper's body shaking, too afraid to move.

"You Soul Reaper's are always getting into trouble," a voice spoke up. Aki raised her head, spotting the broad back of a man facing the enemy. There was a sword in his hand, poised for the kill.

The young woman watched in awe at his skills in combat and the once infested field was empty of any threats. "Who are you?" Aki stammered, finally gaining his attention. The man walked forward, white hair catching in the moonlight. As more of his features became defined the closer he got, the Soul Reaper was stunned. "You..." she breathed.

Though his appearance had changed since that night so many years ago Aki would recognize him anywhere. The person who had saved her life when thugs hunted her down due to her own father's debts. The person who found her at the cemetery watching her own funeral when the gang caught up. The person who told her of and sent her to the Society to become a Soul Reaper. She was only eighteen at the time.

The man cocked a brow in confusion. "Do I know you?"

Then again, they never introduced themselves properly on a name basis. "My name is Aki Takahashi. You saved me from some thugs' years ago and then sent me to the Society when they did kill me. I made a promise that we never met in the World of the Living to you."

Realization flashed through his eyes, which widened before putting away his weapon. "Damn," he chuckled slightly. "So you went ahead and became a Soul Reaper." Aki nodded. "What seat?"

"Third in the Eighth Squad."

"And the others who came with you?"

"Below Sixth."

"That was not enough power to take down these guys."

"You sure? I thought we were winning," the young woman rolled her eyes.

He smirked. "Glad to see you haven't lost your sarcastic side."

"Hard not to when you have friends like Renji."

"Who?"

"No one, a friend of mine from the Academy. Now are you going to tell me your name?"

"Kensei Muguruma," he introduced himself, holding out a hand.

Aki was hesitant before reaching forward. Ever since the incident with the gang the young woman didn't care for physical contact with the opposite sex. But he was different from them. He saved her. The man pulled the young woman to her feet, causing Aki to stumble since both legs were still shaky.

"I'm glad I managed to see you again," the Soul Reaper smiled. "I wanted to say thank you. And for saving me just now."

"You just like getting yourself in trouble," Kensei snorted. The girl giggled at the comment, knowing it was true. The man then examined her. Though over a hundred years had passed Aki still looked so young. And that thought made him feel guilty. "I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"For not sticking around after they tried attacking you the first time. Being stupid enough not to ask why you were a target and thinking they wouldn't come back. You died because of that. I should be the one saying sorry."

"No, because for the first time in two years when I was in hiding someone cared enough to step in and try to stop them. I don't care anymore because I no longer have to see, deal, or worry about them."

He nodded in understanding, but still partly blamed himself. "Where are your robes?" Aki asked suddenly.

"It's a long story," Kensei answered, scratching the back of his head. "A little too long and you need to head back to make a report."

"Didn't you come from the Society as well?"

"No... Not anymore."

She thought about this. The rest of the group was gone, not a trace of them on the field nor the Hollows. By now the Twelfth Division should've realized this and in all honestly Aki didn't want to go back for a while to be interrogated on what had happened. She was still trying to process the events herself, mentally shivering at the memory.

"I've got time..." Kensei cocked a brow. "I want to know more about you. Besides, if I do go back, what's to say you disappear on me again without a trace."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "You're something else, kid."

Moving forward the man placed a hand on the small of the Soul Reaper's back leading the way. And once again Aki didn't shy away from the touch. No, she welcomed it, smiling up at Kensei.
