Throughout the day everything seemed fine... Squidward took orders and Spongebob made the patties, the usual day for the both of them at work, luckily for Squidward he hadn't had much interaction with the sponge since the morning, he was starting to feel confident that maybe that dream wasn't to do with his inner feelings for the sponge or anything as such... he had been able to avoid Spongebob all day and he was feeling great! Why would he like Spongebob? See! He totally doesn't! Well at least that is what he had himself thinking.
It was close to closing time for the Krusty Krab, Spongebob was finishing off by cleaning the grill, he could hear the pod packing up his station and preparing to leave for the night- The sponge really wanted to walk home with Squidward today so he quickly scrubbed the grill as fast as he could before tossing the cloth into the wash basket. He slams the door open and zooms up behind Squidward who had just reached the door. Squidward let out a loud sigh as he heard the all familiar squeaky noise of the sponges shoes. He rubbed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, he shook his head and simply pushed the door open- with no hesitation he slammed it in Spongebob's face causing the sponge to squish up against the glass.
"Squidward wait!" The sponge called out as he swung open the door, he quickly sped up so he matched Squidward's walking speed. He looked up at his co-worker with a goofy grin. Squidward tried avoiding eye contact with the idiot. They walked along the path they took to get to their house, Spongebob hummed as he walked and kept his eyes up on the blue octopus. It was quite silent between the two on their little walk home. Spongebob may be loud a lot of the time but the quiet is nice too! Especially when he is close to his best buddy Squidward! The sun was starting to set in Bikini Bottom, the sky was a mixture of orange and purple... it shimmered down giving the sponge a small glow in its vibrant yellow colour. Squidward had done a pretty good job avoiding eye contact with the sponge until the bright sun burned his eyes, he glanced down at Spongebob then quickly looked away as he felt his own cheeks heat up bright. Spongebob looked so adorable... he had a sweet content smile on his lips, his big blue eyes were shimmering gorgeously... the orange blaze of the sun mixed perfectly with his skin and made his adorable little freckles pop! Squidward couldn't bear to stare at the sponge any longer- he was starting to feel sick in his stomach from all these weird feelings... he was sure he'd gotten over them! Oh boy was he wrong!
They were approaching their houses, thank Neptune for that! Squidward picked up his pace and raced to his house. He pushes his hands in his pockets only to discover he didn't have his keys- a cold sweat dripped down his forehead as he searched himself for his keys, he was freaking out! He couldn't have forgotten them at work could he? Even if he did, to go all the way back now? Krabs would have locked up for the night! Squidward groaned and slammed his head against his door in defeat as Spongebob watched from the front of his porch.
"Squidward? What's wrong!"
The sponge called to Squidward, but he didn't answer and just continued to slam his head against his front door, he had no expression on his face, he looked bland, he looked done with everything. Spongebob nervously walked over to Squidward's porch and looked up at him with anxious eyes.
"Is everything alright?" Spongebob asked shyly.
Squidward groaned, head still against the door.
"No Spongebob, everything is NOT alright! I left my keys at work."
Spongebob gasped, he frowned at the pod and placed a hand against Squidward's back in a soothing way, although Squidward shoved Spongebob away and growled.
"Don't. Touch. Me." he hissed.
Spongebob let out a nervous squeak and quickly nodded as he stepped back.
"W-well- if you can't ... get inside" He looked over at his home then back at Squidward.
"You could always stay over at mine for the night? I mean... you do have your work clothes!" The sponge grinned shyly.
Squidward felt like he was going to throw up. He turned his face to face the small yellow sponge with a drained and tired glance, he looked weak. What other choice did he have? He would rather not sleep out in the cold like a homeless person!
"Ffffine, fine! Just- for tonight, and I will never stay at your house again, and- we shall never speak of this. Oh! And it is not a sleepover Sponge." he snapped at the little sponge.
Spongebob nodded quickly, he had a sweet adorable smile on his lips, he looked really excited! He was bouncing excitedly in his spot, without any hesitation he snatched Squidward's hand and tugged him along to his house, Squidward simply groaned... he wanted to avoid this idiot not spend the night with him!
Spongebob unlocked his pineapple home and held the door open for the pod to enter first, which he sorta just pushed past Spongebob and stormed into his living room. Spongebob didn't care! He was way too excited for this 'sleepover but not sleepover!' He closes the door behind him and places his work hat on the rack along with his house keys. Gary slithered up to Squidward and started to growl and hiss at him.
"SPONGEBOB! Get your slimy, disgusting vermin away from me!" Squidward snapped harshly.
Spongebob squeaked and quickly ran over to Gary, picking him up and scolding him for being so rude to their guest, Squidward just rolled his eyes and took a seat on Spongebob's couch, he leaned back and tried to get comfortable, he was really tired. The sponge scooted up close beside him and flickered his eyelashes playfully at the other. Squidward let out a low grumble and shoved the Sponge to the other side of the couch.
"Do you mind?" Squid spat.
"Not at all Squiddy!" Spongebob giggled.
Squidward huffed. "Idiot."
Spongebob sat there awkwardly and swayed his legs back and forth as he looked around the room, he wasn't sure what Squidward wanted to do on their 'sleepover but not sleepover!' he tapped his knee with his hand, hummed and nodded his head side to side, he was like a bored kid in a dentist waiting room.
"Can you shut it?!" Squidward spat at the sponge.
Spongebob squealed and then quickly went silent... he looked over at the octopus who had his eyes closed, and his hands resting on his chest, he was trying to relax. This bored the Sponge, he stood up and clapped his hands together.
"Want a drink?" He asked.
Squidward cracked an eye open at the sponge and shrugged before giving a small nod.
"Tea, no milk."
Spongebob nods "Don't worry Squiddy~ I know exactly what tea you have Squiddy~ I know a lot about you~!" The spong giggles.
"Of course you do." He rolled his eyes.
Spongebob stood in between the doorway to the kitchen for a moment just so he could admire Squidward... he sighed helplessly before entering the kitchen to get started on making the tea. The sponge swayed side by side as he hummed to himself, he imagined what it'd be like to dance with Squidward at the luau! His face was bright orange, his eyes shimmering with love! He was so excited to have this opportunity to be with Squidward! He can imagine the two of them close together as they sway under the beautiful stars, he'd stare helplessly into Squidward's eyes and he would stare back... Spongebob picked up a broom and started to dance with it pretending it was Squidward. He danced around his kitchen, spinning and twirling as he hummed happily. The sponge had forgotten about the tea already.
Squidward grumbles and sits up, he is growing impatient.
"What is taking that nitwit so long to make tea?!"
Squidward slipped off the couch and walked over to the kitchen, he stopped in the frame and an appalled look came to his face.
"Spongebob! What are you doing?!" Squidward questioned.
Spongebob jumped and threw the broom aside he let out a small 'eep!' before quickly turning around to see Squidward's unamused face. The poor sponge had become flustered.
"N-N-NOTHING! I'm– making... tea! Ha ha..." He quickly turned back around and turned on the kettle.
"Riiiight... just hurry up!" Squidward turned around and headed back to the couch.
Spongebob sighed and wiped the sweat off his brow, he quickly grabbed two tea cups, one for him and one for Squidward.
Squidward relaxed back onto Spongebob's couch, he grabbed the remote that rested on the armchair and switched on the TV, he flickered through the channels to his favourite where housefancy had just begun! He perked up and scooted closer to the end of the couch as he listened.
"Squidward~ your tea is ready~" Spongebob cooed happily.
"Shut it Spongebob! Housefancy is on!" Squidward spat.
Spongebob squeaked and went silent. He quickly went over to the side table beside the couch and moved the shell phone by giving it a gentle kick to the side, he then placed their tea down. Spongebob bounced onto the spot beside Squidward on the couch, the pod didn't care as he was invested in his favourite show. Spongebob stayed silent, he knows if he speaks during this show Squidward would be very mad.
Squidward leaned his arm over to the side table whilst keeping his eyes glued on the screen, he snatches the tea cup and pulls it to his lips sipping loudly. Spongebob found this show to be kinda boring... but he would do anything to make Squidward happy, so he shut up and sat silently allowing his crush to watch the show he loves. As Squidward was intrigued, eyes glued to the screen, Spongebob was occupied somewhere else. Spongebob was gazing at Squidward, he had a hand against his chin as he watched the pod reacting to his show. Spongebob studied the features of the other, looking at his adorable teal skin... his bright smile and expressions towards his favourite show... He was stuck in a trance toward the other, he could feel his heart beating out of his chest, his cheeks flushed with the brightest colour of orange... he couldn't take his eyes off of Squidward.
The show was about almost finished, Spongebob had simply been staring at the other the entire time, admiring everything about him. The cephalopod didn't notice through the whole show, it wasn't until the credits rolled up that he turned to his left to see the brightly flustered sponge. Squidward's own face heated dark blue, he grumbled and quickly looked away before he felt any of those weird feelings.
"What are you looking at Spongebob..." Squidward scoffed and stood up.
"You didn't even drink your tea..." He sighs and just takes the cup and brings it to the kitchen with his own. He places the cups in the sink and turns back around to see Spongebob standing there with a big grin on his face.
"Sorry Squidward! I forgot all about it!" He laughed a little then shyly looked down to the ground.
Squidward let out an awkward 'eh' before scooting around the Sponge back to the lounge. Spongebob simply follows behind him, his little shoes squeaking as he does so.
Squidward stared up at the clock, it was 7.30pm.
"Sooo... Squiddy..."
Spongebob purred.
"What." Squidward rubbed his eyes and yawned as he looked down at the electric little sponge.
"Uhm... so, tomorrow night!" Spongebob was finally able to bring it up.
"Huh...? Oh, right." Squidward almost forgot about the luau.
"It's after work right?" Squidward grumbled tiredly as he slumped back onto the couch. Spongebob hoped beside him.
"Mhm! Tomorrow at 8! Sooo... this time tomorrow! Are you excited?!" Spongebob giggled.
Squidward rolled his eyes and huffed. "No. Not really." he answered bluntly to the overactive sponge. "It's just a stupid dance." Squidward shrugged.
Spongebob let out a small gasp.
"It's not just a dance Squid! It's a luau!" The sponge giggled.
Squidward groaned and rubbed his eyes.
"Oh right, how could I forget..." he spoke sarcastically.
Spongebob smiled wide up at Squidward, he was electric, bouncing in his spot, beaming for tomorrow! He was so wholesome, hard for Squidward to resist... Squidward's cheeks dusted with dark blue, he quickly looked away from Spongebob and covered a small grin with his tentacle. With his other tentacle he reaches it on top of Spongebob's head giving him a gentle pet in a way to calm him down. Spongebob looked up at Squidward with big loving eyes- Squidward tried his very best to resist looking at the sponge... he caught a glimpse in the corner of his eye and his blush worsened by the second.
Why did he have to feel this way toward the idiot sponge?! It could have been anyone else but of course these feelings appear for the most annoying person he knows! Squidward stood up and took a deep breath, he needed a moment to regain his breath, he felt like he was struggling to breathe beside the adorable sponge.
"Ahem, it's getting late." Squidward states.
Spongebob frowned and stood up beside the pod.
"Late? It's only 7:45?" Spongebob crossed his arms.
Squidward adjusted his collar and gulped, he just wanted to get away from the sponge to avoid these weird feelings he was having!
"What if we play a game!" Spongebob smiled wide.
"A... game?" Squidward raised a brow.
"A game! Like... never have I ever!" Spongebob giggled.
"Don't you need beverages for that game Spongebob?" Squidward stared down at the small sponge, he shrugged a little.
"Uhh you do?" Spongebob rubbed his chin confused.
"Oh my neptune! You need alcohol for that game barnacle head! I thought everyone knew that!" Squidward snarked and rolled his eyes.
Spongebob put his hands to his lips and laughed.
"Oooh! A drinking game! I've gotcha!" Spongebob bounced off to the kitchen unannounced and came back with two bottles of wine.
"Patrick got this for me last year! I don't drink so, I just stored it away! But if you really want to play the game I guess that's alright!" Spongebob placed the bottles down on the floor beside the couch.
Squidward blinked, he looked down at the bottles then a smirk came to his lips.
"Are you sure you can handle it? I mean... you've never drank~" Squidward teased.
Spongebob rolled his eyes and scoffed.
"Of course I can handle it! I'm no wuss!"
"I beg to differ..." Squidward snickered softly to himself.
"No really! I can! I really can!" He stomped his foot and grunted, he couldn't believe Squidward didn't believe him!
Squidward smirked, this was going to be fun... he has never seen Spongebob tipsy or drunk, this is going to be interesting... luckily it was only two bottles, they'll have a bottle each, they won't get too drunk, well Squidward won't. As for Spongebob? He isn't sure how much the sponge will be able to handle since this was his first time.
"Shall we get started?"
Squidward smirks.
