"Oh my hija, you look gorgeous," My mother boasted. I stood in the full length mirror standing in my wedding gown. I never pictured myself being married off at fourteen years old.

"I don't feel gorgeous."

"Hija, this is everything we've ever wanted. Now chin up and smile."

"I never wanted this. You did," I snapped.

"Mariana, it's time," My father said poking his head in the doorway.

I picked up my dress and walked out the door. I waited behind the doors with my father.

"Dad, I love you, and I'll miss you."

He hugged me, "I love you too, but I'm not going anywhere." Little does he know, I'm going.

The music began and I walked down the aisle with my dad. Juan stood at the end of the aisle waiting for me, acting like a lovable boyfriend. Only he wasn't. He's shot me many times.

My father handed me off and shook Juan's hand. Juan grabbed my hand and we stood at the front.

I reflected back on my life. I'm only a child, but yet, here I am standing here to become an adult at the age of fourteen.

I looked at my parents. It feels like just yesterday I was sitting on my fathers lap watching sports with him. I wish I could still live my life, and not have to be married off.

I saw my cue. My brother and sister got up to leave, meaning our get away car was right outside.

"Juan, do you take Mariana to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

My breath hitched. What if this doesn't work? What if I have to stay here forever in misery.

"Mariana, do you take Juan to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

I looked down at my parents, "I don't." My father smiled at me, while my mother looked away in disapproval. I pushed Juan away from me, and ran down the aisle. I got in my get away car, and the car sped away.

I watched the place I grew up in disappear right before my eyes. The only place I knew more than anything, would now just be a memory.

The buildings vanished from my view, and I knew for certain, that this was the right choice.
