Lilly's POV
Harry was still trying to convince Hermione that Malfoy was up to something. Hermione was taking her prefect duties particularly seriously. Ron, on the other hand was taking it a bit slack. The power he has is getting a bit to his head, but then again, he's never had influence or power before, so it is natural that he doesn't understand it that much. Anyway, as we ate breakfast, Professor McGonagall consulted our schedule to our O.W.L. results to make sure everyone is adequate for their class. Hermione was cleared for Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Herbology, Arithmancy, Ancient Tuens, and Potions. She immediately departed after clearence. Neville was a bit anxious, he is allowed to continue with Herbology and Defense Against the Dark Arts, but not Transfiguration. Professor McGonagall peered at him over her spectacles asking, "Why do you want to continue with Transfiguration, anyway? I've never had the impression that you particularly enjoyed it."
Neville mumbled something about "my grandmother wants."
"Hmph, " snorted Professor McGonagall. "It's high time your grandmother learned to be proud of the grandson she's got, rather than the one she thinks she ought to have - particularly after what happened at the Ministry." Neville turned very pink, it was the first time Professor McGonagall gave him a compliment.
"I'm sorry, Longbottom, but I cannot let you into my N.E.W.T. class. I see you have an 'Exceeds Expectations' in Charms, however - why not try for a N.E.W.T. in Charms?"
"My grandmother thinks Charms is a soft option, " mumbled Neville.
"Take Charms, " said Professor McGonagall, "and I shall drop Augusta a line reminder her that just because she failed her Charms O.W.L., the subject is not necessarily worthless." Smiling slightly at the look of delight inredulity on Neville's face, she handed him his new schedule. I handed her my papers and she said, "Ah, no surprise here, Miss Black. You're clear on Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Arithmancy, Muggle Studies, Ancient Runes, Magical Theory, and Care of Magical Creatures. Everything is in order, but are you sure you want to take eleven N.E.W.T. classes?"
I smiled saying, "Yes ma'am, have to keep me somewhat busy."
She smiled and handed me back my schedule asking, "I assume you are doing Quidditch as well?" I nodded and she moved on to Parvati Patil.
Harry was cleared for all his classes and the boys had a free period while Hermione and I had Ancient Runes. Then, when we got to Defense Against the Dark Arts, we did nonverbal spells. I felt bad for Neville when I paired up with him... I kept on jinxing and hexing him, but I took it off before he fell over. I mostly Stunned and Petrified him. Everyone had a hard time with it. After that, Harry got a letter from Dumbledore and his lessons. We had a break and I finished my homework that was already assigned. After the break Hermione and I went to Arithmancy while the boys did Snape's homework. We had lunch and then a break after lunch. Then we all headed down for double Potions. Only about a dozen had an O.W.L. to continue.
We sat down and Slughorn asked us to identify the potions he had made. Hermione and I raised our hands on each time. He took turns calling on us. When Hermione got to the love potion she was saying what she smelled, freshly mowed grass and new parchment. She cut off on the third thing; I knew what the third thing she was going to say, she turned slightly pink. I smelt Neville's cologne, new books, and the open outdoors, probably from Quidditch.
After we finished Slughorn said to Harry, "Oho! 'One of my best friends is Muggle-Born, and she's one of the best in our year!' I'm assuming this is the very friend of whom you spoke, Harry?"
"Yes, sir, " said Harry.
"Well, well, take ten well-earned points for Gryffindor, Miss Granger. And ten points to you as well, Miss Black."
Malfoy looked rather as he had done the time Hermione had punched him in the face. Which was quite hilarious.
Ernie MacMillan, from D.A., pointed out the small vial that Slughorn hasn't told us about.
He said, "Yes. That. Well, that, one, ladies and gentlemen, is a most curious little potion called Felix Felicis. I take it, " He hummed. "that you know what Felix Felicis does, Miss Granger and Miss Black?" Hermione said, "It's liquid luck!"
I smiled adding, "It makes you lucky."
Everyone paid a bit more attention after that, especially Draco. Slughorn offered that as a prize if we could make the Draught of Living Death proficiently. I didn't even bother opening my book, I got the ingredients and started brewing. I remember seeing the book Harry got before, I memorized every page and the instructions with it.
Harry and I won and Slughorn said surprised, "I didn't expect two students to accomplish the task."
I smiled saying, "Go ahead and take it, Harry. It isn't quite fair that I've brewed this before, so go ahead, I don't need luck."
He took it and Harry was explaining the instructions he got to Hermione. Ginny overhead and got worried because Harry was taking instructions from a book. She was being extra careful about taking instructions from a book ever since our second year. Hermione and her were worried, but I said, "It's okay, really. I've read the book in particular before, nothing to worry about." They still weren't convinced, but it was understood.
I cuddled with Neville on the couch while he did homework. I was reading and he asked, "Don't you have homework, Lilly?"
I shook my head saying, "I have my homework done for this year and next. There is an nice advantage for being able to see the future." He shook his head in disbelief and I smiled pecking his lips.
