I woke up surprisingly early today, I even had time to have a shower this morning, normally I just have one in the evenings.

So today was the first day of lessons so we had to go and collect our time tables at breakfast, where I was up early I went down by myself and got handed my time table by McGonagall.

"Thank you." I say as I look at my time table.

So today is double defence against the dark arts with Hufflepuff, then potions with Ravenclaw them study hall, lunch then double care of magical creature with Slytherin not too bad I thought to myself.

As I was eating I see some of my friends join me for breakfast, "finally." I say to Jack, Melody, Alicia and Angelina.

"Why are you here so early?" Angelina asks.

"Well I woke up early then had a shower and thought I would grab my time table and eat, where are the others?" I ask them.

"They are coming just a bit slow this morning." Jack says.

"Doesn't surprise me with them lot, who am I with for care of magical creatures?" I ask them.

"Alicia and myself are doing it, I'm not sure about the others." Melody says.

"I think we all are." Jack said.

"Well that will be fun and we can see how Hagrid will do at the job." I say.

I drink some pumpkin juice reading the rest of my time table it was quite full but it wasn't too bad. Then in the corner of my eye I see two red heads and Lee all walking to the table and Fred comes and sits next to me.

"Morning." I say to them and they all looked half asleep.

"Morning." They murmured.

They started eating as McGonagall handed them their time tables we shared most of the same classes but some of them done extra.

We all finished eating and went to get our stuff for defence against the dark arts and walked to the classroom.

Walking down the corridor I see my little sister, I kind of forgot that her and my older brother came here oops. In all honesty I barely speak to them as they are in Slytherin and my parents have brainwashed them with all their pure blood values.

I smile at my little sister who is in the sane year group as Harry, Ron and Hermione and surprisingly she gives me a small smile back. We walk into the classroom and decide where to sit.

We sit on the second row in pairs normally it would be Angelina and Alicia, Melody and myself, Fred and George and them Hack and Lee but this year it had changed.

Jack and Melody sat together, then the normal pairing of Alicia and Angelina I thought I would end up with Lee but no Fred sat next to me which was a pleasant surprise.

"What's wrong with George?" I ask him.

"Ohh, nothing I just thought I would come and sit with you" he said with a small smile on his face.

"Since when do you sit with me, it's always you and George" I say to him.

"I just wanted to sit with you okay, Avery?"

"That's fine." I smile at him.

We heard the door open and see Professor Lupin walk in, he seemed like he was nice and wouldn't be full of himself like Lockheart was.

"When I call your name please answer" he said.

"Y/n Avery"

"Here" I replied.

"Jack Belford"

"Here" Jack replied

"Cedric Diggory"

"Here" he replied

Lupin went through the register ending on the Weasley twins, to be honest being in a class with the Hufflepuffs was quite nice as we all got on quite well so defence against the dark arts seemed like it would go well this year.

We got our parchment, books, quills and wands out for the lesson and took some notes down for what professor Lupin was asking and we all answered questions and then some pair work.

Fred and I worked together and I was somehow kicking his but in defensive spells.

"How do you keep winning Avery?" He asked me.

"I don't know, are you going easy on me?" I asked him.

"No why would I do that?"

"Because you seem like you aren't trying properly" as I said that we started again and he improved this time.

It then came to the end of the lesson and we had an essay to write which I'm going to do in the study hall later so I can spend my free time doing more exciting things.

We all walk to potions which we had with Ravenclaw which wasn't too bad as Snape clearly favoured Slytherin so whenever we shared potions with them we always ended up loosing points.

We walk in and Fred sits next to me again which means Snape won't end up separating them again to sit next to someone sensible which apparently is me most of the time.

"As you all know this is the year you take your OWLs some of you will do well and others will not, to wish to continue taking potions next year you will need to achieve an O in your OWLs." He said.

"I expect some of you to achieve it and others not so much." As he went on I was thinking to myself and about how much I needed to get this O.

"So today we are going to be learning about how to make Draught of peace which will then be made in Thursdays lesson can anyone tell me the brewing time for Draught of peace?" He asked and one of the Ravenclaw students raised their hand.

"Yes." He said

"90 minutes." The student replied.

"Well done" he said, "can anyone tell me the side effects?" I raise my hand and he lets me answer.

"It commonly relieves anxiety however, overdoing the ingredients may result in a long or irreversible sleep." I say answering his question.

"Correct Miss Avery, 5 points to Gryffindor." He said.

I think Snape goes easier on me than other Gryffindors as he is friends with my family and I know a lot about potions.

He asks more students questions and some get them right and some don't.

"I want an essay on the method,ingredients, effects and how the potion should turn out once brewed correctly on my desk on Thursdays double lesson." He says and then he dismisses the class and we all walk to the study hall.

I started on my potions essay as Snape is quite hard on us if we don't have them done correctly and if the aren't handed in on time, I look over and see Fred is struggling a bit so I help him.

"Thank you Avery" he said.

"You are very much welcome Freddie" I say replying to him.

"How are you do good at potions though?" He asked me.

"I have no idea Fred." I say to him carrying on writing my own essay and put my stuff away ready for lunch.

"I can't believe our OWLs are this year." Angelina said.

"Neither can I" we all reply as we are all eating.

"How come Snape is so chill with you compared to all of us?" Melody asks.

"I think it's mainly to do with the fact he is friends with my parents and knows what they are like." I say to them all as they look at me.

"I think he is also happy that Fred and George aren't sitting together anymore." Alicia said.

"Because all they end up doing is making everything wrong." Jack said and we all start laughing even the twins.

We all carry on talking about our OWLs and we are all predicted good grades I'm mostly Os and a few Es which would still look good especially for classes I will choose next year.

We all finishing eating and make our way to care of magical creatures.

——— time skip to the evening ———

We are all sitting in the common room talking and I'm sitting next to Fred on a two sitter sofa resting my head on his shoulder when Ginny walks in.

"Don't you two look cute?" She says and everyone agrees with her.

"Yes we look very adorable." I say back jokingly.

"Told you they would make a good couple." Lee says.

"We aren't a couple." We say in unison and I can feel my cheeks starting to blush.

"Look you are both blushing can't you admit to each other you that you like the other one please?" Ginny said, damn this girl did not need to call us out like that.

"We don't like each other Ginny we are just best friends." Fred said.

Did he mean that though I felt so confused because he is just my best friend but I'm starting to catch feelings from him. "Yeah just best friends." I say in a disappointed tone.

"Anyway I'm off to bed now see you all in the morning." I dash up I'm the stairs and feel tears in my eyes, why am I upset he is just my best friend right?

I get changed then hear the door open it's Angelina, Alicia and Melody.

"Y/n are you okay?" Alicia asked.

"I'm fine" I said in a tone that meant I clearly wasn't.

"Seriously y/n what's up?" Melody asks.

I sit down in my bed, "you know that I like Fred and yes we are best friends but hun saying it like that upset me and I don't know why? Does it mean I want to be more than friends?" I ask them.

They all sit down either side of me and Angelina says, "I think that means you do, and maybe you need to tell him soon."

How am I going to tell my best friend of the last 5 years that I like him more than friends?
