"La la la"
You were busy again at the cat cafe waiting for customers to arrive while tapping your nails against the register and looking out to see if anyone will come into the cafe. "Ugh, I can't believe that we still don't have a lot of customers coming in." While walking away and groaning out in frustration at the state of this place with cobwebs you decided to clean the cafe while waiting.
Today was your first day opening alone since you had told Howell to go rest while you managed the cafe for the day since usually he is always there managing and now that you were assistant manager why not give him the day off? He deserves it for working so hard and letting you have off days most of the time.
It was lonely though since it was just you and the cats meowing being heard around the building. All of a sudden everyone was too busy today to come into the cafe to help you so you were stuck alone for the day. Although even there was no one else you had put your playlist on in the speakers of the cafe that dullness around you never seemed to waver. After you finished cleaning and singing your heart out in a mini-concert in front of all the cats you sat down and banged your head against one of the tables in the cafe.
"What should I do? There's literally no one coming in and it's super lonely..."
You sighed looking around at the cats that were circling around you till you heard feverish meowing coming from the pregnant cat. You glanced over at her noticing her hopping inside of her little basket that you and Howell had put out for her to rest in since she couldn't move around as much as before due to being pregnant.
"Oh no"
The cat began to meow wildly as you realized something was coming out. "Oh no...OH NO!!!" You were freaking out since you had never delivered kittens before and you weren't sure what to do. "WHO DO I CALL?? UMM LET ME CALL HOWELL" you had decided to call the beautiful man hoping he would answer but your hopes were crushed as you were sent straight to voicemail. You decided to leave a message.
"HEY HOWELL IT'S Y/N! UMM THE CAT IS HAVING HER BABIES AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!! call me back byeeee"
It was then you started to worry about who to call in this situation to ask for their assistance, but not wanting to bother people with your problems you decided you should just do this yourself. As you were in the middle of thinking a loud MEOW rung through the cafe and you decided it was time for you to stop being a scaredy cat and to help this new mom in need.
You quickly grabbed a pair of clean gloves and some wet/dry towels and started to help the poor thing deliver her babies. One by one each baby was coming out as you placed them beside her for her to clean them. "Girl, are you almost done?" She meowed back with what you assume was sass and the last kitten had finally come out which was scraggly looking but you just sat him with the rest of the babies. You began to clean up the area after the birth and came back to look down and the new kittens and their mom.
"You guys are so cute!"
Finally, you heard the cafe door open and Howell rushed inside next to you spinning you around from looking at the cats and grabbing your shoulders leaning in close to your face. "Okay Y/N where are the babies? Were you able to deliver them? Please tell me they are safe-" You smiled happily at him before nudging your head below to the basket on the ground next to the two of you.
"Take a look for yourself"
He let go of you and looked down at the cat and kittens below in the basket. "They are the cutest things I have ever seen" The both of you were busy fawning over the kittens till he realized he is supposed to be off "Alright since everything here is going perfectly fine I will be on my way, let me know if you need anything." You give him a thumbs up "Of course! See you later Howell!" The both of you bid farewell to each other. You see from the window the cat cafe car is now gone and you walk back behind the register deciding to leave the new family alone for a while.
Your knee bangs against the cabinet that had opened up below. 'OUCH WHAT THE FU-" you stop yourself from cursing out the cabinet door and decide to peek inside wondering why the door decided to open suddenly just as you opened it you see a flurry of papers fly out and look inside to see another stack. You gaze at a piece of paper deciding to pick it up and look down at it.
'BILL OVERDUE'
It was written all over in bright red across the paper which made you frown "Oh Howell.." Shaking your head as you bent down to fix the stack of papers and place them neater inside the cabinet and shut it afterward. A wave of sadness had overcome your form as you stood up again wondering what was going to happen to the cafe and wondering why Howell never said anything to you about the bills. You could have helped out and got a second job or tried to cook food better. Now you were scared this job had been the first and your main income right now.
Although of course, you wouldn't be flat-out broke since you had your saving but you didn't want to have to break that open just to barely be getting by. Also what about the Wizard siblings of course most of them had their own stuff to do but this place was just another space for them. What about the cats? What about Howell? He literally loves this place it's his cafe! Oh, how you wish he would have told you something! You were thinking about what to do then realized he most likely didn't want to tell you afraid that you would be worried about and you are right now. After deciding just to pretend like you never saw it you look at the clock and see that it's closing time already. You started to fix up last-minute stuff for the cats like food and fresh water.
While locking up some stuff you hear a jingling bell signaling someone had come in. You quickly hurry on over to the register "Welcome to the Cat Cafe! We are closing up already, but you can come back tomorrow at 9 am when we open!" Sadly as much as the cafe needed the money for bills it was late already to be cooking full meals just by yourself. The person seems slightly upset "Well alright, I just wanted to stop by and pick up some desserts to go since every else has already closed up an hour ago... thank you anyways" She began to walk out dejected which made you feel bad. "Wait, please! What would you like? I can grab some from the kitchen I just put them away" Her eyes lit up "Thank you so much! Can I please get three sugar cookies, a slice of cheesecake, and a slice of red velvet?" You smiled at her before walking off to the kitchen "Coming right up!" She sits at one of the tables waiting for you.
"I'm sorry this is so unexpected I have been craving sweet things lately. I am home alone right now since my husband and my son are out on a small vacation... I wasn't able to go due to working sadly but he calls me every day to tell me what they did and what they ate. They will be back-"
The lady continued to talk about her family and how much she missed them when you finished packing up her desserts you came out of the kitchen and handed her a cute cat bag that the desserts were in. "Aw, they will be back before you know it!" You entered the desserts in the register and added the total. "Alright, the total comes out to 10.95!" She opens up her purse and pulls out a $50 dollar bill.
"Here you go hon keep the change!"
She places it down on the counter since you were too shocked to move till you realize what she had done. "Oh, this so much! Here let me get your change-" she waved her hand back and forth while laughing "It's quite alright! I'm just thankful that you kept the cafe open for me to pick up some desserts!' You smiled at her thanking her as she had begun to chat with you again about her family. You wanted to go home already but she was lonely right now so you decided to lend her an ear "What're your husband's and baby's names?" You were curious she already told you her name and she knew your name already due to your name tag.
"My husband's name is Patrick and my baby's name is-"
She looked at the clock and gasped "Oh dear I'm so sorry it's late! I will be taking my leave now thank you for the desserts! I will stop by here again soon with my family! Bye, hon!" She quickly left seeing her blonde hair swish out the front door, while you waved her bye with a smile on your face.
Finally, you were able to close up the cafe and wished all the cats goodnight as you locked the front door and headed out down the path back home.
You were thinking to yourself while walking. 'Hopefully, Crispin is done with my scooter already...' you continued on your merry way finally arriving home and getting ready for bed till you remembered something.
"CRISPIN'S COOKIES!"
You fall flat onto your bed faced down screaming into the mattress. Hoping he won't hold your scooter hostage till you give him the cookies he requested. "Ugh, I have to make them at the cafe tomorrow" You turned your head to the side and yawned finally falling asleep after the eventful day at the cafe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Howell had arrived at the cafe early in the morning to get some stuff ready and to open up. You weren't going to be there till about thirty minutes later so he was stuck alone for a while waiting for you and Wesley to come in or anyone else he plans on calling to come over to the cafe. As he goes over to the register he spots a $50 dollar bill with a sticky note on it.
'Hey, Howell! I know it's really hard right now with the Cafe and Deckard being gone... don't be afraid to ask me for help with ANYTHING! - Y/N'
You even put a little drawing of a teddy bear on the side with a little bow tie. He picked up the sticky note looking at your handwriting and the drawing, a soft smile appeared on his face.
"Oh Y/N..."
