cassie barely tilted her head to the side and moved the pen across the paper. she was sitting alone in the empty library, since her classmate left a few minutes earlier.
even the librarian had smiled at her and went out for a while, knowing she could trust cassie. well, cassie thought she was alone.
after finishing the current drawing and turning the page carefully, a sudden noise sounded from a room behind her. she frowned abruptly and glanced behind her, gaping when a girl lowly moaned.
she contemplated on leaving, but stayed anyway. she crossed one leg over the other one and glanced up when the door opened.
matt was a bit surprised when the place was completely empty. he gazed around the tables and stopped when he saw cassie sitting there. she cleared her throat and sent him a soft smile, silently allowing him to join her.
"as much as i like the company, i don't think you want to be here." cassie said quietly and drew again.
"how come?" he asked and intertwined his hands together against the table.
"because there's–" she stopped herself when the girl moaned once again, and awkwardly glanced at matt. "that."
"oh." he mumbled and looked down.
"yeah." she whispered and fixed her eyes on the paper in front of her. he opened the book he brought with the intention to study a bit, but the couple behind them didn't get much quieter.
"you study art, right?" he asked and peered up at her.
"mhm." she mumbled and threw an awkward glance at him. "god, who has sex in a library?"
matt shrugged while leaning back in his chair and then glanced up at her. cassie noticed it, so she looked up from her sketchbook and blinked at him.
"you know, maybe it's nice?" he suggested, earning a disgusted glare from her.
"you're kidding, right? it must be uncomfortable as hell, and why would they want anyone else to hear?"
"maybe they think they're alone?" he laughed, which only cracked a laughter from her too.
"jesus christ, i can't– wow. maybe we should scream or something, so they'll know there's people here!" she raised her voice by the end, only for him to kick her leg under the table.
the sounds stopped for a brief moment, and then continued like nothing happened. cassie rolled her eyes and sunk down in her chair, and matt tried to focus on studying again.
"hey, cass, what're you drawing?" he questioned, looking up with glistening eyes. she nervously rolled the pen and opened her mouth to talk, but ended up uhming for a few seconds.
"nothing, really." she mumbled and pursed her lips together.
"may i see?" he requested, hopefully gazing at her.
"no..." she said, shaking her head slowly. "i don't really show my work to people. only when i need to in class."
"uh huh." he smirked and then frowned with his lips in defeat. "okay. hopefully i'll see one day."
"yeah, maybe." she laughed half-heartedly and shut the book. "how's the studying working?"
"awful." he said bluntly and looked down at the book.
cassie chuckled before placing herself beside him instead. she rested one elbow against the table and her cheek against her fist, reading what it was about.
"i didn't know you study journalism." she smiled and flipped her hair over her shoulder, away from him and the book.
"just a course i take because i couldn't think of any other i wanted." he said quietly and shrugged. "but it's interesting and kind of fun."
"cute. okay, what's the assignment about?" she asked, and from there, they studied together.
of course, they would share many awkward glances considering the two teens were still in the room, but after half an hour or so they stopped.
cassie stared intently at the door until it finally opened. matt nudged her thigh with his own and pressed his lips together. yes, it might be weird to stare, but what else would they do?
a black haired girl walked out first, slowing down when she noticed the other two — and not only two students, but the cheerleader and football captain.
"oh my god..." she whispered before rushing out of there.
cassie giggled with her hand against her mouth and shook her head. a few seconds later, the guy walked out, looking utterly satisfied. he didn't even acknowledge them like the girl did.
"speaking of absolutely nothing, i saw that air spin stunt you did during practice." matt smiled, not at all knowing what it was called.
"you mean the basket toss?" cassie grinned and rested the bottom of her hand against her cheek.
"yeah... that. it was cool."
"thanks." she smiled and nodded to his book. "you're not finished yet."
"but this is boring." he whined and folded his arms together above the table.
"if you finish it, we can take a walk later. or play some soccer, or video games, or whatever. you choose, just finish it." she offered, tapping the table with her fingernails.
"really?" he laughed and raised one eyebrow suspiciously.
"yes, really, i promise." she rolled her eyes and gazed at him.
"how can i trust that, considering you don't want to spend time with me?" he partly joked. "maybe we could pinky swear it."
"i'm not gonna pinky swear." she shook her head and though of something else.
"then what–"
"but i can do this." she grinned before lightly grabbing his face and pressing a kiss on his nose. "i promise we'll do something if you finish this nicely. you know what to do, so just come knocking at my door when you're done."
cassie stood up and seized her sketchbook, leaving him in shock again. she walked back to her dorm and hid the book in her drawer, pursing her lips after sighing
matt shook his head before focusing on his work, and trying to get it done as thoroughly as he could. not that he didn't care about his studies before, but she obviously gave him some motivation.
she smiled to herself and sighed just as alex came out of the shower. she smiled at her roommate and sat down on the bed, pulling up her phone.
"where have you been?" alex asked and towel dried her hair briefly.
"the library." cassie answered and snorted without thinking. "god, wanna' know what happened?"
"obviously since you laughed." alex smirked and put some clothes on the bed to change to.
"two people had sex in the storage room."
alex turned to look at her in disbelief, and then laughed while sitting down. cassie shook her head and shuddered due to the thought.
"really? wow. cozy." alex snickered and dressed on her comfortable clothes.
"can i ask you something really weird and maybe awkward?" cassie mumbled and pulled her legs up against her chest.
"of course." alex shrugged and ruffled her damp hair.
"you have to swear to not tell anyone that i've asked you this. and don't start talking gibberish after, okay?"
"you're starting to worry me, but yeah, i promise." she frowned and waited for the question.
"is, uhm, matt... is he a virgin? i know it's such a weird question to ask you of all people, but i can't ask him personal questions until the game's over, and he'd be so satisfied if i actually asked him that, but i just want to know."
alex raised her eyebrows in surprise and seemed to think a bit. cassie waited patiently and bit on her bottom lip, resting her chin against her kneecaps.
"it is a strange question, but... in all honesty, i'm not a hundred percent sure, but i think so." she answered slowly. "why are you asking me that?"
"just wondering. i mean, he doesn't seem like the type to be one." cassie shrugged and licked her lips.
"yeah, i know. has he told you about his ex...? i don't dare to say too much in case he doesn't want me to, you know."
"the one who had to move." she smiled sadly, and alex nodded.
"yeah, her. so she was his first and only proper girlfriend, and i don't think they ever got to that point. not that he'd tell me if they did, but that's what i think. and when she moved, he started focusing more on football and his studies, so i don't believe he's bothered about that yet. but you could ask mason maybe? he's his best friend, so he should know."
"i can't ask him!" cassie laughed and shook her head. "that'll give him the wrong idea. if i ask if matt's a virgin, he's gonna' think i want to have sex with him. which i don't."
"right." alex said skeptically and pulled her hair up in a ponytail. "then i don't know. you'll just have to ask matt youself when you get closer."
"how are you so sure we're actually gonna' develope a relationship, whether it's friendly or romantic?" cassie asked and followed her movements with her eyes.
"please, i've been rooting for you for like, two years now."
"exactly. it's been two years." she smirked and stood up from the bed.
"okay, you know what? i'm gonna' stop. i hate being in the middle because you're my best friend, and he's my brother, which is frustrating. so from now on, i don't care." alex decided and raised her hands beside her head.
"good luck with that." cassie laughed and gave her a short nod.
"my turn to ask something." alex stated after a few seconds of silence and scratched her arm. "why were you and tyler kissing?"
"oh. well, he thought you were mad at me when you walked away, so i just very vaguely mentioned matt. he asked if i wanted to make him jealous and kissed me before i had the time to really respond. i apologized to matt actually."
"because it was just so weird to see that, even though you two are really close." alex snorted and slightly raised her eyebrows.
"yeah, i slapped him. he was probably a bit drunk too." cassie scrunched up her nose and opened the drawer in the desk.
"anyway, i'm heading down to the café to get something to eat. do you want anything?" alex asked and put her shoes on.
"an apple would be amazing." cassie smiled and turned her head to look at her.
"coming right up." alex smiled back before leaving the room.
when the door closed, cassie pursed her lips and opened two drawers. in one of them, she kept her sketchbook and different pens.
in the other one, she kept several maps with all her work — the sort of work alex was okay to look at without even asking.
cassie carefully ripped out a few pages from the sketchbook and put them in one of the okay maps. she then opened another drawer and took out the opposite map.
she repeated the same action and put the drawings on the desk first, then the sketchbook in the drawer. just as she was about to organize everything, someone knocked on the door and then opened it.
"cass? hey, i finished my assignment." matt smiled proudly and frowned when she quickly scrambled all the papers together and put them in the map, and then the drawer.
"hey, wow, that's great." she grinned and shut the drawer with a sigh.
"yeah, what are you doing?" he laughed and doubtfully took a step closer to her.
"just– nothing." she waved it off and pushed some hair behind her ear. "let me read."
"here." he smiled and handed her his work.
cassie grabbed it with a weak smile and laid down on her bed, on her stomach with her elbows propping herself up. matt mirrored her movement and nervously watched as she started reading.
she turned the page and read pretty quickly, but firmly. it was really good this far, although she can't really put a grade since she doesn't study this subject.
he rested his cheek against his palm like she had done in the library and gazed at her with a weak smile. she would not so discreetly glance at him through the corner of her eye sometimes, only to see him smile even wider each time.
"i like this." cassie uttered after a moment and looked at him.
"are you saying that to make me feel good or are you being honest?" he raised his eyebrows, earning an arm nudge from her.
"i'm always honest, matthew. and i really like it." she laughed and put the papers aside carefully. "so, what are we doing?"
"well, we could always make out." he joked with a shrug.
"hey! be serious, would you?" she giggled and lightly pushed him.
"i am serious! i'd love to make out with you." he smirked and licked his lips quickly. "but what if you're a horrible kisser? or have the worst breath? or–"
"matt!" she laughed and pushed him again. "what if you're the horrible kisser, huh? i can totally imagine too much tongue with you." she smirked and raised her eyebrows briefly. "or maybe–"
but before she could even continue, matt wrapped an arm around her and spun them around to shut her up. cassie laughed loudly and looked at him.
alex whistled while opening the door and dropped her jaw a bit when seeing them. matt looked behind his shoulder and quickly rolled off of her, sheepishly smiling at his lap.
"i was gone for like, five minutes." alex deadpanned and gazed at them.
"i just helped him with his assignment before, so i was reading it." cassie mumbled and sat up properly.
"what, with him on top of you? nice way to read." alex shook her head and tossed cassie the apple.
"i think i'm gonna sneak my way out of this." matt laughed and grabbed his stuff. "thanks for helping me." he said quietly to cassie before leaving the room.
"and you were going to stop caring, remember?" cassie remarked when alex opened her mouth to say something.
"shit." alex muttered and took a bite from her candy bar.
"shit." cassie mimicked her with a smirk and started eating from her apple.
"you're such a nice person." alex said sarcastically and rolled her eyes.
"i know, that's why everyone loves me." cassie partly joked while flipping her hair.
"anyway..." alex laughed and dug through her backpack. "want to play some video games? i stole matt's grand theft auto and also his raw wrestling game."
"definitely up for some wrestling." cassie grinned and sat down on the bed. "dibbs on john cena."
