2000 years ago the nightwings preformed what they called the hybrid experiment. They created nightwing hybrids with all the tribes to test what powers could be passed down and what couldn't. This experiment failed with most of the hybrids being killed. The last to die was the mud hybrid, stonekiller. His best friend, a hivewing hybrid named Starstinger, who was not originally apart of the experiment, stopped stonekillers from killing off all the mudwings.
