A short story about the FBI…
An elderly black man as part of group work drew a cartoon I took home with me as an art once. I was working field placement in a drug clinic for my graduate school program in social work and doing art and music sessions with them. He spoke sometimes of voodoo from the Caribbean and drew a tribal faced, stick human with a falice and called it "Human Cartoon". I hung it on my fridge before that apartment was stolen with his cartoon still on the fridge. The old college roommate who needed a spare bedroom in NYC at 30 one night came home from her job in the bar and sounded like she was singing to a voodoo woman. I thought she could be real or it could be a computer face chat or recording. She never mentioned it. She instead put a blood cloth in the sink which could mean she stabbed someone or it could mean she had her period I thought. Months later she stole my clothing with a fat man and no explanation. He said my stuff was now hers. When the police for the millionth time wouldn't investigate my case of an ex who worked for the government and bank and belongings stolen with earlier computer hack reported, I started stealing groceries. Each visit to the store I played a 1970s car tune. Elton John, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, Boston, The Eagles, America, Simon and Garfunkel, Kiss, Aerosmith, Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, ELO, Joe Cocker, Peter Paul and Mary, etc. I wondered about Paul Simon singing America and Mary singing about flowers. I wondered about international preschool and singing If I Had a Hammer and Puff the Magic Dragon in the early 1980s. On a trip to a Starbucks during this period with starbucks coffee in hand, I made a cartoon on my cell phone of street pedestrians walking on a platform from an art app and posted it online. I thought half the country had probably done one by now and eventually I remembered that old black man and his cartoon from the drug clinic nearly a decade earlier.…
