Kennedy Moore. The necklace. The boy with... eclipse eyes. Yes, 'eclipse' seemed like the best description for it... His eyes, the glowing flares around the bottomless pit of black in the center, really had a hypnotic effect on you but at the same time looking into those eyes, I could feel a strong wave of trepidation and endless darkness. Just thinking about it sent a shiver down my spine. A strange thought occurred to me, I had an inkling that the boy with the eclipse eyes had something to do with the death of Kennedy Moore.

The necklace was the connection here...

I doodled the picture of the necklace on my notebook, while Mr Langley, our history teacher, was enthusiastically telling the story of some old folklore that planted roots within this town, Fairdale. The folklore started some kind of cult here many centuries ago. They worshipped Luzcana, the main character of the lore. But the once harmonious community split into two: Day and Night. And what happened next was well - history - mainly because I started dozing off. Not a good thing because finals were coming up.

Then Mr Langley asked the question: So if you know the story to both sides who would you choose to fight with: Day or Night? There was just plain silence that followed the question, which brought my head up from my notebook. Atlas' hand didn't shoot up this time, as it usually did when it's question time. Sitting in the back row, I could see Mr Langley looking at him expectantly, but eventually our teacher turned away, slightly disappointed.

Edwin, Jordyn's boyfriend and captain of the exclusive boys' club, raised his hand. Mr Langley didn't seem too happy about it at all. "Yes, Mister Cole?"

"I'd totally bang Luzcana all day and night."

There was a loud snap where the boys' club were sitting. I saw a glimpse of black splattering on the side of his face and neck. "Dude, you okay?" One of the boys asked. I assumed it was Zayn Romero, because he was the only one with that low throaty voice. "You just broke a pen, man."

"Yo Atlas, what the fuck man you got that shit on my uniform." No question, that was Florence Finnigan. He had this high pitched whiny voice that seemed to go up a few pitches high when he's trying to make a point, like he was doing now. "Fuck! Mum's gonna roast me so bad!"

"Alright that's enough, detention - all of you!"

The boys groaned in unison and tried to get out of it by coming up with some lame excuses, all except for Atlas. He remained quiet and still as ever. It was strange and unnerving to see him like that. This had to be the first time, he acted out of character and I had no idea what could have caused the change, but it must've been something serious.

History class ended, and recess came. My good friends, Winona and Quinton, were already at the cafeteria. Winona and Quinton had been with me since primary school and they lived a couple of blocks away from me. After school, we would usually go bike-riding around the neighbourhood. We still do it, it was like our tradition. But lately we hadn't gotten up to it, because the Kennedy Moore's murder case.

"What's up?" Winona asked casually, as I sat down to join them.

"Nothing particularly interesting, except the fact that Edwin and the boys got themselves in detention again and Mister Perfect, snapped a pen in two in history class."

"Oh yeah we all heard," Quinton asked, an eyebrow shot up. "The shit here spreads around like wildfire. No one's secret is ever safe." He leaned in close to me and looked at me seriously. "So whatever you do, don't ever keep any secrets, Ray."

"Shut up, Quin," Winona waved a hand in his face to shush him up. "We want to hear about Atlas, not you."

I rolled my eyes. Winona was obviously interested in Atlas but she kept denying it. "Well that's the thing, I don't know what could have riled the guy up. Surely not because of the BS that Eddie said."

"What did Eddie say?" Winona asked.

"That he would bang Luzcana all day and night..." I repeated from memory, and then gave a shrug of my shoulders.

Winona facepalmed herself. "Typical Eddie, of course he would say shit like that ugh."

"Poor Nona, looks like you got competition with Lucy Girl," Quinton joked. Winona elbowed him playfully and we all cracked up laughing.

"It's Lutz-sarn-na, not Lucy by the way," I piped in between laughs.

My friends fell silent for a moment. Quinton raised a brow. "You're gonna ace that history test, baby!"

Laughter erupted in our circle once again. Winona and Quinton... I love these two so much. I don't think I can live without them.
