welcome!
i see you've finally opened my book.

now as to who i am,
that is unimportant
for this book is not about me
but about my story.
all for you to observe
and annotate
and highlight
to your wishes.

perhaps you'll stay
you'll turn my pages
deep in the darkness of night
maybe you'll be hiding
under your covers
with a flashlight
eyes skimming over my words
longing for the next ones

i can only hope you'll stay, though.
i can only hope my words
are powerful enough
to draw you in
hook you to the pages
as if you were a fish in a lake
and my phrases are lines reeling you in
but will you stay?

it is possible
that you will not enjoy this story
and that you will set it down
silencing me abruptly
until one day
another will pick me up
and relish in my sentences
though it will not be you.

and you are all i ask for.

it is true
i do not know who you are either
but alas that will not stop me
because you are here now
and i can learn you
through pages
our similarities and differences
and in turn you will learn me.

and so i hope
you take my hand
or my pages, for that matter
and travel beside me
on this odyssey i've written
and lived
and make the most of what's to come
